Chandler golf courses: Wild Horse Pass, Ocotillo, San Marcos and the Sun Lakes courses

Chandler golf courses open to visitors are Whirlwind's Cattail and Devil's Claw at Wild Horse Pass, Ocotillo's 27 holes, historic San Marcos, Lone Tree, Bear Creek's two courses, Springfield and SunBird, plus Ironwood in Sun Lakes. They sit 26 to 38 minutes from Old Town Scottsdale, and fees seen in late 2026 ran about $25 to $70.

This guide covers each course, the Sun Lakes resident courses, when Whirlwind overseeds and where to stay. Few of these courses publish rate cards, so the prices are booking-site snapshots with dates; expect more in January to April.

Chandler golf courses compared

Ocotillo's $67 comes from a GolfLink page that mixed in nearby courses, so treat it as a guide. Golf Digest lists Lone Tree at $110 (undated). Ironwood shows as active on Google Maps but no 2026 course source confirmed it, so call first.

Whirlwind at Wild Horse Pass

Whirlwind's 36 holes are tribal-owned, on Gila River Indian Community land next to the Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass, and open to the public. There are no houses on either course, which is rare this close to Phoenix, and Whirlwind is about 20 minutes from Sky Harbor.

Cattail is the pick for visitors. It hosts the LPGA Ford Championship presented by Wild Horse Pass in spring, so expect tournament-prep conditions around that week. Tees run from the 7,222-yard Black to a 5,383-yard Jade. Devil's Claw is 7,029 yards from the Black and 5,540 from the Copper. Rating and slope are not on the club's card.

Ocotillo, San Marcos and Lone Tree

Ocotillo is Arcis's 27-hole daily fee, with Blue, White and Gold nines sold as three 18-hole combinations among Ocotillo homes. Blue/Gold is the full par-72 combination; ask which nines are on the sheet. Water is in play on most holes, so bring extra balls. From the White tees women play 5,817-6,028 yards at slopes of 137-140, and the Red tees are about 5,130 yards (slope 125-128). It is on the $279 Arcis Players' Card. See the Ocotillo course guide.

San Marcos is one of Arizona's oldest courses, a 1928 Harry Collis parkland layout with mature trees in downtown Chandler, walkable to dinner. It is character over conditioning, and cheap: GolfNow showed $29.99 for September 14 and $45.99 for October 27, 2026. A MapQuest "closed" tag on it looks stale. A hotel tie-in was not confirmed. Lone Tree is a full-length 18 at the south edge of Chandler that takes public play; Visit Chandler calls it semi-private.

Bear Creek, Springfield and SunBird

• Bear Creek: a KemperSports public complex near Sun Lakes with a straightforward 18 (the Bear), an executive course (the Cub) and a big practice centre. Pricing is dynamic and rises as the sheet fills, so book early. Rental clubs are $30 for 18, juniors 17 and under get a discount, and on Sundays one junior plays free per paying adult. Pull carts on the Cub are $5.
• Springfield: a quiet executive 18 in the Springfield community with annual passes and range memberships; a snowbird habit course. No prices were found.
• SunBird: a par-66 course in the SunBird active-adult community, open to the public with pass programs; cheap and easy-going.

The Sun Lakes courses

Sun Lakes is an active-adult community south of Chandler, and most of its golf is for residents:

• Ironwood (IronOaks): reported open to the public. A blog lists a 7-day pass at $2,377 a year for residents against $2,600 for non-residents (undated).
• Cottonwood Country Club: Sun Lakes homeowners and their guests only.
• Palo Verde (Sun Lakes): a par-62 course for residents of the Sun Lakes HOAs; not on our map.
• Oakwood and Sun Lakes Country Club: status unclear, call first; not on our map.

Renting in Sun Lakes? Listings seen put furnished golf-course homes and condos at about $2,000 to $3,500 a month, with one October-December listing at $3,500 plus a 1.5% admin fee, a $3,500 deposit and $350 cleaning. Where to stay for Chandler golf

No live room rates were captured; all rise from January to April. The Sheraton Grand is a good-value full resort for a south-Valley plan rather than a Scottsdale one; the casino hotel next door is cheaper. Compare bases in where to stay in Scottsdale for golf.

After golf, Hash Kitchen on W Ray Rd does brunch and Blue 32 Sports Grill on S Arizona Ave shows the game. Chandler Fashion Center is the rainy-day fallback.

When to play Chandler golf courses

Whirlwind's dates are above. Ocotillo, San Marcos, Lone Tree and Bear Creek published no 2026 overseed dates in the records read; most Valley courses closed for two to three weeks between late September and early November, so call before an October round.
