Destin golf in spring is the best golf weather of the year: beach highs of about 71F in March, 76F in April and 84F in May, with May the driest spring month. It is also peak season, with Sandestin's top 2026 rates from March 6 and spring break filling condos through March. Mid-April to mid-May is the sweet spot.

March: prime golf, spring-break crowds

March is when prime golf starts. Highs are about 71F, lows about 54F, and it is still breezy (7.6 mph on average, nearly as windy as January). It is also the heart of spring break. One travel site lists Georgia college breaks March 6-13 and Alabama colleges March 13-20, 2027, and Alabama's K-12 break runs March 29-April 2, 2027 per a school-calendar site.

During those weeks beach condos fill, often with week-long minimums, US 98 through Destin and the Clyde B. Wells Bridge on US 331 back up on Saturdays, and sheriffs step up beach patrols. For a golf group, the research suggests two fixes: go mid-April to mid-May instead, or base north of the bay. The Hampton Inn Niceville is 9 minutes from Rocky Bayou and Bluewater Bay, and 18 from Regatta Bay over the Mid-Bay Bridge.

April: peak demand

April brings the mid-70s days that make Destin golf in spring so popular, and peak golf demand with spring green fees. Georgia's K-12 break runs April 5-9, 2027 per one calendar, with districts varying. Mid-April brings the Sandestin Wine Festival at Baytowne Wharf (April 16-19 in 2026; 2027 dates not yet published), which fills Sandestin lodging for the long weekend. If you are booking a Sandestin package that week, book early.

May: the driest spring month, and aeration

May is in the low 80s with only about 3.2 inches of rain on 6 days, the last comfortable month before summer. Two things to watch. Sandestin aerates every course in May, closing each for about a week in 2026: The Raven May 4-11, Baytowne May 4-10, Burnt Pine May 11-17 and The Links May 12-18. And the Billy Bowlegs Pirate Festival fills downtown Fort Walton Beach mid-month (May 14-16 in 2026), slowing US 98 near the Brooks Bridge. Memorial Day weekend (May 31, 2027) opens the beach season.

What spring golf costs

Sandestin's 2026 table puts every course at its top price in spring:

Course Spring dates (2026) Public Resort guest
The RavenMar 6-May 3$159$130
BaytowneMar 6-May 3$119$95
The LinksMar 6-May 11$119$95
Burnt PineMar 6-May 10Not sold$179

After the May aeration closures, recovery rates are cheaper for everyone: $89 at The Raven (May 12-24), $69 at Baytowne (May 11-25), $69 at The Links (May 19-June 1) and $115 at Burnt Pine (May 18-31). The catch is that the greens are punched. See the Raven course guide.

At dynamic-priced public courses such as Kelly Plantation, no spring rate was published in our research. Expect demand pricing, and compare GolfNow times across the week. See Destin golf rates.

How to book Destin golf in spring

  1. Pick your weeks first. Mid-April to mid-May avoids most spring break, apart from the Wine Festival weekend at Sandestin.
  2. Lock rooms early. Spring-break condos often need Saturday-to-Saturday stays.
  3. Use the long windows. Sandestin resort guests can book tee times six months ahead; packages and groups 13 months. The public gets 14 days.
  4. Play early. March is breezy, and on the bay holes at The Links wind is the main defence; go before the afternoon sea breeze.
  5. Avoid Saturday transfers. Arrive midweek if you can; spring-break Saturdays are the worst on US 98.

Where to base for spring golf

Base close to the courses you most want, because spring traffic punishes long drives. Free-flow drive times from three bases show the trade-off:

Base Kelly Plantation Regatta Bay The Raven Burnt Pine Rocky Bayou
Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort16 min12 min6 min9 min32 min
Holiday Inn Express Destin East7 min5 min16 min20 min22 min
Hampton Inn Niceville20 min18 min31 min35 min9 min

On spring-break and summer Saturdays, add 20 to 60 minutes or more on US 98 and the 331 bridge. A Sandestin base keeps three or four rounds inside the gates, and the resort tram runs between the beaches, Baytowne Wharf and the courses. See where to stay in Destin for golf.

Value golf in spring

If Sandestin's spring prices are too steep, look west. The city's Fort Walton Beach Golf Club Pines course runs dynamic rates that a local guide estimates at $72-$82 with cart at peak, and it has new TifEagle greens from 2025. Rocky Bayou lists $109 for 18 with cart and range balls on its site, with no seasonal variation published. See the Kelly Plantation course guide for the area's best public course, and cheap golf in Destin for the rest.

Spring vs fall

Spring and fall are the two peaks of Destin golf. Spring has the crowds and the top rates; fall, especially October, has the driest weather and empty beaches, but runs into hurricane season and early-November overseed closures. Read Destin golf in October and the best time to golf in Destin to compare.

Questions golfers ask

Is spring a good time for Destin golf?

It is the peak golf season. Beach highs run from 70.7F in March to 83.5F in May, and May is the driest spring month at 3.22 inches. The trade-offs are spring-break crowds and the year's top green fees at Sandestin, which start March 6.

When is spring break in Destin in 2027?

Roughly early March to mid-April. One Florida travel site lists Georgia college breaks March 6-13 and Alabama colleges March 13-20, 2027. K-12 breaks per a school-calendar site are Alabama statewide March 29-April 2 and Georgia April 5-9, 2027, with district variation. Easter is March 28, 2027.

What is the best part of spring for a golf trip?

Mid-April to mid-May. Spring break is over, April averages 76.2F, and May is dry. Avoid the Sandestin Wine Festival weekend at Sandestin (April 16-19 in 2026; 2027 dates not yet published) and Sandestin's May aeration weeks.

How much is golf at Sandestin in spring?

In 2026: The Raven $159 public or $130 for resort guests, Baytowne and The Links $119 public or $95 guest, and Burnt Pine $179 for members' guests and resort guests only. These top rates start March 6 and run to early May at Baytowne and The Raven.

Which Sandestin courses close in May?

For 2026 aeration: The Raven May 4-11, Baytowne May 4-10, Burnt Pine May 11-17 and The Links May 12-18. Each then sells cheaper recovery rates for about two weeks while the greens heal.

How far ahead should I book spring golf?

As early as the rules allow. Sandestin resort guests can book tee times six months ahead, and packages and groups 13 months ahead; the public gets 14 days. Beach condos often require week-long stays in spring break, so book rooms early too.

Where should I stay during spring break?

Somewhere close to your tee times, or north of the bay. Spring-break Saturdays back up US 98 through Destin and the 331 bridge. The Hampton Inn in Niceville is 9 minutes from Bluewater Bay and Rocky Bayou and avoids the beach crowds.
