Cover: Couples Golf Trip Gulf Shores Guide: Forward Tees, Quiet Stays and What It Costs for Two

For a couples golf trip, Gulf Shores works best when you pick a quiet base, keep drives under 20 minutes, and choose courses with well-rated forward tees, such as Gulf Shores Golf Club, Craft Farms and Lost Key. Public green fees seen in October 2026 ran about $55 to $226 per player, and afternoon rates cut that sharply.

Two golfers who play from different tees need different things than a buddies group. This guide covers the courses that work from both ends of the tee box, the stays couples like on the Alabama Gulf Coast, what to do if one of you doesn't play, and real costs for two. Drive times are free-flow road estimates. Fees were seen in October 2026 and change.

Quick facts

  • Closest regulation course to the beach: Gulf Shores Golf Club, 7 minutes from central Gulf Shores.
  • Shortest rated tees in the area: Craft Farms Cotton Creek Red Senior, 3,910 yards.
  • Adults-only pool: The Lodge at Gulf State Park (21+).
  • Golf resort with a spa: the Grand Hotel, Point Clear, about 51 minutes from Gulf Shores.
  • Non-golfer cart rider fee: $15 at Lost Key.
  • Best months: October (highs about 79F) and March to May.
  • Airport: Pensacola (PNS), about 69 minutes from Gulf Shores.

Couples golf trip Gulf Shores checklist

Before you book anything, settle four things:

  1. Who plays which tees. Check that both of you have a rated tee that fits. Some courses here have a big gap between the forward tees and the next set.
  2. How far you want to drive. Gulf Shores golf sits in three clusters: Fort Morgan Road to the west, the Hwy 59 corridor in the middle, and the Florida line to the east. A central base keeps most of it within 35 minutes.
  3. Morning or afternoon. Twilight rates on the Alabama Gulf Coast are large: about $30 to $40 off per player at Kiva Dunes after 1 or 2 pm. Two people saving $70 a round adds up over a long weekend.
  4. What the non-golf half of the day looks like. Beach, spa, or a walkable dinner. That decides the hotel more than the golf does.

Which Gulf Shores courses have the best forward tees?

All ratings below are USGA ratings (checked October 22, 2026). The women's rating and slope are shown for the forward tees, with the next set up for comparison.

Kiva DunesRed5,00670.0 / 123Green, 5,495 (72.8 / 129)

Craft Farms has the most range: two Arnold Palmer 18s from one clubhouse, each with a Red Senior tee around 4,000 yards. Cypress Bend has water on nearly every hole, though, so the shorter course is not the easier one. The USGA rates it higher than Cotton Creek at every tee. See the Cypress Bend course guide.

Kiva Dunes is the area's top-ranked public course (Golf Digest #13 in Alabama, 2025-26), but its shortest tee is 5,006 yards with a 123 slope, and the holes run east-west, so the Gulf breeze crosses nearly every fairway. A partner who plays from the forwards should know that before you book the most expensive round of the trip. If one of you is newer to the game, our guide to easy golf courses in Gulf Shores for high handicappers ranks every course by slope.

For the stronger player in the pair, the same courses stretch out: Lost Key slopes 143 from the 6,801-yard Black tees and Kiva Dunes 142 from 7,122. You can each get the round you want on the same tee sheet.

The Lodge is the default for a couples golf trip in Gulf Shores if you want the beach. It sits on a quiet stretch of state-park beach next to the Gulf State Park Pier, has a 21+ pool beside the family pool, and the hotel says partying is not allowed. Perch, the Gulf-view restaurant and bar, is on site. One note: ignore any listing that mentions a Gulf State Park golf course. It closed permanently in December 2018.

