What the differences mean on the course
Winter dawns are colder in Havasu. December and January lows run about 2F below Laughlin. A first tee time in January starts near 43F, so frost on the early tee times is something to plan for. Mid-morning starts are kinder.
Havasu is drier in winter. The biggest gap is February, 0.61 inches against 1.16 in Laughlin, with about 2.8 rain days against 3.6. Over January to March, Havasu averages about 1.84 inches against 2.93 in Laughlin. Fewer wet days is a small plus for a long winter stay.
Summer is the same furnace. Highs top 105F from June to August in both towns. Havasu's July and August lows are slightly warmer, at about 82-83F. Golf is a dawn activity, and monsoon storms with lightning and dust can arrive from July to September.
Afternoons are nearly identical. This is the main lesson of Lake Havasu weather by month set beside Laughlin. From March to November, highs differ by less than 1F. Choose between Havasu and Laughlin on courses, lodging and drive times, not weather. Our Laughlin vs Lake Havasu guide compares the bases.
Lake Havasu weather by month for golf
November and December. November is one of the best golf months, at 74.9F with 0.30 inches of rain. Check overseed first: in late October 2026 the Lake Havasu Golf Club West course had no public tee times while it grew in, and the Desert East was the open course. December cools to 63.8F with the coldest dawns of the year, and the Festival of Lights and Boat Parade of Lights run through the holidays.
January and February. The peak of winter-visitor season, with mid-60s to 70F afternoons. The Havasu Balloon Festival runs January 21-24, 2027, a busy weekend for rooms and restaurants. Winterfest, a street fair on McCulloch Boulevard, is in February.
March and April. March is 78.1F and dry enough for nearly every round. It is also spring break, which brings college crowds to the Channel and the Island and pushes up Havasu room rates. April is mid-80s and almost dry; late April brings Desert Storm performance-boat week, when Havasu hotels fill.
May to September. May is mid-90s, then June to August top 105F. Book the first tee time, ride a cart and carry extra water. Lake Havasu Golf Club's after-3 PM rate ($50 West, $48 East) is not a summer play: the heat peaks in the afternoon.
October. High 80s, cooling. Courses reopen from overseed through the month: Iron Wolf reopened October 7, 2026. The IJSBA jet ski World Finals (October 3-11, 2026) and London Bridge Days (parade October 24, 2026) add to room demand.
Golf and daylight in a Havasu winter
Winter afternoons are short. Lake Havasu Golf Club's West course drops to $50 public after 3 PM, and in midwinter that leaves about two and a half hours of light. That suits nine holes or a fast pair, not a slow foursome.
Lake Havasu City is on Arizona time all year, with no daylight saving. From November 1, 2026 to March 14, 2027 it is one hour ahead of Laughlin, so a day trip from the casinos needs an earlier start than it looks. See our Laughlin time zone guide.
Wet or windy days
NOAA publishes no wind normals for Lake Havasu City, but spring is commonly described as the windy season on the river. Lake Havasu Golf Club's West is an older hillside layout with water and lake views, and the East is shorter and easier at 6,140 yards. The Lake Havasu Golf Club West course guide has the West card.
When the weather turns, Back Nine Golf at 1850 McCulloch Boulevard has indoor simulators, the only ones found on our map and useful on a windy or wet day. The Lake Havasu Museum of History and the city aquatic center are other indoor stops. On a calm winter morning, the Crack in the Mountain trail at SARA Park is at its best; it is very hot in summer.
A day farther south
Emerald Canyon, the La Paz County course near Parker, is about 40 minutes south of Lake Havasu City by our estimate. It keeps a winter rate season of November 1 to April 30, with a closure for overseed from October 1 to November 1, 2026. The Emerald Canyon course guide has rates.
Weather and a winter stay in Havasu
The steady, dry winters are why so many winter visitors base in Lake Havasu City for weeks at a time. Prices seen in October 2026, which change:
- Havasu Falls RV Resort offered a November and December special of $800 a month plus electric; the January to March monthly rate is not published. It is 8 minutes from Iron Wolf.
- Islander RV Resort on the Island lists sites from $88.88 a night in winter, tax included, with a two-night minimum.
- Furnished winter rentals were listed at about $1,300 to $2,500 a month, often with a three- or four-month minimum.
Lake Havasu Golf Club sells seasonal memberships for winter visitors: one month individual is $1,125 and three months $2,525. Bridgewater Links, the nine-hole course at the London Bridge Resort, has an unclear status for this season, so call first.
