Red-rock poster: Summer golf in Naples: heat, afternoon storms, early tee times and low rates

Summer golf in Naples is the cheapest golf of the year, if you play early. From June to September, highs sit around 90F, mornings are steamy but usually dry, and thunderstorms with lightning build most afternoons. Book the first tee times of the day, expect closures for aerification, and use the summer rates and memberships.

This guide covers the summer weather on the course, how lightning stops play, what summer rounds cost, the summer passes, closures and hurricane season. Prices were seen in 2026 (dates given) and change.

Quick facts

  • Highs: about 88F in May, 90-91F from June to September (NOAA, Naples).
  • Rain: 7.4 to 8.9 in a month on 15 to 19 days, June to September.
  • Storm window: afternoons; most lightning incidents happen between about 2 and 6 pm.
  • Cheapest season card: Fort Myers city courses, $45 with cart before noon (May 11-Sep 30, 2026).
  • Hurricane season: June 1 to November 30.

NOAA 1991-2020 normals at Naples Municipal Airport and RSW. About 32.7 of Naples' 49.6 inches of annual rain falls in these four months. Inland Lee County gets heavier early-summer storms (10.3 in at RSW in June), and the wind drops to about 5 mph in July and August, so inland rounds are hot and still. Beachfront courses get a little more sea breeze on summer afternoons.

May is the spring shoulder: snowbirds are gone, rates drop, and the rains usually wait until late in the month. For a buddies trip that wants value without the daily storms, it is the best month of the warm season.

How lightning shapes summer golf in Naples

The pattern most summer days is simple: dry, steamy mornings, then sea-breeze thunderstorms building in the afternoon. A Southwest Florida TV forecast describes storms developing especially after 2 pm, and PGA safety guidance puts most lightning incidents between about 2 and 6 pm.

Florida courses commonly use lightning-detection systems with horn signals, suspending play when strikes come within a set radius. Published examples use 8 miles at a Sarasota-area course and 6 miles in Palm Beach County's system; the individual policies of Naples and Fort Myers courses were not read. Practical rules for summer golf in Naples:

  • Book the first tee time you can get, ideally before 8 am.
  • Expect at least one lightning stoppage on an afternoon round.
  • When the horn sounds, go to a building. Do not shelter under trees or in an open cart.
  • Ask about rain checks. Palmetto-Pine in Cape Coral gives an 18-hole rain check if you complete only 1 to 4 holes.

GolfNow hot deals are prepaid third-party prices, not rack rates. Compare Stoneybrook's $199 January morning rate with its $99 summer rate: summer golf in Naples costs about half of peak on that card. The Fort Myers Country Club course guide and Stoneybrook course guide have the full cards; our cheap golf in Naples guide lists more value rounds.

Summer memberships and passes

Summer is when clubs sell short memberships to locals and early-arriving snowbirds:

  • Myerlee Country Club: summer membership May 1 to September 30, 2026, $325 plus $10 cart per round, on a par-60 executive course.
  • Bonita Fairways: annual "Summer Golf Package" memberships at $550 single, $750 couple and $950 family, with 7-day booking. See the Bonita Fairways course guide.
  • Hideaway Country Club: public play May through October only, plus a summer membership (rates on the club's rate sheet).
  • Hibiscus: summer packages May 1 to October 31.
  • GreenLinks villas at Lely: one owner's unit includes free golf on the Lely courses from May 15 to October 15, cart fee extra.

Our Naples golf passes guide covers year-round options.

Summer closures and aerification

The real maintenance season in Southwest Florida is summer. Most courses aerify, verticut and topdress greens between June and September, closing for anywhere from a couple of days to several weeks, and many use the slow months for renovations. Published 2026 examples:

  • Babcock National: closed June 1-5, July 20-24 and September 8-11, and every Tuesday from June to September.
  • San Carlos Golf Club: closed Mondays from June 1 to October 12.
  • The city courses in Fort Myers and Cape Coral did not publish aerification dates; Coral Oaks pushes closures through its app.

Expect sanded, bumpy greens for one to two weeks after aerification, and avoid booking the week after a published date.

Hurricane season and red tide

Hurricane season opens June 1, and August to October is its core. Ian (September 2022) and Helene and Milton (September and October 2024) all hit in or just after the summer window. Buy trip insurance that covers named storms for any summer booking; our hurricane season golf guide covers what those storms changed. Red tide is a separate, episodic coastal problem that can close beaches for weeks; it does not stop golf. FWC's October 2026 reports showed only background levels off Lee County.

Cheap summer stays

Summer is also the cheapest time for rooms and rentals. One Glen Eagle home lists $215 a night from May 1 to August 31, 2027 (30-night minimum), against $415 in peak season. Imperial Bonita Estates RV Resort charges about $900 to $1,280 a month from May 1 to October 31, and Northtide Naples RV Resort ran a $699-a-month summer promo for first-time guests in 2026.
