Courses west to east: Yuma Medjool Dates: Visiting a Date Farm and the January AGFest

Yuma Medjool dates are easiest to find at Martha's Gardens Medjool Date Farm, whose farm store is open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM between November and April, right through golf season. Visitors take a guided tour, then buy boxed dates and a date shake. In January, the city's free AGFest has replaced the old Medjool Date Festival.

For winter golfers, a visit for Yuma Medjool dates is one of the simplest rest-day outings in town: short, local and open on weekdays. Here is what is published about the farm, the store hours, the festival and how to fit them into a week of golf. Details were checked on October 23, 2026.

Yuma Medjool dates: visiting Martha's Gardens

Martha's Gardens is the Yuma date farm with published visitor details. Visitors describe a guided tour followed by time in the farm store, which is known for its date shakes and boxed dates.

The farm's own website (datesaz.com) failed to load when we checked on October 23, 2026, so current tour times and prices could not be confirmed. That makes the phone the best tool: call 928-726-8831 or 928-726-8833 the day before and ask when the next tour runs.

Martha's Gardens store hours

Season Days Hours
November to AprilMonday to Saturday10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
From MayMonday to Friday9:00 AM to 3:00 PM

These hours come from a Fill Your Plate farm listing that carries no date. The listing gives no Sunday hours in either season, so do not plan a Sunday visit without calling first.

The November to April hours line up neatly with the winter-visitor season, when most golfers are in town. A 10:00 AM opening also suits a morning on the course followed by an afternoon at the farm, or the other way round.

When to go for Yuma Medjool dates

The farm store's winter hours match the months most golfers are in Yuma. Here is how the store season lines up with Yuma's weather and the golf calendar (NOAA 1991-2020 normals at the Yuma airfield):

Month Store days (listing) Average high / low Golf in Yuma
NovemberMon-Sat, 10 AM-5 PM77.7F / 54.4FFresh rye; winter visitors arriving
DecemberMon-Sat, 10 AM-5 PM67.8F / 46.8FShort days; tee times shift to late morning
JanuaryMon-Sat, 10 AM-5 PM69.8F / 47.9FPeak season; AGFest month
FebruaryMon-Sat, 10 AM-5 PM73.4F / 50.4FPeak season; Silver Spur Rodeo
MarchMon-Sat, 10 AM-5 PM80.2F / 55.0FPeak season; car show and air show
AprilMon-Sat, 10 AM-5 PM86.4F / 59.8FCrowds thin after Easter
MayMon-Fri, 9 AM-3 PM94.3F / 66.9FSummer rates begin at some courses

A cool December or January morning is a good time for a farm visit, since the first tee times of the day are chilly anyway. By April, afternoons are warm enough that a morning round and an afternoon at the farm store is the better order.

The 2026 date harvest

A May 2026 news report on Yuma date farms described Martha's Gardens as having about 10,000 producing Medjool palms on 160 acres. The same report described an early start to the 2026 harvest.

Yuma's summer heat is also why Yuma golf runs on a winter calendar. NOAA normals at the Yuma airfield give average highs of about 103F in June, 107F in July and 106F in August. If you are in town in May, note that the farm store's hours shorten from May (weekdays only, closing at 3:00 PM per the listing), and plan golf for first light.

Yuma AGFest: the festival that replaced the date festival

Yuma's earlier Medjool Date Festivals were held on early-January Saturdays. In 2025 it became Yuma AGFest, a broader one-day festival celebrating Yuma agriculture: dates, produce, food and music, free, in downtown Yuma.

Year Event Date
2024Medjool Date FestivalSaturday, January 6, 2024
2025Yuma AGFest (first edition)January 4, 2025
2026Yuma AGFestJanuary 24, 2026, 1:00 to 9:00 PM, downtown
2027Yuma AGFestNot published as of October 23, 2026

Every edition so far has been in January, in the heart of peak winter-visitor season. AGFest fills downtown for the day but has little effect on tee sheets or lodging, so it does not need to change your golf plans.

AGFest is one of the main dated events in Yuma's winter calendar, and the only one built around Yuma Medjool dates and local produce:

Event When Effect on a golf week
Yuma AGFestJanuary (2027 date not published)Busy downtown for a day; little effect on tee sheets
Yuma Silver Spur RodeoFebruary (2027 dates not published; second weekend of February by tradition)A busy local weekend; modest effect on hotels
Midnight at the OasisMarch 5-7, 2027Classic-car show that fills hotels for the weekend
MCAS Yuma AirshowSaturday, March 13, 2027Free; heavy traffic near the air station and airport

If you are only in Yuma for a week or two in January, AGFest is the event that lines up with your stay. Watch the City of Yuma's AGFest page for the 2027 date.

One event you can cross off the list: Yuma Lettuce Days, once held in late February or early March, was dropped from the visitors bureau's calendar in 2017, and no revival has been found. AGFest is the current agriculture festival.

Fitting a date farm into a Yuma golf week

The farm visit takes a morning or an afternoon, which makes it a good fit for the days when your usual course is busy with league play. From October to April, several Yuma courses hold regular league mornings:

Course Busy league times (winter)
Las BarrancasTuesday Silver League and Wednesday Women's League mornings, October to April
Mesa del SolMen's Association Fridays from 11:00 AM (mid-October to mid-April); Ladies' Monday and Thursday from 9:00 AM (November to April)
Desert HillsMen's and women's clubs exist; league days not published

A sample January rest day. January in Yuma averages a high of about 70F and a low of about 48F, so the first tee times are chilly. Sleep in, visit the farm when the store opens at 10:00 AM, have a date shake, and take a late-afternoon walk along the river. If you want golf too, a twilight round fits: Las Barrancas posts a $55 twilight rate from 3:00 PM (seen October 2026; rates change), and the Las Barrancas course guide has the tee sheet details.

On AGFest day. Play in the morning, then head downtown for the afternoon and evening. The 2026 festival ran 1:00 to 9:00 PM. Desert Hills, the city course, is about 11 minutes from downtown; see the Desert Hills course guide.

In a weekly rotation. If you are spending a month or more in Yuma, slot the farm into the rest day of your weekly plan. The snowbird golf schedule for Yuma shows how to arrange the week, and Yuma golf leagues explains the league days in more detail.

More to pair with the farm

A morning spent on Yuma Medjool dates pairs well with the town's other short outings:

  • Yuma Territorial Prison State Historic Park, open daily 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM from October 1 to May 31; adults $10.
  • Colorado River State Historic Park, Tuesday to Sunday 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM in season; adults $10.
  • The riverfront, from Gateway Park along the East and West Wetlands paths.

If Yuma Medjool dates are your excuse for a day off, hours, fees and more ideas are in things to do in Yuma. For a meal after the farm, see where to eat in Yuma. If you are planning a January trip around AGFest, read Yuma golf in January, and for the whole season, Yuma winter golf and best time to golf in Yuma.

Plan it on the map

Open the Yuma golf map to see every course and stay with drive times from downtown, then pick the day that fits a farm visit. The $30 plan can build rest days into a golf trip, or cover a whole winter stay with a weekly course rotation.
