Carolina Forest golf runs along US 501 west of the Intracoastal Waterway: Myrtle Beach National's three courses, Legends' three, Man O' War and The Wizard, with World Tour closer in and Wild Wing, Burning Ridge and the Hackler Course toward Conway. King's North is the headline round, and package rates on this side ran about $60 to $160 in fall 2026.
This is the Strand's inland golf belt. You give up ocean views for a dense cluster of courses, villas at Legends and a short hop from the Broadway at the Beach hotels. Prices below were seen on November 1, 2026 and change by date and time.

Spring costs more. In Coastal Golfaway's January 2026 table for a Saturday, May 2 morning, King's North was $210 on a package and $214 booked direct, and World Tour $195 and $197.
Myrtle Beach National
Three Arnold Palmer courses share one clubhouse on National Drive, all run by Founders Group International.
- King's North is the marquee: Palmer's 1996 redesign, renovated in 2024-25 by Brandon Johnson, who expanded the greens about 36% back to their original size, regrassed them with TifEagle and rebuilt the bunkers. The par-5 6th, The Gambler, has an alternate island fairway. Golfer reviews on the Founders booking site average 4.43 out of 5 from 923, with sand volume, pace and an older clubhouse the common complaints. See the King's North course guide.
- SouthCreek is shorter and narrower at just over 6,400 yards, and suits mixed-ability groups better than King's North.
- West is open, forgiving and has no housing on the property; it is usually the cheapest of the three.
Founders rounds booked on its site include carts, and its packages add multi-round discounts and a $100 gift card after four or more Founders rounds. Our Myrtle Beach National guide compares the three.
Legends Golf & Resort
Legends has 54 holes plus the Piper par-3 course at 1500 Legends Drive off US 501, with villas on site, and it is heavily package-driven: the main booking site sells it through a Golfmaster, not its live tee sheet. No dollar rates were found in public sources.
- Heathland (1990) is Tom Doak's treeless, links-style course with pot bunkers and firm ground, often in the wind.
- Moorland (1990) is P.B. Dye's hardest course at Legends, with deep bunkers and wild greens.
- Parkland (1992) is the longest and most reviewed, at 4.39 out of 5 from 1,378 reviews; it shed nearly a third of its 110-plus bunkers in 2017.
Reviewers report cart shortages and course swaps on busy days. See the Legends Parkland course guide and our Legends golf guide.
Man O' War, The Wizard and World Tour
Man O' War (1996) is Dan Maples's course built around a 100-acre lake, with water on nearly every hole, back-to-back island greens and an island fairway. The Wizard next door, also Maples, is links-and-mounds golf with a castle-themed clubhouse, easier and less memorable. The Witch, the group's third course, closed in 2021. See the Man O' War course guide and Man O' War and The Wizard.
World Tour (1999) is a replica course with versions of famous holes, including an Amen Corner stretch. First-timers tend to enjoy it, and 2026 reviews describe slow summer pace and tired conditions.
Toward Conway
- Wild Wing Avocet: a 1993 Larry Nelson and Jeff Brauer course restored by Brauer from May to September 2026, with greens back to original size and regrassed to Tif3D bermuda, all bunkers rebuilt and a new clubhouse. Expect a new scorecard. The nine-hole Hummingbird course stayed open through the work.
- Burning Ridge: a 1980 Gene Hamm locals' course on US 501, cheap, with uneven conditions reported in spring 2026.
- The Hackler Course: owned by Coastal Carolina University and home to its PGA Golf Management program, formerly Quail Creek.
- Shaftesbury Glen: a 2001 Clyde Johnston course on the SC 90 side near Conway, well kept with a 140 slope from the blues. It suits groups based in North Myrtle Beach or Carolina Forest.
Inland weather and winter turf
Inland golf plays warmer by day and colder at dawn. NOAA's 1991-2020 normals at Conway give a January high of 58.1F and low of 35.2F, against 55.7F and 36.7F at the North Myrtle Beach airport, so frost delays on clear winter mornings are likely. April averages 75.8F by day, and July 90.8F, which is why summer tee times out here should be early.
