Golf Digest's ranking history is worth knowing: #2 in Nevada for 2011-16, #5 now, and as high as #21 on the 100 Greatest Public list in 2009-10. It also finished third in Golf Digest's survey of America's best new upscale public courses of 2001.

Getting to Wolf Creek from St. George, Utah

Wolf Creek is Mesquite's highest-ranked course, and it isn't far from Utah. Head southwest on I-15 from St. George, through the short Arizona stretch of the Virgin River Gorge, and you're in Mesquite. Drive estimates from the map (minutes, road miles):

Starting point To Wolf Creek
Downtown St. George52 min, 40.0 mi
Hilton Garden Inn St. George48 min, 38.5 mi
The Advenire, downtown52 min, 40.6 mi
Best Western Plus Settlers Point, Washington56 min, 45.9 mi
Holiday Inn Express St. George North - Zion, Coral Canyon59 min, 48.7 mi
Black Desert Resort, Ivins63 min, 45.8 mi
Comfort Inn & Suites, Hurricane67 min, 54.9 mi

These are routing estimates, not GPS times. The point is simple: from anywhere in Washington County, Wolf Creek is roughly an hour, and the clock works in your favour on the way down. Mesquite is on Pacific time, an hour behind St. George, so if you leave at 7:00 Utah time you arrive a little before 7:00 Mesquite time. For a full one-day plan, see the Mesquite golf day trip from St. George.

What a round costs: the Wolf Creek rate calendar

Wolf Creek prices by date window, not by season name. These are the official 2025-26 rack rates, read October 11, 2026. Rates after June 15, 2026 weren't posted, and fall 2026 and 2027 prices weren't out yet. Use this as a guide to the pattern and expect changes.

Dates (2025-26) Mon–Thu Fri–Sun
Sep 26 – Dec 7, 2025$330$330
Dec 8, 2025 – Jan 14, 2026$200$200
Jan 15 – Feb 4$230$230
Feb 5 – 26$330$330
Feb 27 – Mar 12$360$390
Mar 13 – Apr 7$390$420
Apr 8 – May 5$360$390
May 6 – 12$310$310
May 13 – 19$275$275
May 20 – Jun 15$225$225

Twilight was $280 in fall 2025 and $330 to $350 from late February to early May 2026. There's no twilight from December to early February or after May 5. Twilight is non-refundable, there are no rain checks, and finishing isn't guaranteed. For a day trip from St. George, twilight is a poor fit anyway: you'd be driving home in the dark and losing an hour to the clock.

The cheapest window for the full experience is December 8 to January 14, at $200. The trade-off is split-tee starts in winter, and frost delays push everyone back. In the March to early-April peak, a weekend round reaches $420.

Booking rules: - Foursomes only. No fivesomes, and the shop may pair singles and twosomes. - Cancel more than 48 hours out (groups of 11 or fewer) to avoid a charge. No-shows pay full rack. - The booking window isn't published. Book online or through Wolf Creek Vacations (866-252-4653).

Choosing tees: be honest

This is the most important decision you'll make here. The club card and the USGA disagree on the numbers. The table uses the current USGA rating and rated length, with the card yardage alongside.

Tee Rated yds (card) Men Women
Challenger6,785 (6,939)74.4 / 147n/a
Champions6,153 (6,377)71.1 / 140n/a
Masters5,683 (5,798)69.0 / 13374.5 / 148
Signature4,809 (5,064)64.6 / 11669.3 / 133
Classics4,006 (4,101)61.4 / 10965.5 / 113

From the Challenger tees the front nine slopes 139 and the back nine 155. In plain terms:

  • Challenger is for genuine low single-digit players.
  • Champions (140) is already a stiff test for most good amateurs.
  • Masters is where many mid-handicappers will enjoy the day more.
  • The jump from Masters to Signature is nearly 900 rated yards, so the shorter sets are a real step down.

One reviewer says #8 is fun from the white tees and punishing from the back. It's a fair rule for the whole course.

The holes people talk about

  • #2: the tee box sits about 11 stories above the fairway (GolfPass). It sets the tone.
  • #8: a 248-yard par 3 from the back tees. A creek wraps the front and left of the green and spills over a waterfall behind it. There's bailout room on the right, but you can't see it from the tee.
  • #12: widely called the signature hole. It's a par 5 of about 560 yards from a dramatically elevated tee, with a drop of nearly 100 feet. There's a pond left of the landing zone, and the narrow green has water short-left and another pond long-right.
  • #14: doglegs left with six bunkers inside the bend. Favour the right side, because anything left is likely a bogey.
  • #15: a 125-yard par 3, and the best birdie chance on the course.
  • #17: a 562-yard par 5 down a chute between mountains, finishing with a tall approach over a river to a peninsula green guarded by eight bunkers. On the map's elevation data it's also the biggest tee-to-green drop on the course, roughly 150 feet.

Across the round, the map's hole data adds up to about 630 feet of downhill against about 210 feet of uphill from tee to green. That tells you how much climbing happens on the cart paths between holes.

The day itself

  • Check in at least 30 minutes early. There's a driving range (the site shows a Toptracer badge but no details).
  • Carts are included. Reviews say gas carts are required and the paths have many speed bumps. No walking policy is published, and the terrain makes it cart-only in practice.
  • Dress code: proper golf attire, with no denim of any kind, no t-shirts and no tank tops.
  • Pace: the club says rounds will "most likely exceed five hours." Don't book a dinner reservation back in St. George that depends on a fast round.
  • Food: the clubhouse, Terrace restaurant and pro shop were remodeled, with the work finished in early October 2026. The course layout didn't change. The Terrace serves breakfast and lunch daily, plus dinner on Fridays and Saturdays from October to June (4 to 8 pm).

If anyone in your group still wants to swing afterward, the 9-hole Coyote Willows by the river is $50 for nine (online, October to December 2026). It's a neighbourhood nine, not a destination.

Overseed and fall 2026

In 2026 Wolf Creek closed August 30 to October 2 for overseed, after being sprayed into dormancy from August 25. The 2025 closure was September 2 to 25. Right after reopening, early October can mean cart-path-only holes and grass that's still filling in. If you have the choice, late October or November is the safer fall window. Our St. George overseed schedule shows how this lines up with the Utah courses.

Coming from Las Vegas instead

If you're flying, Mesquite is about 1 hour 10 minutes up I-15 from the Las Vegas airport, so Wolf Creek also works as an arrival-day round on the way to St. George. See our guide to flying to St. George for golf.

Where to stay: Mesquite or St. George

Three Mesquite hotels are about 5 to 6 minutes from the clubhouse:

Staying in St. George instead is fine. It's a straight drive down I-15 and the time change helps in the morning. Our St. George golf hotels guide covers the Utah side.

Is Wolf Creek worth it next to the St. George courses?

That depends on what you compare it with. Here's how it stacks up against the region's other big-ticket and high-slope rounds, using fees seen in October 2026:

Course Where Back-tee slope Fees seen
Wolf CreekMesquite, NV147$200–$420
Black DesertIvins, UT139$250–$450
Sand Hollow ChampionshipHurricane, UT137about $75–$366 (dynamic)
ConestogaMesquite, NV138$80–$300
Coral CanyonWashington, UT148about $75–$135

If you want Wolf Creek's ridge-top canyon golf and you'll pick the right tees, it's worth the drive from St. George. Go in December or early January for $200. If you want a ranked Mesquite course for less, Conestoga's summer rate (June 22 to August 30) is $80 to $120, at the cost of the heat. On the Utah side, the Black Desert course guide and Sand Hollow course guide are the natural comparisons.
