Fort Mohave golf: Huukan, Los Lagos, El Rio and the Mohave Valley

Fort Mohave golf means three 18-hole courses along AZ-95 south of Bullhead City: Huukan, the former Desert Lakes; Los Lagos, a long Ted Robinson Sr. desert course; and El Rio in neighbouring Mohave Valley. All keep Arizona time and sit 28 to 39 minutes from the Laughlin-Bullhead City Bridge. Few publish current fees, so call ahead.

This stretch of the Mohave Valley is where many winter visitors base, between the Bullhead City courses to the north and Needles to the south. Here is how the three compare.

Huukan: the former Desert Lakes

Huukan is the old Desert Lakes Golf Course under a new name. The club site says it was brought back with an ownership and management change, and it now runs under the Mojave Golf umbrella with Mojave Resort, sharing the EZLinks booking system. The date of the change was not found.

It is a flat valley parkland course with tree-lined fairways, several lakes and mountain views, and among the gentler tests in the valley. Women play the Green tees at 5,440 yards (70.7, slope 117). Bullhead City's golf page quotes a different card, 6,569 yards, 70.5 and 119, so check your tee against the scorecard on the day. There is a driving range, pro shop, snack shop, club rentals and clubhouse dining with indoor and outdoor seating.

One timing note matters: the Mojave Golf site, read in October 2026, said Huukan closes from June 1 until overseeding is complete, about October 1. Plan it for the cooler months. Our Huukan Golf Club guide covers the change of name, and the Huukan course guide has the tees.

Los Lagos: the long desert course

Los Lagos is a Ted Robinson Sr. design from 2007, carved from the valley with mountain views and four tee sets. At 6,921 yards and a slope of 126 from the Blue tees, it matches El Rio for slope and is the more demanding of the two Fort Mohave courses. Women play the Red tees at 5,040 yards (72.3, slope 124).

It has had a rough couple of years. A storm damaged the course in 2025, and the front nine stayed closed for a long stretch. In October 2026 it was taking 18-hole tee times, and reviews from September and October 2026 do not mention a closed nine, but no reopening announcement was found. The clubhouse and pro shop were closed for fire repairs and remodeling from summer into fall 2026. Hours change by season: 6:30 AM to 5:30 PM from September 24 to December 31, 6 AM to 6 PM from January to May, and 5 AM to noon in summer. Book on GolfNow or at 928-768-7778. El Rio: the longest course in the valley

El Rio in Mohave Valley is a Matt Dye design from 2004, beside Moon River RV Resort near the river. Locals bought it and reopened it in February 2015. From the Gold tees it is 7,143 yards, the longest course in the Mohave Valley and second only to Laughlin Ranch (7,155) near Laughlin; most groups belong on the Black tees at 6,638.

Its bermuda fairways and its greens are overseeded with rye in winter, and it was closed September 1 to 27, 2026 to do it. An April 2026 reviewer said conditions were much better than the year before under new management, with the restaurant open, but other reviews call conditions fair and mention thin fairways while overseed fills in. It charged $45 with cart in August 2026, then dropped off GolfNow, and no replacement booking system was found. Call 928-768-3574. Our El Rio Golf Club guide has the details.

Which Fort Mohave course for which golfer

• Higher handicaps and couples: Huukan. It is flat and the slope is 115 from the back tees, though water comes into play on several holes.
• Low handicaps wanting length: El Rio from the Gold tees, 7,143 yards, if it is taking bookings when you call.
• A desert test with views: Los Lagos, once you have confirmed conditions and which services are running.
• Summer golf: check carefully. Los Lagos plays only 5 AM to noon from June to early September, and the Mojave Golf site said Huukan closes from June 1 until about October 1.
• A weekly winter rotation: all three, plus Mojave Resort across the river and Laughlin Ranch, 13 minutes from Vista Del Sol or 22 from Snowbird RV Park. Our Laughlin winter golf guide shows how a season fits together.

Willow Springs: status unclear

Willow Springs, a 9-hole par-3 course on Highway 95 in Mohave Valley built in 1963, appears in directories and on a Yelp listing describing a cash honor box. No dated 2026 review or official site was found, and phone numbers conflict. Status unclear, call first.

Staying near the Fort Mohave golf courses

Snowbird RV Park on Joy Lane is the closest base found: about 5 minutes from Huukan, 6 from El Rio and 17 from Los Lagos. It is family run with 144 sites, a pool and laundry, and AAA lists campsites from $50 a night; call 928-768-7141 for winter monthly prices. Vista Del Sol RV Resort in south Bullhead City is about 15 minutes from Huukan and El Rio, with published monthly rates of $1,061 to $1,200 for January to March 2027. See Bullhead City RV resorts.

Across the Veterans Memorial Bridge, the Avi Resort & Casino and the Avi KOA are about 14 minutes from Huukan and El Rio and next door to Mojave Resort, which shares Huukan's operator. That makes a Huukan and Mojave Resort pairing easy, as long as you remember Mojave Resort's tee sheet is on Pacific time.

Fort Mohave golf and the clock

From November 1, 2026 to March 14, 2027, Fort Mohave is one hour ahead of Laughlin. A 9:00 AM tee time at Huukan is 8:00 AM on a Laughlin casino clock.
