Green-fee ranges: Copper Rock Golf Course in Hurricane, Utah: The Named Holes, What It Costs, and What Reviewers Say

Copper Rock golf course is a 2020 Dale Beddo design in Hurricane, Utah, about 36 minutes east of downtown St. George, with the highest men's Course Rating in the St. George area: 75.8 from the 7,283-yard Copper tees, with a 146 slope. It hosts the LPGA's Epson Tour, it is #15 on Golf Digest's 2025-26 Utah list, and its back nine has some of the biggest elevation changes in the region. What it does not have is a published green fee, and recent reviewers question whether the conditioning matches the price.

This guide goes through the course by its named holes, then sorts out the prices, the reviews, where Copper Rock sits in Hurricane, and where to stay.

Where Copper Rock sits: the far east side of Hurricane

Copper Rock is a daily-fee public course inside the Copper Rock master-planned community in Hurricane. At about 36 minutes and 22.2 miles from downtown St. George, it is the farthest drive of any St. George-area course on our map, a few minutes past Sky Mountain and Sand Hollow. It is also the highest of the Hurricane courses, at about 3,384 feet.

That puts Copper Rock east of Sand Hollow and about 4.5 road miles closer to Zion. Sky Mountain, on the west edge of Hurricane, is the closest course to the park at about 26.1 road miles. For how the three Hurricane courses compare and pair up, see our Hurricane, Utah golf guide.

The layout: a quiet valley, then the hills

The front nine sits in a flatter valley with a parkland feel. Holes 2 through 5 are themed "A wee bit of Ireland." The back nine is hillier, with big elevation changes, and the 9th and 18th are mirror images that wrap around a lake to a shared double green.

The terrain numbers show the split clearly:

Front nine Back nine
Climb, tee to green~43 ft~117 ft
Drop, tee to green~41 ft~159 ft
Biggest single change24 ft up (3rd)81 ft down (13th)

Elevation is from a terrain model of the mapped holes. Nearly all the movement is on the back. Our St. George golf elevation guide ranks the 13th among the biggest drops in the area.

A tour of the named holes

No. 4, "O' Chute": the long par 3

From the tips this par 3 plays 246 yards, the longest of the par 3s, which run from 91 to 246 yards. On the mapped layout it drops about 20 feet, which helps a little.

No. 5, "Sidewinder": 602 yards

The longest hole on the course, a 602-yard par 5 from the Copper tees, with a green about 210 feet long. It is the No. 2 handicap hole.

No. 8: the blind approach

Greater Zion describes an elevated tee against the mountainside, then a blind uphill approach. On the terrain model the green sits about 9 feet above the tee.

Nos. 9 and 18: the double green

Two mirror-image holes play around a lake to one shared green. Both are par 4s on the mapped layout (about 327 and 388 yards), and both play close to level.

No. 12: the climb

A long uphill par 5 to one of the highest points on the course, with a green that looks back at the tee. It is the biggest climb on the course, about 69 feet tee to green.

No. 13, "Down and Dirty": the hardest hole

The No. 1 handicap hole is a downhill par 4 of about 477 mapped yards. Golf Digest panelists (2025-26) describe the approach dropping sharply over trouble to a narrow green that slopes from front to back. The terrain model puts the fall at about 81 feet, one of the largest in the St. George area.

No. 17: the high point

Greater Zion calls the 17th "undoubtedly the signature": the highest point on the course, overlooking the front nine and the lakes on 9 and 18. It is a short par 3, about 136 mapped yards, dropping about 44 feet. There is a lost-ball drop option on this hole.

Copper Rock golf course tees

There are two sets of numbers in circulation. The current USGA ratings are higher than the ones printed on the course's own 2026 scorecard.

Tee Yards (USGA rated) Men, USGA (rating / slope) Women, USGA Course scorecard prints (men)
Copper7,28375.8 / 14682.5 / 15574.9 / 135
Black6,68573.1 / 14179.3 / 15372.1 / 130
Gold6,18570.6 / 13876.5 / 14769.2 / 125
Silver5,75368.7 / 13274.1 / 14267.8 / 120
White5,01165.5 / 11570.0 / 12964.5 / 110

Use the USGA numbers for your handicap. The scorecard yardages are slightly different too (7,227 from the Copper tees).

Two things stand out. The slopes stay high all the way down to Silver, and the jump from Silver to White is 742 yards. Several reviewers advise 15-plus handicaps to play forward. If the Silver tees feel long, the White tees are a very different course.

For context, Coral Canyon in Washington has a slightly steeper men's slope (148), while Copper Rock has the higher rating. Both are covered in the hardest golf courses in St. George and our Coral Canyon guide.

What reviewers say about Copper Rock golf course

The design gets credit. The upkeep and facilities get criticism.

On the course:

  • Greens are firm, multi-tiered and break more than they look. Stay below the hole.
  • Golf Digest panelists say conditioning lags the design.
  • 2025-26 GolfPass reviewers flagged conditioning and unrepaired ball marks, and raised value complaints at the $200 to $295 they paid.
  • Holes 10 and 11 run close to housing.

Off the course:

  • The permanent clubhouse has not been built. Reviewers in 2025-26 report a temporary or closed clubhouse and limited restrooms.
  • The Copper Rock Grill serves breakfast, burgers, sandwiches and beer.
  • PGA lessons run $100 to $125 for a single session.

Local rule: free relief from unmarked landscaped rock beds.

Carts have GPS screens. The course does not publish a walking policy, dress code or overseed dates, and a 2025 panelist's note of bentgrass greens and fairways is not confirmed by the course. Its Google listing showed 4.3 from 376 reviews when checked on October 12, 2026.

Booking Copper Rock tee times

  • 60 days online through the Golfscape link on the course website, or by phone.
  • Groups, or dates beyond 60 days: Group Sales, 435-359-9339.
  • Cancellation: free if 72 or more hours ahead. After that, no refund for cancellations or no-shows.

The 72-hour rule is stricter than the 24 to 48 hours at Coral Canyon, Sand Hollow and The Ledges, so plan around it. See our tee times booking guide.

When to play Copper Rock

The course's own group sheet defines its seasons: peak runs March 1 to May 31 and September 1 to November 15, and off-peak covers June to August and November 16 to February 28. In St. George terms, that off-peak window includes the hottest months (highs of about 96°F to 102°F from June to August) and the cool winter (highs around 53°F to 54°F in December and January).

Copper Rock publishes no overseed dates, so if you plan a September round, call first. Our overseed schedule covers which St. George golf courses close when. For the late-season sweet spot after overseed, see St. George golf in November.
