Camping on the Gulf: beachfront, near Sandestin

Camping on the Gulf on US 98 in Miramar Beach is the big beachfront park, with beachfront and interior RV sites, cabins, glamping tents and yurts. It is the closest park to the Sandestin courses: 5 minutes to the Links and Baytowne and 7 to the Raven.

The official site publishes no rates. Good Sam lists "from $145 a night" and one reviewer cites $185 to $257; a Good Sam member says its 10% discount is only given November to February. For winter, the north pool is heated and the south pool closes; there is also a hot tub, laundry and Wi-Fi.

Read the policies: a nonrefundable reservation fee equal to two nights per week of stay, full rent owed unless you cancel at least 7 days ahead, and no refund for leaving early. Pets are not allowed on beachfront sites or the beach. No monthly winter rate is published, so call 850-502-5282. Reviewers mention tight sites and tired facilities.

Destin RV Beach Resort: small and gated

Destin RV Beach Resort, off Miramar Beach Drive, has 36 concrete-pad sites with patios, full hookups (30/50 amp), Wi-Fi, a heated pool and private gated beach access. It is open all year and pet friendly.

The rules are strict. Campendium reports rigs must be 10 years old or newer, with no camper vans, pop-ups or rental RVs. The site lists maximum length as both 40 and 45 feet, so confirm. RV arrivals are 12 to 6 PM only, and one vehicle per site. Site rates are not published; guests reported $103 a night in March 2024 and $100 to $166 in earlier years.

For a winter, its two on-site condos carry the one published monthly price: a one-bedroom at $2,150 a month plus fees and taxes for November 1, 2026 to February 28, 2027, 30-night minimum. The park is 3 minutes from Seascape, a cheap nine-hole course, and 7 from the Links. See the Links course guide.

Destin West RV Resort: the Okaloosa Island option

Destin West RV Resort, on the sound side of Okaloosa Island, has 54 sites (28 motorhome and 26 towable) with full hookups, Wi-Fi and cable, laundry and a waterfront pool. Guests can use the Gulf-front Island Hotel's grotto pool, beach bar and activities across the road, which the park says is subject to change. Big rigs to 45 feet are reported, though one listing says sites are back-in only.

No rates are published. Campendium guests reported $115 to $124 a night from January to May in 2021 to 2023 and $236 a night in July 2025. Monthly rates are offered; call 850-200-4533. It has a Good Sam discount.

Golf is on the Fort Walton Beach side: Fort Walton Beach Golf Club 16 minutes, Gator Lakes 19 and Shalimar Pointe 20. See the FWB Pines course guide.

Topsail Hill Preserve State Park

Topsail Hill, at the west end of 30A by US 98, is the best-equipped state park campground on our map: 156 RV sites with full hookups (water, sewer, 30/50 amp) and cable, plus a pool, laundry, bathhouses, a camp store with bike rentals and a tram to an undeveloped beach about a mile away. Some sites take rigs to 45 feet. Wi-Fi is limited.

It costs $42 a night plus tax, a $7 nightly utility fee and a $6.70 nonrefundable reservation fee, the same all year. Reservations open up to 11 months ahead through reserve.floridastateparks.org or 800-326-3521, and reviewers say openings are hard to find months out. Baytowne is 10 minutes away and the Raven 13.

Henderson Beach State Park

Henderson Beach, on US 98 in east Destin, has 60 sites with water and 30/50 amp electric and a boardwalk to the beach. It is the cheapest beachside camping in Destin at $30 a night plus the $7 utility and $6.70 reservation fees; a guest reported paying $36 a night in March 2026.

Its status needs checking. The campground closed for a construction project from about September 2024, and the notice still shows on some park pages, but guests reported stays in March and August 2026. A day-use reservation program for park entry started May 15, 2026. Call 850-837-7550.

For golf it is the best-placed park: Indian Bayou 6 minutes, Kelly Plantation and Regatta Bay 7. See the Kelly Plantation course guide and the Indian Bayou course guide.

State park stay limits

Both state parks follow Florida State Parks rules:

  • In high demand, the maximum stay is 14 nights, then you leave for 3 nights.
  • The park manager can extend on site by up to 14 more nights, 28 continuous at most.
  • 56 nights in total per park per six-month period; October 1 to March 31 is one period.

So a state park works for a two- to four-week golf trip, not a snowbird season. A winter RVer could split time between the two parks and a private park, or look at the monthly condos in our Destin snowbird rentals guide.

Golf deals for RV snowbirds

Most winter golf deals are tied to membership or a long rental, not lodging type. Shalimar Pointe's snowbird membership runs October 1 to March 31 from $450 a month for a single golfer. Sandestin's Winter Player's Club, for 28-plus-night rentals not booked through Sandestin Rentals, gave $50 rounds at the Links and Baytowne in November and December 2026; whether an RV site counts as a qualifying rental was not stated, so ask. Gator Lakes' six-month base pass suits a Destin West stay. Our Destin winter golf guide has the full list, and the snowbird golf schedule for Destin builds rotations by base.

Season notes

January is the coolest month, with normals of 63.1F and 45.3F at the Destin airport. Spring break from early March fills the beach and backs up US 98 on Saturdays. Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30; Camping on the Gulf gives an evacuation credit valid for a year. See best time to golf in Destin, Destin hurricane season and, for winter turf at courses near the Destin RV resorts, Destin golf winter conditions.

For RV golf elsewhere on the Gulf, see Gulf Shores snowbird golf.
