Tahquitz Creek golf means two city-owned public courses in Palm Springs: the 1959 Legend, the town's original municipal course, and the 1995 Resort Course by Ted Robinson. Both are 8 minutes from downtown and among the cheaper full-length rounds in the valley. GolfPass showed Resort Course deals at $63.99 for November 7, 2026.

This guide compares the Legend and the Resort, gives the published rates, lists the 2026 overseed dates and covers where to stay. Prices were seen November 2, 2026 and change with season and demand.

Women's ratings from the Yellow tees: 74.5/131 on the Legend and 73.6/133 on the Resort; the Resort's White tees rate 76.0/139 for women.

The Legend is old-school Palm Springs: flat parkland golf through mature trees on the original municipal layout. It is easy walking and the gentlest of the two, with slopes in the low 120s even from the back. Reviewers treat it as a budget walk-on round rather than a showcase, and one put summer green speeds at about 8 on the stimp, so check recent reviews for green condition.

The Resort Course is the more modern design, with water in play on several holes and mountain views. It is the better of the two and a fair-priced resort-style round close to downtown.

Tahquitz Creek golf rates

The club site does not publish a Tahquitz Creek golf rate card. The figures seen:

Resort, Sat Nov 7, 2026$63.99 + $3.49 feeGolfPass hot deal, seen Nov 2, 2026
Resort, Sun Nov 8, 2026$65.99 + $3.49 feeGolfPass hot deal, seen Nov 2, 2026
Legend, late August 2026 afternoonabout $38GolfPass review, Aug 24, 2026

Peak is January to April, and summer rates drop sharply. That makes Tahquitz Creek a good value pick next to the La Quinta and Palm Desert resort courses, where peak prices run well into three figures. See cheap golf in Palm Springs and Palm Springs golf rates.

Overseed: one course open through the fall

Both courses are bermuda overseeded with rye each winter. The 2026 schedule from Arizona Golf Vacations staggers them so one is usually open:

  • Resort Course: closed September 21 to October 23 (Greenskeeper gives September 21 to October 22, reopening October 23). Expect cart path only into mid-November.
  • Legend: closed about October 23 to November 25. These dates are approximate and not confirmed on the club site.

So in November 2026 the Resort Course is the one to book, and the Legend should return around Thanksgiving. For every course's dates, read Palm Springs golf overseed.

Getting a tee time

Book either course on the club's own online portal or on GolfNow, or call 760-328-1005. The booking window is not published. GolfPass hot deals are where the early-November prices above came from, so compare the portal and GolfNow before you pay. In peak season, January to April, book as soon as you know your dates, since snowbirds fill morning times. See Palm Springs tee times.

Summer at Tahquitz Creek

Tahquitz Creek golf gets very cheap in summer: a reviewer paid about $38 for an afternoon round on the Legend on August 24, 2026. The catch is the heat. The 1991-2020 normal high at Palm Springs airport is 103.6F in June, 108.6F in July and 108.1F in August, with lows near 79F in July and August, so even first light is warm. Play at dawn, ride, carry far more water than usual and finish by late morning.

Who Tahquitz Creek suits

  • Snowbirds based in Palm Springs: a close, low-cost course for regular rounds, with the Legend easy to walk. A weekly winter rotation can use Tahquitz Creek golf for the budget days and save the pricier courses for one round a week.
  • Buddies groups on a budget: a value round to balance a splurge day at PGA West or Desert Willow.
  • Mixed groups and couples: low slopes from every tee.

It is not a destination course. If you only have one round in Palm Springs itself, Escena Golf Club, about 10 minutes from downtown, is the more complete daily-fee test, and Indian Canyons North, a 1961 Bell design under the mountains, is 7 minutes from downtown. Read Escena Golf Club and Indian Canyons golf.

Palm Springs weather for golf

Palm Springs has milder winter dawns than the east valley. The 1991-2020 normal January low at Palm Springs airport is 47.6F, against 39.0F at Thermal near La Quinta and Indio, so early tee times at Tahquitz start warmer than at the PGA West end. November averages a high of 78.7F with about 1.3 rain days. Summer is extreme: the July normal high is 108.6F, so summer golf here is a dawn activity.
