Ebony Hills Golf Course in Edinburg is open. It is the city's 9-hole municipal course, a par 35 of 3,022 yards designed by John Bredemus in 1927, and you book it on Teesnap. A new clubhouse is under construction until about summer 2027, Troon takes over management from late 2026, and no rate card is posted.
The city calls Ebony Hills one of its most popular courses with Winter Texans, and the reason is simple: nine easy holes under ebony trees, close to town, at a price the city describes as very affordable. The construction
KRGV reported that a $7.2 million clubhouse and workforce-center project broke ground on August 10, 2026. The plans include a new two-story clubhouse, four golf simulators, a larger cart barn and automated irrigation. Until it is finished, around summer 2027, the course runs from an auxiliary facility.
For a visitor this winter, that means:
- Expect a temporary check-in and fewer clubhouse services through the 2026-27 season.
- Expect construction activity near the clubhouse, though the holes stay in play.
Ebony Hills rates
No current rate card was found in October 2026, and the city only describes the course as very affordable. Rental carts are available. With Troon taking over management, the price could change during the winter, so check Teesnap at booking.

The course
Ebony Hills is an old municipal nine lined with ebony trees, with four sets of tees. From the back it is 3,022 yards at par 35. The city lists a 67.7 rating and 107 slope, which is probably an 18-hole equivalent; GolfNow shows 34.9 and 111 for the nine. Either way it is a gentle course and a good fit for:
- A short round on a day when you have other plans.
- Seniors and mixed groups who want an easy walk or ride.
- Warming up for a week of 18-hole rounds.
- A late-afternoon nine when the long courses are full.
Its 1927 opening makes it one of the oldest courses in the Valley. The Ebony Hills course guide shows the nine holes on the 3D map.
Booking Ebony Hills Golf Course in Edinburg
Book on Teesnap. The window is not published. Winter is the busy season: Winter Texans fill the Valley from roughly November to March, and morning tee times are hardest to get from January to mid-March. December days are short, which compresses tee sheets. Because the course is popular with Winter Texans, book a few days ahead for a morning nine, and see our Rio Grande Valley tee times guide for the other courses.
Weather
NOAA normals at McAllen show November at about 80.2F highs and 60.1F lows, January about 72.8F and 52.7F, and February about 77.4F and 56.9F. January brings the odd cold front that holds highs in the 50s for a day or two, which is a good day for a short nine rather than a full 18. From June to August, highs run about 97F to 99.6F, so play at first light. Our best time to golf in the Rio Grande Valley guide has the month-by-month view.
Ebony Hills and Los Lagos in one day
Ebony Hills and Los Lagos are both City of Edinburg courses, both on Teesnap and both moving to Troon. That makes them an easy pair:
- Morning: 18 at Los Lagos, the 7,188-yard von Hagge water course (74.2 / 132 from the Blacks). Book early for pace. See the Los Lagos course guide and our Los Lagos golf Edinburg guide.
- Afternoon: an easy nine at Ebony Hills if you still have the legs.
If you want nine holes on other days, Shary in Mission has a third nine beside its main 18 and is lit for night golf until an 11 PM last tee time. See the Shary course guide. Our par 3 golf in the Rio Grande Valley guide covers short courses and executive nines across the Valley.
What to ask before a winter at Ebony Hills
Because so little is published, a short checklist saves a wasted trip. When you book on Teesnap or speak to staff at the temporary facility, ask:
- The current 9-hole and replay rates, walking and with a rental cart.
- Whether a season card, punch card or membership is sold, and whether it covers Los Lagos too, since both are city courses.
- Whether prices will change when Troon takes over from late 2026.
- How far ahead you can book morning times in January to March.
- Whether private carts are allowed and, if so, the trail fee.
- What is open at the temporary facility: restrooms, drinks and a place to pay.
None of these answers were in the published sources in October 2026. If you are planning a full season of nines, our Rio Grande Valley golf passes guide lists the courses that do publish season deals, such as Tierra del Sol's 3-month package and Shary's annual green fee.
