Emerald Coast golf runs about an hour along US 98, from the city courses in Fort Walton Beach through Destin and Sandestin to the private Watersound Club courses at the east end of 30A, with Niceville's courses across Choctawhatchee Bay. The middle, Destin and Sandestin, holds most of the courses a visitor can book.

This guide takes the coast one area at a time, so you can see what each part offers before you choose where to stay. Fees were seen in 2026 and rates change.

Fort Walton Beach, Shalimar and Hurlburt Field

The west end is the value end. The city-owned Fort Walton Beach Golf Club has two 18s from one clubhouse: the Pines, with new TifEagle greens from a 2025 renovation, and the shorter, oak-lined Oaks. Both use dynamic pricing; August 2026 deals on the Pines ran $36.99-$42.28 with cart. A lighted TrackMan range opened in September 2025.

Shalimar Pointe reopened in June 2023 with new TifEagle greens after a $1.7 million renovation and has hosted U.S. Open qualifiers. Gator Lakes on Hurlburt Field is open to civilians after a one-time background check at the Visitor Control Center, which gives a pass valid six months.

Base on Okaloosa Island, where the Holiday Inn Resort Fort Walton Beach and the Four Points by Sheraton sit on the beach about 16 minutes from the city courses. Our Fort Walton Beach golf guide has the detail, and the Shalimar Pointe course guide has its card.

Destin

Four full-size courses sit within 15 minutes of Destin Harbor, all close to the bay:

  • Indian Bayou, 9 minutes: a forgiving Earl Stone 18 with quick pace; afternoon deals from $74.99 in late October 2026.
  • Kelly Plantation, 13 minutes: the best public course in town, renovated in 2024.
  • Regatta Bay, 13 minutes: the hardest, at slope 147 from the Black tees.
  • Emerald Bay, 14 minutes: a 1991 Bob Cupp course with water on 12 holes; check recent reviews on conditions.

The Sandpiper Cove nine-hole par 3 is only for guests of its condo resort. Read the Kelly Plantation course guide for the best of the four.

Miramar Beach and Sandestin

Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort is the hub of Emerald Coast golf, with four courses and a free tram between the beaches, Baytowne Wharf and the clubs.

Course Public rate (2026) Resort guest Back tees
The Raven$159 (Mar-Nov 1)$1306,931 (73.8/137)
The Links$119 (most of the year)$956,710 (72.2/135)
Baytowne$119 spring, $99 otherwise$95 / $756,804 (73.2/138)
Burnt Pinenot open to the public$179 in season6,996 (74.5/147)

Burnt Pine is the best course at Sandestin and among the best on the coast, but only members and registered resort guests can play, after 1 PM. Seascape in Miramar Beach is now a nine-hole course with cheap rates and poor recent reviews. See the Sandestin golf guide for all four.

Niceville and Freeport, north of the bay

The Mid-Bay Bridge (toll) brings Bluewater Bay within about 23 minutes of Destin Harbor. It is a 1981 Fazio and Jerry Pate layout, but GolfPass reviewers rate it 2.7 out of 5 and October 2026 reviews reported bare fairways, so treat it as a budget round.

Rocky Bayou, east of Niceville, is the better-kept course on this side, at $109 with cart and a bucket of balls, with ten tee sets. Windswept Dunes in Freeport is a long public dune course, 7,752 yards from the back, about 59 minutes from Destin Harbor.

The weather is different up here. NOAA normals show Niceville about 6-7F colder than the beach on winter nights (January lows around 38F) and much wetter in summer. The Eglin AFB course in Niceville closed on December 1, 2025. The Hampton Inn Niceville is the quiet base. Our Niceville golf guide covers the area.

Santa Rosa Beach, 30A and Watersound

Scenic 30A has the most expensive golf and the least public golf on the coast.

Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Destin on October 9, 2026. Camp Creek was front nine only from October 17, and Shark's Tooth was closed until further notice in late October. St. Joe said The Third and Origins reopened first. Guests of WaterColor Inn have historically played Shark's Tooth and Camp Creek, but no current page confirms it, and The Pearl in Rosemary Beach now points guests only to Origins. Our 30A golf guide has more.

Beyond the edges

Bay Point Nicklaus, Legacy Golf Club and Signal Hill in Panama City Beach are 70 to 85 minutes from Destin Harbor, and Blackwater Golf Club in Crestview is 53 minutes north. Panama City Beach suits a day out from the east end of 30A more than from Destin. Further west along the Gulf, Alabama's courses are on our Gulf Shores golf map and Mississippi's on the Biloxi golf map.

Picking your end of the coast

  • Most golf, least driving: Destin or Sandestin.
  • Cheapest golf: Fort Walton Beach and Okaloosa Island.
  • Private-course splurge: a night or two at Camp Creek Inn or Watersound Inn.

Questions golfers ask

Where is the Emerald Coast?

It is the stretch of the Florida Panhandle Gulf coast from Fort Walton Beach and Okaloosa Island through Destin, Miramar Beach and Sandestin to Scenic 30A and Watersound, with Niceville across Choctawhatchee Bay. It is all on Central Time.

Which part of the Emerald Coast has the best golf?

Destin and Sandestin. Destin has Kelly Plantation, Regatta Bay, Indian Bayou and Emerald Bay within about 15 minutes of the harbor, and Sandestin has four courses including Burnt Pine. The east end of 30A has three strong private courses, but you need an inn stay to play them.

Is there public golf on 30A?

Very little. Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club has been private since February 2022, and Camp Creek, Shark's Tooth and The Third are for Watersound Club members and guests of Camp Creek Inn and Watersound Inn. The only public course at the 30A end is Origins, a short course with six or ten holes.

Where is the cheapest Emerald Coast golf?

Fort Walton Beach and Niceville. Shalimar Pointe deals ran $33.99 to $50.99 in October 2026, Bluewater Bay $38.99 to $57.99 in late October, and the Fort Walton Beach city courses showed $36.99 to $42.28 deals in August 2026. Bluewater Bay's recent reviews describe poor conditions.

Is it colder for golf north of the bay?

Yes, at night. NOAA normals for Niceville show January lows around 38F against about 45F at the Destin airport, with frost delays possible on winter mornings. Daytime highs are similar. Niceville is also wetter, at about 73 inches a year against about 55.

How long is the drive from Fort Walton Beach to 30A golf?
