Scorecard: Treasure Hills Golf Harlingen: status, access and rates

Treasure Hills golf in Harlingen is open to the public: a daily-fee 18 on the east side of town, on GolfNow and TeeOff in October 2026. The club has been for sale, but the listing said it would keep operating. The only rate we found is about $40. From the Blue tees it plays 6,960 yards, with a 74.8 rating.

Treasure Hills is Harlingen's longer public course and its stronger test, but the club publishes very little. This guide sets out its status, who can play, what a round costs, how to book and how it fits with Harlingen's city course and Rancho Viejo. Treat every price as a guide and confirm before you go.

Treasure Hills golf Harlingen status: is it open?

Yes, as far as the evidence goes. In October 2026 the course appeared on the Visit Harlingen golf page and on GolfNow and TeeOff booking pages, and we found no closure news. A Fairways Advisors sale listing said the club would keep operating during the sale.

The gaps matter, though. The official website returned an empty page when checked, and we did not see live tee times confirmed. The current owner after the sale is unknown. So the practical advice is to check that times are showing on a booking site, or call, before you drive out.

The sale

Per an undated Club + Resort Business report, the owner, ViRaj Golf, made upgrades to the course and then put the 189-acre club up for sale through Fairways Advisors. We could not confirm whether a sale has closed. A change of owner can bring new rates, memberships or upkeep standards, for better or worse, so recent reviews are worth a look before you book.

Who can play

Treasure Hills is a daily-fee course open to the public, per listings. It is lined with housing, but you do not need to live there or be a member. Tee times are sold through TeeOff and GolfNow. Membership options, Winter Texan rates and senior rates were not published in our sources.

The $40 figure came from a local report about Tony Butler raising its own rate to $36 with a cart, in which the city's manager compared his prices with Treasure Hills. It is a rough guide only. Booking sites show the live price for a given time, and they are the quickest way to check. Our Rio Grande Valley golf rates guide compares fees across the Valley.

The course

Treasure Hills is a housing-lined course on the east side of Harlingen and the longest public layout in town. The listed back tees are 6,960 yards, though some sources give 6,788, so check the card on the first tee. The 74.8 rating from the Blue tees is higher than Los Lagos' 74.2 from more than 200 yards longer, though the slope was not published. One listing credits Robert Trent Jones Sr. as the designer, with an opening year of 2000; that conflicts with his death the same year, and we could not verify it.

Only one tee set was in our data, so shorter options and women's ratings need checking at the course. If your group mixes handicaps, ask which forward tees are in use before you book; at 6,960 yards and a 74.8 rating, the back tees are a lot of golf for most Winter Texan foursomes. The Treasure Hills course guide shows the layout on our 3D map. Turf, overseeding and green speeds were not published.

How to book

  1. Check TeeOff or GolfNow for the date you want. If times show, the course is taking bookings.
  2. Call 956-365-3100 if you need a group time, a rate for a season or a cart policy.
  3. Book early for January to mid-March, when Winter Texans fill the Valley's tee sheets. The booking window was not published.

Treasure Hills vs Tony Butler

Harlingen's two public courses are each about 8 minutes from the Hampton Inn, and they suit different days.

Best forA longer testA cheap, quick regular round

Tony Butler is the busy Winter Texan staple, with about 40,000 rounds a year. Treasure Hills is the round for the better players in the group. For a Harlingen week, a sensible split is Tony Butler on most days and Treasure Hills once or twice, with Rancho Viejo for variety. See the Tony Butler course guide, our Tony Butler golf course post and the wider Harlingen golf courses guide.

Adding Rancho Viejo

Rancho Viejo is about 24 minutes from Treasure Hills on our estimate, and El Diablo there is the other big test on the east side, with water on about half the holes. A Treasure Hills and El Diablo pair makes a strong two days for a group. Our Rancho Viejo golf guide covers access, and the best golf courses in the Rio Grande Valley ranks them all.

Where to stay

  • Hampton Inn & Suites Harlingen: about 8 minutes (3.7 miles), with free breakfast, laundry and a fridge in every room; from $97 on a Sunday in early November 2026 (seen October 2026; rates change).
  • Fun-N-Sun RV Resort, San Benito: about 14 minutes, a large 55+ park with rates by phone.
  • Rancho Viejo Resort: about 24 minutes, with villas on El Diablo.

Groups should look at the buddies golf trip guide for room and tee-time planning.

When to play

Like the rest of the Valley, Treasure Hills is at its best and busiest from November to March. NOAA normals at McAllen put November highs around 80F and January around 73F, and the Harlingen-Brownsville side gets a little more drizzle and fog when cold fronts pass. Tee sheets fill by Thanksgiving week (November 26, 2026), and January to mid-March is the peak. After Easter, March 28, 2027, the winter crowd leaves and times open up. Summer is hot and humid, and hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30.

Questions to ask when you call

Because so little is published, ask these when you call or book:

  • Today's rate, with and without a cart, and any twilight rate.
  • Whether there is a winter, senior or multi-round rate.
  • Which tees are in play and their yardages.
  • Whether the sale has changed anything, such as memberships or booking rules.
  • How far ahead you can book, and the cancellation policy on GolfNow and TeeOff.

Plan it on the map

Open the Rio Grande Valley golf map to see Treasure Hills golf in Harlingen alongside Tony Butler, Rancho Viejo and the nearby hotels, with drive times between them. The $30 plan can build a short east-side trip around it, or include it in a whole winter stay with a weekly rotation.
