Gold Canyon golf means three courses under the Superstition Mountains that visitors can book: Dinosaur Mountain and Sidewinder at Gold Canyon Golf Resort, and public Mountain Brook next door, all covered by one 2026/27 Players Pass. Dinosaur Mountain is the draw, and it reopens from overseed on November 6, 2026. The area is about 50 minutes east of Old Town Scottsdale.

This guide covers the three Gold Canyon courses, the private club beside them, the overseed timing, and the RV resorts in Gold Canyon and Apache Junction that make this a snowbird base. Prices were seen in November 2026 and change.

Dinosaur Mountain

Dinosaur Mountain is a Ken Kavanaugh design that climbs the foot of the Superstition Mountains, with big elevation changes and views. It is short at 6,653 yards from the Gold tees, but the 145 slope tells you how tough it plays. It is the course Mesa and Apache Junction snowbirds talk about.

Tee options run down to 5,144 yards (Silver, 64.6/115 for men) and a 4,793-yard Copper tee rated for women at 67.6/120, so couples and mixed groups can play it. The catch is timing: the course was closed October 12 to November 5, 2026, reopens Friday, November 6, and will be cart path only for up to six weeks. If you visit in November or early December, check the cart rule when you book. See the Dinosaur Mountain course guide.

Sidewinder

Sidewinder is the flatter, more forgiving course below Dinosaur Mountain, par 71 and 6,530 yards at 72.0/134. Only its greens and tees are overseeded, so it closed for just two weeks (September 21 to October 4, 2026), reopened October 5, and had no cart-path-only rule. The trade-off is dormant bermuda fairways in mid-winter.

That makes it the better Gold Canyon golf choice in October and November, and a good everyday round for East Valley snowbirds the rest of the season. See the Sidewinder course guide.

Mountain Brook

Mountain Brook calls itself a public golf course in Gold Canyon, playing 5,100 to 6,700 yards depending on the tees. It has its own online tee times and is included in the 2026/27 Gold Canyon Players Pass. Tees, ratings, fees and overseed dates were not in the files. It is a local's course for Gold Canyon and Apache Junction winter residents and good value alongside the pass. See the Mountain Brook course guide.

What Gold Canyon golf costs

The resort's tee-time page, read November 3, 2026, prices by day, time, weather and demand, and says booking early (up to 90 days) gets better rates. It published no dollar figures. A course directory updated in 2024 listed peak visitor fees of:

Days Peak visitor fee (2024 listing)
Monday to Thursday$85-$110
Friday to Sunday$135-$150

Treat those as a guide only; add the 5.5% water resource fee and tax. Gold Canyon Golf Resort was also part of an Arizona Golf Trails package running through the end of 2026: a casita, two rounds on Dinosaur Mountain and one on Sidewinder, with optional add-ons at Longbow, Las Sendas and We-Ko-Pa. The price was not captured. For passes across the Valley, see Phoenix golf passes.

Superstition Mountain Golf & Country Club

Superstition Mountain is a private club with two Jack Nicklaus courses, Prospector and Lost Gold. Golf members have exclusive access, and the club has a guest-information page we did not read. Plan on playing it only as a member's guest. See private golf clubs in Scottsdale.

Gold Canyon RV & Golf Resort's par-3 nine opened for the season on November 1, 2026, seven days a week from 8 am to 4 pm. Fees (tax extra): nine holes $35 for residents or $40 for non-residents, twilight after 1 pm $20 or $30, a 10-punch card $200 or $350, and a November 1, 2026 to April 30, 2027 season pass at $1,200 or $1,400 a couple and $700 or $800 single. Watch the rules: monthly stays that include any part of February are non-refundable, and a $200 park season fee applies to some stays that include February.

Canyon Vistas is the priciest Cal-Am card read, but set under the Superstitions away from Mesa traffic. Cal-Am bills electric, sewer and trash monthly, takes a $250 deposit for a month or more, and gives no refunds for early departures.

Sunrise is a gated 55+ resort in Apache Junction with the lowest Jan-Mar price read for the area. Monthly guests set up SRP electric in their own name at least four days before arrival. An annual site from October 2026 to September 2027 was $7,400 standard.

  • Superstition Springs, an Arcis daily-fee 18, 7,005 yards at 73.0/130.

Timing a Gold Canyon golf winter

November is the tricky month: Dinosaur Mountain is cart path only into mid-December, so start the season on Sidewinder and Mountain Brook. January to March is prime at the RV resorts and the busiest time on the tee sheet. Off the course, Lost Dutchman State Park sits at the foot of the Superstitions with day use at $10 for one person or $20 for two to four people per vehicle.

Snowbirds flying in can use Phoenix-Mesa Gateway (AZA), the closest airport to the Gold Canyon and Apache Junction RV resorts; see flights to Phoenix for golf. For a full season plan, read Phoenix winter golf, our snowbird golf schedule for Phoenix and the Phoenix golf overseed guide. Weighing a different desert base? Compare Tucson RV resorts for golfers.

Plan it on the map

Open the Scottsdale golf map to see the Gold Canyon golf signposts with the East Valley courses and RV resorts. The $30 plan can cover a whole winter from a Gold Canyon or Apache Junction base, with a weekly rotation that works around Dinosaur Mountain's cart-path weeks.