Winter colour varies by course. King's North and Wild Wing Avocet were both named among wall-to-wall rye overseed courses for winter 2025-26, though Wild Wing's new Tif3D greens went in in July 2026 and whether they get overseeded is unknown. A course review says all three Myrtle Beach National courses go through overseeding. Man O' War and The Wizard were wall to wall in winter-spring 2024, with current practice unconfirmed. Elsewhere, expect dormant, tan bermuda that still plays. Read Myrtle Beach golf winter conditions for the full picture and Myrtle Beach weather by month for the coastal normals.
Founders Group's courses here, Myrtle Beach National and Wild Wing, can be booked together with its other courses; see Founders Group golf courses in Myrtle Beach.
Closed and unclear on this side
The corridor has lost several courses: The Witch (last day November 21, 2021), River Oaks (closed late 2025 for housing), Burning Ridge's West course (2005) and Wild Wing's Falcon and Wood Stork courses (mid-2000s). Conway Golf & Country Club's status is unclear; call first. See closed golf courses in Myrtle Beach.
Where to stay for Carolina Forest golf
Legends' villas have 2- and 3-bedroom units with kitchens and washer-dryers, an on-site pub and a practice area, 3 minutes from Moorland, 15 from Burning Ridge and 19 from King's North. They are inland, with little to walk to at night.
The other choice is Broadway at the Beach. The Fairfield Inn is 12 minutes from World Tour and 18 from King's North, and the Hampton Inn nearby is 19 from King's North, with restaurants and Topgolf a walk away. Guest-reported Hampton stays averaged $118.56 a night in January 2026 and $262.78 in March 2026.
For an evening in Conway, Rivertown Bistro sits downtown near the Riverwalk. The US 501 Tanger outlet centre is near Carolina Forest.

Questions golfers ask
What golf courses are in Carolina Forest?
Our research places Myrtle Beach National's three courses (King's North, SouthCreek and West) and the Man O' War and Wizard pair in Carolina Forest off US 501. Legends' three courses and World Tour are on the same corridor, and Wild Wing Avocet, Burning Ridge and the Hackler Course are toward Conway.
How far is Carolina Forest golf from the beach?
From the SkyWheel, World Tour is about 12 minutes, Myrtle Beach National 19, Legends 24 to 25 and Man O' War and The Wizard 33, free-flow. US 501 through Carolina Forest and over the Intracoastal Waterway is the Strand's most congested entry road, especially on summer Saturdays, so allow extra time.
Which US 501 course is the best?
King's North at Myrtle Beach National, an Arnold Palmer course renovated in 2024-25 with greens expanded about 36% and regrassed with TifEagle. It keeps the island-fairway par-5 6th, The Gambler. A package operator listed it at $136 to $160 for November 1, 2026.
What are the cheapest courses on US 501?
The Hackler Course at Coastal Carolina University was $60 to $80 on package rates for October 12, 2026, and Myrtle Beach National West $56 to $79 for July 14, 2026. Burning Ridge had a $46 plus tax group rate for an ASGA outing on January 17, 2026.
Can you stay at Legends Golf & Resort?
Yes. Legends has 2- and 3-bedroom villas with kitchens around the Parkland course, 3 minutes from Moorland and 5 from Parkland. Packages bundle the villas with Legends rounds; Golfbreaks showed packages from $505 including taxes and resort fees, with nights and rounds not stated.
Is The Witch golf course still open?
No. The Witch Golf Links on SC 544 near Conway closed after its last day on November 21, 2021, when its owner sold it, citing flooding. River Oaks on the US 501 corridor closed permanently in late 2025 for housing.
Is Conway Golf & Country Club open to the public?
Its status is unclear, so call first (843-365-3621). Listings call it semi-private, one says it is nine holes, and no 2026 evidence was found either way. It is not on our map.
