Scorecard: Llano Grande golf in Mercedes: the park course and who can play

Llano Grande golf in Mercedes means an 18-hole, par-72 course built into the Llano Grande Lake Park Resort, a 55+ RV and mobile-home park. It is open to the public, tee times were from $18.99 on GolfNow in October 2026, and resort residents can buy seasonal or annual memberships. Conditions draw complaints, so set expectations.

That makes it one of the cheapest 18-hole rounds in the Rio Grande Valley and the only full-length course with a large RV resort wrapped around it in the middle of the Valley. This guide covers who can play, what it costs, how to book, and when Llano Grande is the right call versus the better-kept courses nearby.

Who can play Llano Grande golf in Mercedes

The course belongs to the resort, but it is not a residents-only course. Research listings describe it as open to the public, with a choice of paying per round or becoming a member. That puts it in a different group from the small par-3 courses inside other Valley RV parks, most of which are meant for park guests.

In practice there are three kinds of player:

  1. Resort residents and guests. They live on the course for the winter, play in leagues and group games, and are the main market for the memberships.
  2. Winter Texans staying elsewhere. The course is central, so players based in Weslaco, Donna or Mercedes can add it to a weekly rotation.
  3. Visitors on a short trip. You can book a tee time like any public course. Just know what you are getting.

The resort says it runs leagues, group play and tournaments. In peak season (roughly November to March), assume the morning tee sheet is shaped around that resident play and book ahead.

What Llano Grande costs

The green fee is low by Valley standards. For comparison, Pharr's city course is $26 to walk and $41 with a cart, and McAllen's Champion Lakes is $33 to walk. Our guide to cheap golf in the Rio Grande Valley puts those numbers side by side, and Rio Grande Valley golf passes covers the membership side.

Cart terms were not published for Llano Grande, so ask whether the GolfNow price includes one.

The course itself

Llano Grande is a flat 18 that weaves through the resort's RV and mobile-home sections. GolfPass credits the design to John Aguillon and lists an opening year of 1928, which would make it one of the older courses in the Valley. Its best-known hole is an island-green par 3.

Tee Yards Par Rating / slope
Black6,78172Not published
Blue6,38772Not published

At 6,387 yards from the blues it is a normal length for most Winter Texan groups. With no published slope, judge it by the yardage and the ground: flat, with homes and sites close to play.

Conditions

Be honest with yourself here. Recent reviews from late 2025 and 2026 complain of bare fairways and uneven greens. Valley courses are warm-season bermudagrass, and after a hard freeze or a run of cold fronts fairways can go tan and semi-dormant for weeks. That is general Valley guidance, not something checked at Llano Grande for 2026, but it is worth asking the pro shop about current conditions before a midwinter round.

The Llano Grande course guide has the map view and hole layout.

How to book a Llano Grande tee time

  • GolfNow sells tee times; that is where the $18.99 price was seen.
  • Chronogolf is named on the resort's own listing for online tee times.
  • Phone: sources disagree. The resort listing gives 956-284-6100 for golf; GolfPass lists 956-565-3351 and 800-565-2638.

The booking window is not published. In winter, treat any course in the Valley as a book-early course, since January to mid-March is when morning times are hardest to get.

Staying at Llano Grande

The resort is the reason most people play the course. It has more than 300 RV sites plus rental park models, cottages and apartments, and it is open year-round.

What the rate card showed on October 26, 2026 (the card is not dated):

  • RV sites: $58-$90.64 a night, $314.19-$500 a week, or $795-$1,395 a month plus metered electric depending on section.
  • Rentals: park model, cottage or apartment at $2,889 a month, electric separate, with internet, water and trash included.
  • Fees: $25 one-time registration plus a $4.50 transaction fee.
  • Deposit: $700 at booking, non-refundable inside 60 days of arrival.

Beyond golf there are 3 pools, 3 hot tubs, 2 fitness centers, 12 pickleball courts, 2 tennis courts and an event center. The office takes bookings Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 4, or online through Newbook.

If you want golf on site, the alternatives are few. River Bend near Brownsville is the other park with its own 18. Our guide to RV resorts with golf in the Texas Valley compares them, and Rio Grande Valley monthly rentals covers park models and condos if you are not bringing an RV.

Where Llano Grande fits in a winter rotation

Llano Grande is cheap and close if you live there, but most players will want a better-kept course in the mix each week. From the resort, routed drive times are:

Course Drive from Llano Grande Resort
Llano Grande Golf Course6 min
Tierra Santa (Weslaco)18 min
Tony Butler (Harlingen)26 min
Champion Lakes (McAllen)32 min
Tierra del Sol (Pharr)33 min
Treasure Hills (Harlingen)33 min

Tierra Santa is the natural partner. It is the best-reviewed public course in the mid-Valley (GolfPass 4.5 from 105 reviews), a 1997 Jeff Brauer and Steve Elkington layout at 7,139 yards from the back, with GolfNow times from about $24 in October 2026. See the Tierra Santa course guide and our Tierra Santa golf in Weslaco post.

Tony Butler, Harlingen's 27-hole city course, is the other easy add. A Valley Morning Star report put its green fee with cart at $36, though the article's year is not shown, so confirm it. The Tony Butler course guide has the details.

A simple week from the resort: two or three rounds at Llano Grande, one at Tierra Santa, one in Harlingen. Our snowbird golf schedule builds that out.

Mid Valley Golf Club, also listed in Mercedes, is status unclear, call first.

When to play

Llano Grande is open year-round. November and February are standout golf months in the Valley: McAllen normals put November at about 80F highs and February at about 77F, with low rainfall. January averages about 73F, but it is the month of cold fronts that can hold highs in the 50s for a day or two. March to May is the windiest stretch, averaging about 11.5 to 12.4 mph.

Summer is hot and humid, with highs near 99F in July and August, and hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30. If you are in Mercedes then, play at dawn. Our best time to golf in the Rio Grande Valley guide goes month by month.

Is Llano Grande worth it?

Yes, if you are staying at the resort or close by and want an easy, low-cost round you can walk out to. It is less convincing as a destination round for a short trip, given the condition complaints. For a trip of three or four days, put your rounds on the better-reviewed courses and use Llano Grande as the budget extra. Our list of Rio Grande Valley golf courses shows every option open to visitors.
