The Convention Center area (best all-round)
For most golfers asking where to stay in McAllen for golf, this is the default answer. South Ware Road runs straight down to Champion Lakes, McAllen's city course (formerly Palm View), and Expressway 83 is a block away for the run west to Mission or east to Pharr.
La Quinta Inn & Suites McAllen Convention Center is the value pick: about 1.5 miles up the same road as Champion Lakes, with free breakfast, free parking, a fridge and microwave in rooms, guest laundry and a free airport shuttle listed. Kayak showed it from $108 for a Monday night in early November, with rooms up to $195. It is pet-friendly, with charges that may apply.
Embassy Suites by Hilton McAllen Convention Center is the group pick and the best-reviewed big hotel in McAllen in our research. Every room is a two-room suite (2 queens or a king), with free cooked-to-order breakfast, an evening reception and free parking. Kayak listed a Sunday night in early November from $112, with a range up to $321.
Both hotels sit by the convention center, so convention weeks fill rooms and lift rates. Check the convention calendar before you book. Champion Lakes is home to about thirty Winter Texan leagues, so plan on twilight ($37 with cart from 2 PM) if winter mornings are full.
Downtown McAllen (best for evenings)
Casa de Palmas, Trademark Collection by Wyndham is the historic Spanish-style hotel on Main Street, long known as the Renaissance Casa de Palmas. It is now a Wyndham Trademark, so Marriott points no longer apply. Rooms surround a palm courtyard and pool, parking is free, and you can walk to the 17th Street bars and restaurants. Kayak showed it from $94 on a Sunday in early November, up to $361 for a deluxe king. It is an older building, breakfast terms are unclear, and sources disagree on 3 or 4 PM check-in.

Mission (best for Shary)
If Shary Municipal is your main course, for its $21 walking rate or its lit night golf, stay on the Mission side.
Hampton Inn & Suites Mission is the dependable choice: free hot breakfast with a grab-and-go bag Monday to Friday for early tee times, free parking and an outdoor pool. Some guests found no fridge or microwave in their room, so ask. Kayak showed it from $91 on a Wednesday. Shary is about 8 minutes away and Champion Lakes about 7.
La Quinta Inn & Suites Mission at West McAllen is the cheapest branded option near Shary, from $81 on a Saturday night. It has free breakfast and a fridge and microwave, but reviews are only fair, with reports of the pool and laundry out of service. The Shary course guide has the course details.
Edinburg (best for Los Lagos and Ebony Hills)
Holiday Inn Express & Suites Edinburg-McAllen Area sits on Business 281 between McAllen and Edinburg. It is about 4 minutes from Ebony Hills and 7 from Los Lagos, Edinburg's long von Hagge water course, and about 16 from Champion Lakes and 16 from Monte Cristo. Weekday rooms started at $90. Pharr (for Tierra del Sol)
None of the hotels in our research are in Pharr itself, but Tierra del Sol is 15 to 19 minutes from every McAllen and Mission hotel above.
