Guide emblem: Los Lagos golf in Edinburg: status, rates and what Troon changes

Los Lagos golf in Edinburg is open. It is the city's 2001 Robert von Hagge municipal course: 7,188 yards from the Black tees with a 132 slope, water on 11 or 12 holes and Teesnap booking. No current rate card was published in October 2026, recent reviews are weak, and Troon takes over operations from late 2026.

That mix makes Los Lagos the most interesting course to watch in the west Valley this winter. The layout is the strongest public test near McAllen; the upkeep has been the problem. This guide sets out what is confirmed, what is not, and how to decide whether to book.

What the Troon takeover means

The city chose Troon in September 2026 to operate Los Lagos for Edinburg. The research does not say what Troon plans to change, and no new rates or maintenance programme had been published. The honest reading for a winter visitor:

  • Expect possible changes to rates, booking rules and memberships from late 2026.
  • Read the most recent reviews before booking, since older complaints may not reflect the new operation.
  • If you plan to buy a membership for the season, ask whether existing prices will hold under Troon.

Los Lagos rates

No current rate card could be read in October 2026. What exists:

  • A GolfPass reviewer cites a $26 twilight rate with a cart (undated).
  • The city has a memberships page; prices were not read.
  • No senior or Winter Texan rate is published in our research.

Check the live price on Teesnap when you book, or call the pro shop. For a sense of what nearby city courses charge, Tierra del Sol in Pharr listed $26 walking and $41 with a cart in October 2026, and Champion Lakes in McAllen $33 for 18 plus a $14 cart. Our Rio Grande Valley golf rates guide has the full comparison.

The Los Lagos course

Los Lagos opened in 2001, designed by Robert von Hagge (von Hagge, Smelek and Baril). It is a long, links-style layout built around 11 acres of lakes.

Feature Detail

Black tees7,188 yds, 74.2 / 132
Waterin play on 11 or 12 holes
Bunkersmore than 75
Turfbermuda greens and fairways
Signature hole14th, a par 3 over water, 130 to 160 yards

Forward tee yardages and ratings were not available in our sources. From the Blacks, Los Lagos is the longest and toughest public layout on the west side. If you are not a low handicapper, ask the pro shop which forward set suits you. The water makes the round expensive in golf balls, so bring a few extra. The Los Lagos course guide shows the lakes on the 3D map.

Practice

There is a lit driving range and a short-game area with putting, chipping and a practice bunker. Putter's Grill and a golf shop are on site. See our driving range in McAllen guide for other practice facilities.

Booking Los Lagos golf in Edinburg

Book on Teesnap or call. The booking window is not published. Peak Winter Texan season runs roughly November to March, and morning times are hardest to get from January to mid-March. GolfPass reviewers mention slow pace and short cart supply, so an early tee time is the best way to keep the round moving. Our Rio Grande Valley tee times guide covers booking at the other courses.

Winter weather is kind to Los Lagos. NOAA normals at McAllen show highs of about 80.2F in November, 72.8F in January and 77.4F in February, with low rainfall. Valley courses are bermuda, and after a hard freeze or a run of cold fronts fairways can go tan for weeks; course-level overseed practice at Los Lagos is not recorded.

Should you play Los Lagos golf in Edinburg this winter?

It depends on what you want from the round.

  • Play it if you want the hardest public layout on the west side, you enjoy water carries, and you can get an early tee time. The signature hole is the par-3 14th over water.
  • Check first if conditions matter more to you than design. The GolfPass score of 1.9 from 72 reviews is driven by upkeep, pace and carts rather than the course itself. Look at reviews dated after Troon takes over before committing a whole season.
  • Skip it for now if you want an easy, cheap daily round. Ebony Hills in Edinburg, Shary in Mission or Tierra del Sol in Pharr are simpler choices for that.

For a group of mixed abilities, a fair plan is one round at Los Lagos in a week and the rest on easier courses. Our snowbird golf schedule shows how to build that kind of rotation.
