One flag per course: Watersound Club golf: who can play Camp Creek, Shark's Tooth, The Third and Origins

Camp Creek, Shark's Tooth and The Third are for members, their guests and overnight guests of Camp Creek Inn or Watersound Inn, at $295 a round. Origins is open to anyone.

This guide sets out exactly who can play each course, how inn guests book, the closed days to plan around and the post-storm status.

The three ways in

There are only three routes onto the private Watersound Club golf courses.

1. Lifestyle membership. Golf is part of the Lifestyle tier, not the Beach & Sport tier, and Lifestyle dues include green and cart fees on the private courses. Dues were not published in our research; call the membership office on 850-213-5181.

2. A member's accompanied guest. The Shark's Tooth page says the course is available to members and their guests. Members' rental guests are excluded by the club FAQ.

3. An overnight stay at one of two inns. This is the route for visitors:

  • Camp Creek Inn: 75 rooms, opened 2023, overlooking Camp Creek and its range. Guests get "Member for a Stay" access. The concierge books tee times once the room is reserved, and the inn offers Ship Sticks and group golf packages. No pets; service dogs only.
  • Watersound Inn: 11 suites with full kitchens beside the Watersound Beach Club. Same $295 access to all three courses. Its Watersound Golf Getaway package bundles two rounds on your choice of course (price not shown). No shuttle, and you must be over 25 to book.

Room rates were not read for either inn; check rates. One inn stay is the cheapest legitimate route onto all three private courses. For a foursome, each round is $1,180 in green and cart fees on top of rooms.

What about the other St. Joe hotels? WaterColor Inn guests have historically had access to Shark's Tooth and Camp Creek, but no current page confirms it for 2026, so ask. The Pearl Hotel in Rosemary Beach now advertises only Origins for its guests; an older Watersound access arrangement is not current. The Home2 Suites by Hilton Santa Rosa Beach is St. Joe-owned, but we found no club golf access for its guests.

Camp Creek

Tom Fazio's Camp Creek opened in 2001 near the Gulf, with rolling fairways through dunes and pines, sandy waste areas and water on about 11 holes. It plays 7,120 yards from the Black tees at 74.9 / 144, with seven tee sets down to the 5,174-yard Burgundy. Greens are TifEagle bermuda and fairways Tifway 419.

There is a practice range and putting green, and a Golf Performance Center at the club. Our take: the best of the three for most visitors. It is Camp Creek Inn's home course, 1 minute from the inn. See our Camp Creek golf guide for how guests book it.

Shark's Tooth

Greg Norman's Shark's Tooth opened in 2002 on Lake Powell, a rare coastal dune lake, with pine, wetland and dune holes. It plays 7,246 yards from the Black tees at 74.6 / 130, and the middle tees carry slopes of only 123 to 124. Where2Golf lists it at No. 53 in Golf Digest's Florida ranking for 2025/26. The clubhouse has a bar and grill open 7 AM to 6 PM.

Our take: the scenic pick and the easier of the two older courses. It is 22 minutes from Camp Creek Inn and 18 from The Pearl.

The Third

The Third is the newest, a Davis Love III course that opened in 2025 just north of Shark's Tooth and east of Origins. The club page lists it as par 71 (pre-opening releases said par 72), with six tee sets running from about 4,900 to over 7,600 yards. Camp Creek Inn's page gives 7,252 yards. No tee ratings had been published. Its exact clubhouse location is not on our map, so the pin is approximate. Play it as the new one, not the proven one.

Origins: the public short course

Origins, also by Davis Love III, is the only Watersound course open to the public. It is a six-hole regulation loop (par 30, 1,852 yards per GolfPass) or a ten-hole par-3 routing, on seashore paspalum, with FootGolf in the afternoons. Book on GolfNow or call 850-249-3042. It is the best quick round for families on east 30A, with no stay required. See the Origins course guide.

Plan around closures and events

  • Weekly rest days: Camp Creek Monday, Shark's Tooth Tuesday, The Third Wednesday. Build a three-round stay around them.
  • Member-guest weeks: Sharkfest in mid-October and Campfest on November 12-14, 2026 take courses off the guest sheet.
  • 2026 maintenance closures: Shark's Tooth October 26-29, Camp Creek November 2-5, The Third November 9-11.
  • Booking window: not published. The inns advise booking early in peak season and around tournaments.

No overseed policy is published for any of the courses. Spring and October are the peak months on this coast; see best time to golf in Destin.

After Hurricane Isaias

Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Destin on October 9, 2026 as a Category 2. St. Joe closed all Watersound Club courses for cleanup (WJHG and a St. Joe release, October 12, 2026) and reopened them in stages, with The Third and Origins first. Camp Creek reopened on October 17, 2026 as nine holes, its front nine, while tree removal continued. Shark's Tooth was listed as closed until further notice in late October 2026. Confirm the full 18 with the inn before you book a fall 2026 trip. Our Destin hurricane season guide covers storm-season planning.

Is it worth it?

At $295 a round plus a luxury room, Watersound Club golf is the splurge on this coast. Compare Burnt Pine at Sandestin, also stay-to-play, at $179 in season for resort guests, or Windswept Dunes, the public course at Freeport, at $105 to $129 with cart in October 2026 (see the Windswept Dunes course guide). Watersound Club golf makes sense if you want two or three top private rounds and will base on east 30A anyway. Our 30A golf guide covers every option near 30A, and which Destin golf resort is best weighs the stays.

For a Gulf Coast resort course you can book without staying, see Kiva Dunes Golf Club in Gulf Shores.

Questions golfers ask

Can the public play Watersound Club golf courses?

Not directly. Camp Creek, Shark's Tooth and The Third have no outside public tee times. You play as a Watersound Club Lifestyle Member, as a member's accompanied guest, or as an overnight guest of Camp Creek Inn or Watersound Inn. Origins, the short course, is open to the public.

How much does it cost to play Camp Creek or Shark's Tooth?

Camp Creek Inn and Watersound Inn sell rounds to their guests at $295 per golfer per round, covering green and cart fee, per the inn sites read on October 26, 2026. No seasonal split was published. That is on top of the room rate.

Does WaterColor Inn include Watersound Club golf?

It is not confirmed for 2026. WaterColor Inn guests have historically had access to Shark's Tooth and Camp Creek, but the current inn and club pages do not list golf for them. Ask the inn, or book Camp Creek Inn or Watersound Inn for certain access.

Can I play if I rent a member's house?

No. The Watersound Club FAQ says rental guests of members may not use the club. Only members, their accompanied guests and guests of the two inns are listed as eligible.

Which Watersound Club course is best?

For most visitors, Camp Creek: a Tom Fazio dunes-and-pines course with water on about 11 holes and a 144 slope from the back. Shark's Tooth, by Greg Norman on Lake Powell, is the scenic and gentler pick. The Third opened in 2025 and has no published ratings yet.

What days are the Watersound Club courses closed?

Each course rests one day a week: Camp Creek on Monday, Shark's Tooth on Tuesday and The Third on Wednesday. Origins is also closed on Wednesdays. Member-guest events and maintenance weeks also take courses off the guest sheet.

Are the courses open after Hurricane Isaias?

They reopened in stages after the October 9, 2026 storm. The Third and Origins were first. Camp Creek reopened on October 17, 2026 as nine holes while tree removal continued, and Shark's Tooth was closed until further notice in late October 2026.
