Red-rock poster: Laughlin weather by month, read for golf

Laughlin weather by month runs from mid-60s winter afternoons with mid-40s dawns to July highs near 110F. NOAA's 1991-2020 normals give about 5.4 inches of rain a year, mostly December to March. For golf that means layers and later tee times in winter, and the earliest tee time you can get from May to September.

The Laughlin weather by month figures below come from the NOAA co-op station at the north end of the Casino Drive strip. They are long-term averages, not forecasts, so any given week can run warmer, colder or wetter.

Winter: December to February

Winter afternoons are mild and mornings are cold. December has the coldest normals, a 63.5F high and a 43.8F low. January is 64.5F and 44.6F, and February warms to 69.2F and 46.6F.

That 20-degree swing shapes a winter golf day. A dawn tee time starts in the mid-40s with possible frost delays. By midday you are in a polo. Short days in December also squeeze tee sheets into late morning and midday.

Winter is also the rainy season, small as it is. January averages 1.02 inches over 3.3 days and February 1.16 inches over 3.6 days, so the odd washout is possible. Put another way, even February averages only about 3.6 days with measurable rain, which leaves roughly 24 or 25 dry days in the month. A wet forecast usually means a delayed or shortened round, not a lost week. On a wet day, the Riverside's bowling center and cinema and its free classic car collection are the main indoor options on the strip.

Golf advice: book mid-morning if you dislike cold starts, carry a warm layer and a rain shell, and check for frost delays on the first tee times.

Spring: March and April

March is the pick of the spring: 77.4F highs, 51.2F lows and 0.75 inches of rain. April jumps to 85.7F and dries out to 0.17 inches.

NOAA publishes no wind normals for this stretch of river, but spring is commonly described as the windy season. The flat, open Mojave Resort course beside the Avi is one where the course notes say to expect wind. The Mojave Resort course guide has the layout.

Golf advice: March mornings are comfortable for the first tee times. In April, start a bit earlier and bring sunscreen and more water.

Summer: May to September

The Colorado River valley from Laughlin to Lake Havasu City is one of the hottest places in the US. Highs go from 95.4F in May to 105.5F in June and 109.8F in July. July and August lows sit near 82F, so even dawn is warm. September still averages 101.9F.

Most public courses stay open all year, but golf becomes a first-light activity. Los Lagos in Fort Mohave cuts its summer hours to 5 AM to noon from June to early September. Rates are the lowest of the year: Laughlin Ranch charges $87 Friday to Sunday and $80 Monday to Thursday from July 12 to September 20 on its table labelled 2027. The Laughlin Ranch course guide lists every rate band.

July to September bring monsoon humidity and occasional thunderstorms with lightning, dust and flash flooding in washes. August is the wettest summer month at 0.43 inches. Summer crowds on the river and lake are boaters, not golfers, and Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day weekends fill hotels and campgrounds even as tee sheets stay quiet.

Golf advice: take the earliest tee time, ride a cart, carry far more water than usual and finish before late morning. Leave the course if lightning is near. See Laughlin summer golf.

Fall: October and November

October cools to 88.7F highs and 61.3F lows. November is one of the best golf months, at 74.1F and 50.6F with 0.32 inches of rain over 1.2 days.

Fall weather is excellent, but course availability is the catch. Many courses close for overseed somewhere between early September and mid-October, and a few run later. See Laughlin golf overseed.

Golf advice: in October, early tee times are pleasant and afternoons are warm. In November, play any time of day.

Laughlin vs Bullhead City, Needles and Lake Havasu

The towns along this stretch of river share almost the same weather.

  • Bullhead City, across the river, has full normals that are almost identical: highs from 63.6F in December to 110.7F in July, lows from 43.9F to 81.1F and about 5.4 inches of rain a year.
  • Needles, home to Rivers Edge, runs about 1F warmer by day and 2-5F warmer at night.
  • Lake Havasu City, home to Lake Havasu Golf Club, is within about 1F of Laughlin by day, slightly cooler at dawn in winter and drier, at about 4.2 inches a year. Our Lake Havasu weather by month guide compares them.

So if you are choosing a base, Laughlin weather by month should not decide it. Drive times, the two time zones and the courses you want to play matter more.

Using the weather to plan a trip

Read the normals alongside the golf calendar. November and March have the best weather; January to March is peak season with the most winter visitors; summer is cheapest but hot. Our best time to golf in Laughlin guide sets out month by month price and crowds, and Laughlin winter golf covers a long stay.

Plan it on the map

The Laughlin golf map shows every course and stay with drive times. The $30 plan picks tee times that suit the season, later starts in midwinter and first light in summer, or builds a weekly rotation for a whole winter stay.
