Huukan Golf Club: the former Desert Lakes, and what changed

Huukan Golf Club is the former Desert Lakes Golf Course in Fort Mohave, Arizona: the same 1989 Baldock layout at 5835 Desert Lakes Drive under a new name and new management. It now runs under the Mojave Golf umbrella with Mojave Resort and books on EZLinks. It is flat, tree-lined and watery, keeps Arizona time and publishes no current rates.

What changed at Huukan Golf Club, and what did not

The club site says the course "has been brought back to life" with an ownership and management change. The date of that change was not found. Our research on the Avi Resort credits its owner, the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe, with owning both Huukan and Mojave Resort. A 2013 report said the tribe had acquired a golf course it planned to upgrade, but whether that was this course is not confirmed.

What it means for you: the name, the operator and the booking system are new, but the holes are the same. If an old listing says Desert Lakes, it is this course.

The course

Huukan is a flat valley parkland course with tree-lined fairways, several lakes and mountain views. It is among the gentler tests in the valley, which suits couples and higher handicaps, though water is in play on several holes.

Ratings from GolfPass. Bullhead City's golf page quotes 6,569 yards, 70.5 and 119, which does not match, so check the tee you pick against the scorecard on the day. See the Huukan course guide.

Facilities include a driving range, a pro shop, a snack shop, club rentals and clubhouse dining with indoor and outdoor seating. Cart and dress rules were not published, so ask when you book.

Booking and fees

Book online at huukan.ezlinksgolf.com or by phone. No 2026 rates were published, and the EZLinks sheet would not load when checked in October 2026, so call before you go. The booking window is not published either.

Because Huukan and Mojave Resort share an operator, guest perks tied to the Avi are worth asking about. The Avi's own pages mention reduced rates at Mojave Resort for Avi guests, but nothing specific to Huukan was found. Our Mojave Resort Golf Club guide covers the Avi link.

When Huukan is open

This is the most important thing to check. The Mojave Golf site, read in October 2026, said Huukan closes from June 1 until overseeding is complete, about October 1. An older, undated listing also said the course stays closed for overseed until about October 1, and another gave winter hours of dawn to 5 PM from September 2 to May 31. No 2026 overseed dates were published.

So Huukan is a course for October to May. Normal highs in Laughlin are about 74F in November, 64F in January and 77F in March, with mornings in the mid-40s in December and January. For summer golf, look at the courses that stay open with dawn tee times; our Laughlin summer golf guide covers them.

The clock

Huukan Golf Club is in Arizona. Mojave Resort, its sister course, is in Nevada. Same operator, different clocks:

• From November 1, 2026 to March 14, 2027, a Huukan tee time is one hour ahead of a Laughlin casino clock. A 9:00 AM start at Huukan is 8:00 AM on Casino Drive.
• If you play Huukan in the morning and Mojave Resort in the afternoon, the Mojave tee sheet is an hour behind.
• From March 14, 2027 both sides show the same time.

Getting there and where to stay

Huukan is about 16.3 miles and 28 minutes from the Laughlin-Bullhead City Bridge on a free-flow estimate, via AZ-95 on the Arizona side. Mojave Resort is about 15 minutes away across the river.

Snowbird RV Park on Joy Lane is the closest RV park found to the former Desert Lakes course, about 5 minutes by road, with campsites from $50 a night on AAA. Vista Del Sol RV Resort publishes monthly rates of $1,061 to $1,200 for January to March 2027. Huukan Golf Club for winter visitors

Huukan sits in the part of the valley where many snowbirds stay, and the Arizona clock matches the RV parks and rentals around it. No season pass, punch card or winter-visitor rate was published for 2026-27, so ask the shop what it offers for regular players before you commit to a weekly slot. Book morning tee times early from January to March, the winter-visitor peak, when the first slots go fastest across the river courses.

Snowbird RV Park has 144 sites, a pool and laundry, and takes winter bookings by phone at 928-768-7141. It does not publish a monthly rate, so call for one.

Pairing Huukan with nearby courses

Fort Mohave and Mohave Valley have two more 18-hole courses close by. Los Lagos is a longer Ted Robinson Sr. desert course with a slope of 126; ask about conditions after the 2025 storm. El Rio is the longest course in the Mohave Valley at 7,143 yards; call 928-768-3574 before planning around it. Snowbird RV Park is 6 minutes from El Rio and 17 from Los Lagos.
