Courses west to east: Laughlin vs Mesquite golf: which Nevada golf town fits your trip?

Laughlin vs Mesquite golf comes down to value against pedigree. Mesquite has Golf Digest-ranked courses and sits closer to Las Vegas, but winter rounds there started at about $109 and ran past $300 at Wolf Creek. Laughlin is warmer at dawn, cheaper to play and better set up for a winter-long stay, with fewer famous names.

Both are Nevada casino towns on the Arizona line within a drive of Las Vegas, both overseed their bermuda with rye for winter, and both deal with an Arizona clock next door. That is where the likeness ends. This guide compares rates, courses, weather, overseed, travel and lodging using the rates seen in October 2026 on our Laughlin and Mesquite maps. Prices change, so check before you book.

Laughlin-area rates come from the Laughlin map; Mesquite rates from the Mesquite map, both seen in October 2026. Several Laughlin courses, including Mojave Resort and Huukan, publish no 2026-27 rates, so they are not in the table.

The gap is wide. Laughlin Ranch is the dearest round on the Laughlin map, and it costs only a little more than Mesquite's cheapest courses. Wolf Creek, Mesquite's top-ranked course, cost more than twice as much in spring 2026. Our Laughlin golf rates guide has every Laughlin course by season, and the Laughlin Ranch course guide has its seven rate bands.

Courses and difficulty

Mesquite's strength is pedigree. Wolf Creek plays to a 147 slope from 6,785 yards, with ridge-top tees and big drops, and Conestoga is a top-20 Nevada course at 7,171 yards. Most of Mesquite's 18s sit within about 11 minutes of town on our map.

Laughlin's courses are spread along the river from Bullhead City to Needles, with Lake Havasu City about 94 minutes south. Laughlin Ranch is the one big test, at a 143 slope from 7,155 yards. Mojave Resort is a flat, windy Schmidt-Curley layout (136 slope from 6,939 yards), and the rest are friendlier: Huukan plays to a 115 slope and Rivers Edge to 117. The Mojave Resort course guide and our best golf courses in Laughlin cover them in detail. For Mesquite, see best golf courses in Mesquite.

Winter weather

Both sets are NOAA 1991-2020 normals. Laughlin's come from the Laughlin co-op station; the Mesquite map uses Beaver Dam, Arizona, about 8 miles from Mesquite.

Afternoons are about 3 degrees warmer in Laughlin, but mornings are 8 to 12 degrees warmer. Mesquite's winter lows sit near freezing, so first tee times can be held for frost and the best rounds start mid-morning. In Laughlin, January dawns average the mid-40s: cold, but usually playable. See Laughlin weather by month for the full year.

Overseed: when each town closes

Mesquite closes earlier. In 2026 its courses shut in turn from August 30 (Wolf Creek) to October 6 (Oasis Palmer), and the stored dates left roughly September 14 to 26 with no 18-hole course in Mesquite open.

Laughlin-area closures came a little later and overlapped less. In 2026, El Rio closed September 1 to 27, Mojave Resort September 8 to October 8, Los Lagos September 10 to 23 and Riverview September 14 to October 12. Laughlin Ranch overseeded September 9 to 27 in 2024. Our Laughlin golf overseed guide has each course.

Getting there from Las Vegas

Mesquite is the easier fly-in trip. It is about 91 miles of I-15 from the Las Vegas airport rental car center, a 97-minute free-flow estimate, and the Salt Lake Express shuttle runs to two Mesquite casinos in about 1 hour 25 minutes for $33 to $41 one way on the date checked.

Laughlin is about 99 miles from the same rental car center, via US-95 south and NV-163 east over the mountains: 2 hours 19 minutes free-flow, often quoted at 1.5 to 2 hours. Shuttles exist, but schedules and fares were not verified. The Laughlin/Bullhead airport mainly handles casino charters. See Las Vegas to Laughlin and Las Vegas to Mesquite.

Two towns, two clocks each

Both towns are on Pacific time, and both have Arizona, which keeps Mountain Standard Time all year, across the line. From November 1, 2026 to March 14, 2027, the Arizona side is one hour ahead. Around Laughlin this matters a lot: Laughlin Ranch, Huukan, Los Lagos, El Rio and the Lake Havasu courses all keep Arizona time, while Mojave Resort and Rivers Edge keep Pacific. Around Mesquite it mostly affects the Palms in Littlefield. The Laughlin time zone guide explains the tee-time arithmetic.

Rooms and winter stays

Both towns have cheap midweek casino rooms. Laughlin's aggregator average was about $55 on weeknights, plus resort fees of roughly $18 to $27 at most casinos. In Mesquite, Virgin River showed $46.80 Sunday to Thursday for December 2026 and January 2027, and CasaBlanca $102.09 Sunday to Thursday in December 2026.

For a long stay, Laughlin's side of the river wins. RV parks publish monthly rates, such as Vista Del Sol RV Resort in Bullhead City at $1,061 to $1,200 a month for January to March 2027, and Rivers Edge sells a 3-month golf pass with cart for $1,200. The Mesquite map lists casino hotels, condos and villas but no RV parks or monthly rates. See Laughlin winter golf for how a season works.

Which town suits you

Choose Mesquite for a one-week trip built around ranked courses, if you are happy to pay roughly $110 to $420 a round and want the shortest drive from Las Vegas. Start with the Mesquite map and Mesquite golf courses.

Choose Laughlin for value, warmer mornings, a casino-and-river trip with mid-priced golf, or a winter of two to twelve weeks in an RV park or rental. Lake Havasu City adds a second base to the south.

Plan it on the map

Every Laughlin course and stay in this comparison is on the Laughlin 3D map, with drive times, tee ratings and rates seen in October 2026. The $30 plan can build a short trip or a whole winter stay with a weekly course rotation.
