Average high by month: The best time to golf in Destin, month by month

The best time to golf in Destin is October and mid-April to mid-May. October is the driest month of the year (2.82 inches) with highs near 81F and empty beaches. Mid-April to mid-May brings mid-70s to low-80s days after spring break. Winter is the value season, and summer works if you tee off at dawn.

The Emerald Coast is a year-round golf coast, but the reasons to go change month by month: weather, crowds, green fees, overseeding and hurricanes. This guide uses NOAA's 1991-2020 normals for Destin Executive Airport, Sandestin's published 2026 rate table and the course records on our map.

Spring (March to May): peak golf, with a catch

Spring is the best golf of the year on paper, with beach highs from about 71F to 84F. Sandestin's 2026 table puts every course at its top price from March 6: $159 public at The Raven, $119 at Baytowne and The Links, and $179 at Burnt Pine for resort guests.

The catch is spring break. College weeks run through March, and K-12 breaks from feeder states land in late March and early April (Easter is March 28, 2027). Beach condos fill, often with week-long minimums, and US 98 and the 331 bridge back up on Saturdays. Mid-April to mid-May is the sweet spot, apart from the Sandestin Wine Festival weekend (April 16-19 in 2026). Watch Sandestin's May aeration closures too. See Destin golf in spring.

Summer (June to August): dawn golf, low rates

Summer is hot and humid, with highs of 89-91F, nights of 74-76F and afternoon storms on 10 to 12 days a month at the beach, more inland. It is the area's peak season for rooms and traffic, but golf is in its low-rate season at many courses, with open tee sheets at dawn. Many bermuda courses aerify greens between June and August, so check dates before you book. Kelly Plantation was an exception to cheap summer golf: a GolfNow deal for August 9, 2026 was $160.99. See Destin summer golf.

Fall (September to November): the best time to golf in Destin

After Labor Day the beaches empty and prices fall while the water stays warm. October is the standout: the driest month, about 81F by day and 63F at night, with the month-long Destin Fishing Rodeo busy on the harbor but not filling the area the way spring break does. Late-October 2026 GolfNow deals at Kelly Plantation ran $89.99-$118.99, far below early-September mornings.

Two caveats. Hurricane risk runs through October; Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Destin on October 9, 2026 as a Category 2, and Camp Creek was still playing nine holes from October 17. And early November brings overseed closures: Baytowne November 2-8 and The Links November 3-9, 2026. See Destin golf in October and the Kelly Plantation course guide.

Winter (December to February): cool, quiet and cheap

Winter is mild: beach highs of 63-66F and lows of 45-48F, with nights about 6-7F colder north of the bay at Niceville. It is the cheapest time for golf and short stays outside Christmas-New Year week. The Raven drops to $109 public or $95 guest from November 2, 2026, and Burnt Pine to $149.

It is also snowbird season, so weekday mornings are busiest at local-favourite courses. Shalimar Pointe sells snowbird memberships for October 1 to March 31, and Indian Bayou runs a daily public tee sheet. Non-overseeded bermuda goes dormant and tan but stays playable. See Destin golf in winter and Destin golf winter conditions.

The best time to golf in Destin, by golfer

  • Best weather and conditions: October, then mid-April to mid-May.
  • Best value: January and February midweek, or December outside the holidays.
  • A buddies trip with nightlife: spring or fall at Sandestin, avoiding spring-break weeks and the Wine Festival weekend.
  • A family beach-and-golf trip: June or early August, with dawn tee times; see the Indian Bayou course guide.
  • A month or more: January and February, the core snowbird months.

Golf and the beach: water temperatures

Many Destin golf trips are half beach trips, and the Gulf decides how much the beach half is worth. Measured at the nearest open-Gulf gauge in Panama City Beach (2016-2025 averages), the water runs about 61F in January, 67F in March, 71F in April and 78F in May. It peaks at about 86F in August, then falls to 79F in October, 71F in November and 64F in December. October pairs water still near 79F with the driest weather of the year, which is why it suits golf-and-beach groups.

How far ahead to book

The busier the month, the earlier you need to lock in. For spring and October, book rooms and key tee times as early as the windows allow: Sandestin resort guests can book tee times up to six months ahead and packages up to 13 months, while the public gets 14 days. For the private St. Joe courses, book the inn first and ask the concierge at once; member-guest weeks, such as Sharkfest in mid-October and Campfest November 12-14, 2026, take courses off the guest sheet. See Destin tee times.

Events that move prices and traffic

  • 30A Songwriters Festival: January 15-18, 2027, filling 30A and Grand Boulevard lodging.
  • Spring break: early March to mid-April.
  • Sandestin Wine Festival: mid-April at Baytowne Wharf.
  • Billy Bowlegs Pirate Festival: mid-May in Fort Walton Beach.
  • Destin Seafood Festival: late September on the harbor.
  • Destin Fishing Rodeo: all of October.

October for most golfers: a normal high of 80.9F, the driest month of the year at 2.82 inches, and the beach crowds gone. Mid-April to mid-May is the other sweet spot, with mid-70s to low-80s days, after spring break and before summer. Both are peak golf seasons, so book early.

When is peak golf season in Destin?

Spring (March to May) and fall (September to November), with October the second golf high. Sandestin's top 2026 rates start March 6 at all four courses. Spring break fills beach condos and jams US 98 through March and into early April.

When is golf cheapest in Destin?

Winter, December to February, outside Christmas-New Year week. Sandestin's 2026 winter rates start November 2 at The Raven and Burnt Pine, and monthly snowbird cards bring The Links and Baytowne to $45 plus tax. Summer is also a low-rate golf season at many courses, though rooms are at their highest.

Is summer a bad time to golf in Destin?

It is hot and stormy, not bad. July averages 90.9F with storms on about 11 days, so tee off at dawn. Summer is the peak for room rates and traffic, but tee sheets are open early and many courses aerify greens between June and August, so check dates.

Does hurricane season matter for a golf trip?

Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, and the main risk window for the Panhandle is August to October. Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Destin on October 9, 2026, closing or shortening several courses. For August to October trips, check cancellation terms.
