Guide emblem: Driving range in Destin: where to practice, Toptracer and TrackMan bays, and club rental

There is no stand-alone driving range in Destin that we could confirm open, so practice here means a course range. Regatta Bay has the best set-up in Destin, with a covered area, greenside bunkers and Trackman. For a lit evening range, the Fort Walton Beach Golf Club has a lighted TrackMan range, and for Toptracer, Blackwater in Crestview has 14 bays.

This guide lists every practice facility in our course research, who can use it, and where to rent clubs if you fly in without them.

Quick facts

  • Best practice set-up in Destin: Regatta Bay (range, covered practice area with bunkers, Trackman, academy).
  • Lit TrackMan range: Fort Walton Beach Golf Club, opened September 26, 2025.
  • Toptracer: Blackwater Golf Club, Crestview (14 bays); Gator Lakes on Hurlburt Field (base pass needed).
  • Balls included: all four Sandestin courses include practice balls with the round.
  • No range time for non-players: Indian Bayou; Rocky Bayou gives balls only with a round.
  • Club rental: at the courses; the Links lists $60.

Regatta Bay: the best practice in Destin

Regatta Bay's practice area is the most complete in Destin: a driving range, a putting green and a covered practice area of more than 1,200 square feet with greenside bunkers and Trackman. The club calls its academy Destin's only golf academy. It is also the hardest course in Destin, with a 147 slope from the 6,840-yard Black tees, so a warm-up bucket is worth it. The pro shop is open 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and rents clubs. Our research did not confirm whether non-players can buy range time, so call 850-337-8080. See the Regatta Bay course guide.

TrackMan and Toptracer bays

Fort Walton Beach Golf Club opened a lighted TrackMan driving range on September 26, 2025. The city club's Performance Center, five TrackMan iO simulator bays in the former Edwin Watts space, was due to open in winter 2026-27. It is the nearest lit, data-driven range to Destin, and the club shares it between its Pines and Oaks courses. See the Fort Walton Beach Golf Club Pines course guide and our Fort Walton Beach golf guide.

Blackwater Golf Club in Crestview, the renovated old Foxwood, has a 14-bay Toptracer range taking up to eight people per bay, with virtual courses, and offers the bays for events and parties. It is about 53 minutes north of Destin harbour, so it suits a winter stay inland or a rainy-day group outing more than a beach trip. See the Blackwater course guide.

Gator Lakes on Hurlburt Field has a covered driving range with Toptracer. Civilians have been allowed since April 21, 2023, but need a one-time background check: fill in the "Open to the Public" affidavit on myhurlburt.com, take it to the Visitor Control Center at the main gate, and get a pass valid for six months. Then enter by the East Gate.

Sandestin: balls included

At Sandestin, practice balls come with the round at all four courses, along with the cart and green fee:

  • The Raven: practice balls included; range details not published. Club rental offered.
  • Baytowne: practice balls included before play. Our area research notes Baytowne lists equipment rentals.
  • The Links: an irons-only practice facility, $10 for non-players per the course site. Club rental $60.
  • Burnt Pine: practice balls included; resort guests and members only.

The Hilton Sandestin also lists The Dunes putting course for its guests.

Courses with no range

Plan your warm-up elsewhere at these:

  • Seascape: no driving range on property.
  • Signal Hill in Panama City Beach: putting green, no range.
  • Bluewater Bay: range status unclear; an older review says the range was replaced by housing.

Legacy in Panama City Beach has a driving range and practice facility. On the private side, Camp Creek and Shark's Tooth list a practice range and putting green, and the Watersound Club has a Golf Performance Center, all for members and St. Joe inn guests.

Golf Garden of Destin in Miramar Beach, a family golf centre that had a driving range, a 9-hole par-29 executive course and an 18-hole putting course, is probably closed: Airbnb's place page marks it permanently closed and GolfNow shows no bookable times.

Lessons

  • Regatta Bay: the academy, with Trackman in the covered practice area.
  • Kelly Plantation and Emerald Bay: teaching pros; Emerald Bay also runs a golf school.
  • Shalimar Pointe: lessons and club fitting.
  • Windswept Dunes: teaching pro.

Practice for snowbirds

For a winter stay, a membership often beats paying per bucket. Shalimar Pointe's snowbird membership (October 1 to March 31) includes unlimited golf with cart and use of the practice facilities: $450 for one month or $1,150 for three, single, plus tax. The Gator Lakes six-month base pass makes repeat practice easy for anyone staying west of Fort Walton Beach. See Destin winter golf for snowbirds and the Destin golf weekly schedule.
