The Watersound Club courses: stay to play

St. Joe's Watersound Club owns three private championship courses at the east end of 30A. Who can play: Lifestyle Members (golf is not in the Beach & Sport tier), members' accompanied guests, and overnight guests of Camp Creek Inn and Watersound Inn. Both inns sell rounds at $295 per golfer, green and cart fee, booked through the concierge or front desk once you hold a room. The club FAQ says members' rental guests may not use the club.

  • Camp Creek (Tom Fazio, 2001): dunes and pines near the Gulf, with sandy waste areas and water on about 11 holes. Slope 144 from the 7,120-yard Black tees. Closed Mondays.
  • Shark's Tooth (Greg Norman, 2002): pine, wetland and dune holes on Lake Powell, a rare coastal dune lake. Slope 130 from 7,246 yards, gentler from the middle tees. Ranked No. 53 in Golf Digest's Florida list for 2025/26, per Where2Golf. Closed Tuesdays.
  • The Third (Davis Love III, 2025): par 71, just north of Shark's Tooth, with six tee sets. No ratings published yet. Closed Wednesdays.

Our take: Camp Creek is the best of the three for most visitors. Member-guest weeks take courses off the guest sheet: Sharkfest in mid-October and Campfest on November 12-14, 2026. Club schedules also list maintenance closures: Shark's Tooth October 26-29, Camp Creek November 2-5 and The Third November 9-11, 2026. More in our Watersound Club golf guide and the Camp Creek golf guide.

After Hurricane Isaias. The storm made landfall near Destin on October 9, 2026, and St. Joe closed all its courses for cleanup. The Third and Origins reopened first. Camp Creek was due back on October 17, 2026 as nine holes while tree removal continued, and Shark's Tooth was listed as closed until further notice in late October. Confirm the full 18 before you book.

Origins: the only public golf on 30A

Origins Golf Club at Watersound is a Davis Love III short course on seashore paspalum. You can play a six-hole regulation loop (par 30, 1,852 yards per GolfPass) with real par 4s and 5s, or a ten-hole par-3 routing using alternate tees and greens. FootGolf runs daily in the afternoon.

It is open to the public through GolfNow or 850-249-3042, and guests of The Pearl Hotel in Rosemary Beach are pointed to it. An August 2026 GolfNow deal was about $61 with cart. It is the best quick round for families anywhere on east 30A, but not a substitute for 18 holes. See the Origins course guide.

Windswept Dunes: the public 18 near 30A

Windswept Dunes at Freeport is the answer for 30A golfers who will not stay at a St. Joe inn. It is a links-style course by Doug O'Rourke, opened in 2004 and routed through white sand dunes, some about 20 feet high, with wide fairways and heavy waste bunkering.

From the Championship tees it is 7,752 yards with a 77.4 rating and 145 slope, one of the longest courses in Florida. Pick the tee by handicap: even the 6,533-yard Emerald tees carry a 133 slope, while the Dune (5,977) and Sedge (5,173) sets drop to 121 and 107. October 2026 GolfNow deals ran $105 to $129 with cart, and a directory lists a $125 rack rate (undated). It is 38 minutes from WaterColor Inn and 39 from the Home2 Suites, over the US 331 bridge. See the Windswept Dunes course guide.