The Grand Hotel is the golf-resort option, with the Lakewood Club's Azalea and Dogwood 18s on property and a free shuttle to the first tee. Its "Grand Golf Escape" package (a room plus two rounds, one on each course) is listed through December 31, 2026. Men need a collared shirt in the dining rooms. Our Lakewood Azalea vs Dogwood guide helps you pick the course; Azalea is the friendlier of the two, at a 131 slope from the tips against Dogwood's 141.

Kiva Dunes condos suit couples who want golf first. Kiva Lodge and Kiva Village condos overlook the course, renters who book direct get discounted golf and preferred tee times outside peak golf season, and the Kiva Beach Club (pool, beach and restaurant) is open to guests from March to November. Cancel 30 days ahead for a refund.

Here is the green-fee math for a couples golf trip. Gulf Shores public rates below were seen in October 2026 and are totals for two players (cart included; Lost Key adds 7.5% Florida tax and a 3% card fee).

Afternoon golf is the couples' friend here: you get the morning at the beach, play into the evening light, and pay less. Gulf Shores Golf Club's twilight start moves with sunset, from about 1:30 to 2 pm in the fall to 12:30 pm in early December. Our twilight golf in Gulf Shores guide lists every course's afternoon rate.

Add the room. Three nights at the Lodge's late-October "from" rate is about $723 plus $15 a night for parking. Two nights on a Grand Hotel January snapshot is about $1,180 before the 15% resort fee and tax.

What if only one of you plays golf?

That is common, and the Gulf Shores golf scene handles it better than most places.

  • Ride along. Lost Key charges non-golfing riders $15. Lakewood at the Grand Hotel is cart-only and charges non-golfer riders a cart fee (amount not published).
  • Try a par 3 together. The city-run Orange Beach Golf Center has a 9-hole par-3 course at $15 walking or $20 with a cart, with no tee times. Rental clubs are $25 for adults. Its lighted range is open until 9 pm, with $5 buckets.
  • Take a lesson. Gulf Shores Golf Club offers lessons through Schuessler Golf Academy, Craft Farms through Jenkins Golf Academy (Kristi Jenkins, PGA/LPGA), and the Lakewood Club has lessons and clinics.
  • Split the day. The Grand Hotel has its spa, and The Beach Club has a full-service spa, sauna and steam rooms. At the Lodge, the park's roughly 28 miles of trails start at the hotel.

Dinner matters on a trip for two. The Kiva Grill at Kiva Dunes serves breakfast and lunch daily with a full bar, Lost Key's Grille 625 does a Sunday brunch, and Perdido Beach Resort has Voyagers for fine dining. Gulf Shores Golf Club's clubhouse bar has a deck over the course.

When is the best time for a couples golf trip?

October is the pick for a couples golf trip. Gulf Shores averages highs of about 79F with lows near 60F, there are about 7 rain days, and the Gulf is still around 76F for an afternoon swim (NOAA Pensacola readings, our calculation). November cools to about 70F highs with quieter tee sheets.

March to May is prime golf weather (69F to 82F highs) but it's peak season, with spring break crowds all of March and April, the highest green fees and March as the windiest month. If you want spring, our Gulf Shores golf weekend guide shows how to dodge Saturday traffic.

Winter (December and January) is mild, with highs of 61F to 64F, the lowest rates and quiet courses, though bermuda that isn't overseeded goes tan. Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon storms on 11 to 13 days a month. Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30; in October 2026 Hurricane Isaias forced a mandatory evacuation in Gulf Shores, so read cancellation terms for any August to October booking. Our best time to golf in Gulf Shores post goes month by month.

A sample long weekend for two

  • Friday: land at Pensacola, check in, and play twilight at Gulf Shores Golf Club. See the Gulf Shores Golf Club course guide.
  • Saturday: beach in the morning, then Kiva Dunes after 2 pm. Dinner at the Kiva Grill.
  • Sunday: an early round at Lost Key on the Florida side, which is on the way back toward Pensacola. See the Lost Key course guide.

That is three rounds, two of them at afternoon rates, and only one drive over 25 minutes from a central base.
