Courses drawn to one scale: Fort Myers Country Club golf: the city's Donald Ross course, rates and passes

Fort Myers Country Club golf is a City of Fort Myers municipal course, open to everyone, on McGregor Blvd near downtown. Donald Ross designed it, and it opened in 1917. In November 2026 a round costs $70 with cart before noon and $35 after 3pm, or $20 walking late. Book on foreUP up to 7 days ahead.

It is the oldest and most historic public round in this part of Florida, and one of the cheapest real courses on the map. This guide covers the rates by time of day and season, how booking works, the new rules on riders and kids, what happened to annual passes, and where to stay. Facts are from the city course page, read November 3, 2026; the city posts one month of rates at a time, so check before you go.

Who can play Fort Myers Country Club golf

The name sounds private, but Fort Myers Country Club is owned by the city and open to all. Groups of two or more must reserve a tee time. Single players may walk on.

Two rules catch visitors out. Children under 6 are not allowed on the course. And from October 15, 2026, non-playing riders are not allowed, so a spouse who just wants to ride along cannot come out. Dress is proper golf attire, with no tank tops or cut-offs.

Fort Myers Country Club rates

The city posts one month at a time. November 2026 is on the city page; the summer figures come from a greenfeetracker copy of the city's off-season sheet.

Time Nov 1-30, 2026, with cart Nov 2026, walking May 11-Sep 30, 2026, with cart Summer 2026, walking
7am to noon$70$45$45$30
Noon to 3pm$55$35$35$25
After 3pm$35$20$30$20

November rates include tax. January to April rates had not been posted when checked, and the research expects them to sit above November. Rates were seen November 2026 and change month to month.

The research's tip: walk it after 3pm in November for $20, about the cheapest Donald Ross round in the area. For more of the lowest fees between Naples and Fort Myers, see cheap golf in Naples and Naples golf rates.

Booking a tee time

Tee times open 7 days ahead on foreUP. Phone booking only reaches one day out, and lines open at 8am. In January to April, when snowbirds fill the Fort Myers tee sheets, book online the moment your date opens. Our Naples tee times guide compares booking windows across the area; the 7-day window here is short next to the 90 days at Saltleaf Golf Preserve.

Annual passes and memberships

This is the part that has changed. The city FAQ says new memberships are not being offered at this time. Gulf Shore Business reported in 2025 that city annual passes for Fort Myers Country Club and Eastwood were going up, with a resident nine-month pass at $1,200 for people who signed up after 2022. For a visitor arriving this winter, though, there is no pass to buy here: you pay the daily rate.

If you want a seasonal pass on a city course, Coral Oaks Golf Course in Cape Coral still sells them. Its passes, read November 3, 2026:

Coral Oaks pass Price
Unlimited Golf Pass (green fees and cart)$5,190 single, $9,735 dual
Annual Season Pass (pay cart only)$2,090 single, $4,070 dual, plus tax
9-Month Play Pass (excludes Jan-Mar, 20% off daily fee then)$1,200 plus tax

The course

It is a short par 70, 6,780 yards from the Black tees, but it rates 72.9/131 from there, and the research puts it at 3 out of 5. Other tees run Blue 6,265, White 5,910, Gold 5,550, Red 4,975 and Green 3,930 yards. Ratings for those tees were not published in the files, and the yardages come from an aggregator.

Blue6,265not published
White5,910not published
Gold5,550not published
Red4,975not published
Green3,930not published

The setting is the draw. The course is on McGregor Blvd about a mile from the Edison and Ford Winter Estates, and the city says Edison and Ford played it in the 1920s. Third-party listings credit a renovation by Steve Smyers; the year was not confirmed. Keep expectations at municipal conditioning, as the research puts it.

There is a pro shop and PGA lessons, plus a women's association on Tuesdays, a men's association on Wednesdays, and FlingGolf. The city page publishes no overseed or aerification dates. Open the Fort Myers Country Club course guide for the hole map.

Pair it with Eastwood

Eastwood Golf Course is the city's second course, off Ortiz Ave, on the same rate structure and the same 7-day foreUP window. It is longer, over 7,100 yards from the Black tees at 72.5/131, and more wooded, with a newly remodelled range. Two city rounds on one trip, one historic and one long, is the obvious plan. Read the Eastwood golf course guide or open the Eastwood course guide.

When to play

November and December are shoulder season, with dry weather and the posted $70 morning rate. January to April is peak, when the rates rise and tee sheets fill. Spring training adds traffic from February: the Red Sox at JetBlue Park and the Twins at Hammond Stadium both open their 2027 home schedules on February 19. The Edison Festival of Light closes roads along McGregor Blvd and downtown on parade night in February; 2027 dates were not yet published.

Summer is the cheapest time, $45 riding before noon in 2026, but afternoon thunderstorms bring lightning delays, so play early. See the best time to golf in Naples.

Where to stay

The map's two downtown Fort Myers hotels are the closest beds:

Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) is about 25 minutes and 14.2 miles from downtown Fort Myers by the research's estimate. For a full Fort Myers base, read Fort Myers golf courses, cheap hotels for Fort Myers golf and Naples vs Fort Myers golf.

Around the course

The course is a short drive from the things most visitors to Fort Myers want to see. The Edison and Ford Winter Estates, Thomas Edison's and Henry Ford's riverfront winter homes, gardens and lab, are at 2350 McGregor Blvd; admission is charged, and part of the visit is indoors, which helps on a wet afternoon. Downtown's River District has Ford's Garage at 2207 First St for burgers and beer, and Twisted Vine Bistro at 2214 Bay St.

Plan around one big weekend: ArtFest Fort Myers fills the downtown riverfront on February 5-7, 2027, and parking and restaurants are busy all weekend.

Is it worth it?

For a golfer who wants history and value, yes. It is a 1917 Donald Ross course in a city setting at municipal prices, and the late walking rate is hard to beat anywhere on the map. The trade-offs: it is nearly an hour from Naples, conditioning is municipal, the booking window is short, and there are no new passes for visitors.
