Fact box: Destin golf weekend: a tight Friday-to-Sunday plan with three rounds

A Destin golf weekend fits three rounds if you fly into VPS on Friday morning and base in east Destin: a Friday afternoon round at Indian Bayou, Kelly Plantation on Saturday and Regatta Bay on Sunday morning before a late flight. All three courses take public tee times and sit within 8 minutes of the base on routed drive times.

Here is the plan, two alternatives, and the weekend-specific traps: prices that rise on Saturday and Sunday mornings, and Saturday traffic on US 98.

Quick facts

  • Fly into: VPS, 33 minutes and 16.8 miles from Destin harbour (free-flow).
  • Base: east Destin; all three courses within 8 minutes.
  • Three rounds: Friday afternoon, Saturday, Sunday morning.
  • Weekend pricing: dynamic-priced courses cost more on weekend mornings.
  • Avoid: spring-break and summer Saturdays on US 98; condo week-long minimums.

The Destin golf weekend at a glance

Drive times are routed from the Holiday Inn Express Destin East. Fees are GolfNow prices seen for late October to early November 2026, with cart; rates change.

Friday: land and play Indian Bayou

Take a morning flight into VPS and drive over the Mid-Bay Bridge (toll) into east Destin. Indian Bayou is the right first round: a mature, forgiving 18 with wide fairways and light rough, ranked by GolfPass for pace of play and rated 4.5 out of 5 from 2,565 reviews. Afternoon times are the cheapest; GolfNow showed a weekday 1:45 p.m. time at $74.99 in late October 2026.

Two things to know: the range is for members and booked players only, and only the Seminole and Choctaw nines are in play, so ignore Creek-nine scorecards online. See the Indian Bayou course guide.

Saturday: Kelly Plantation

Saturday is for the best public course in Destin. Kelly Plantation was renovated in 2024 by Bill Bergin, with new tees, bunkers and upgraded greens, and has water on most holes, a bay overlook at the 4th and nine tee sets. It books through GolfNow, where prices swing widely: about $90 to $119 in late October 2026, against $170 to $180 on early-September mornings. Cart is included and there is a full practice area.

After the round, the harbour is about 13 minutes west for dinner and a night out. See the Kelly Plantation course guide.

Sunday: Regatta Bay, then fly

Book the earliest time you can get. Regatta Bay is the toughest course in Destin, slope 147 from the Black tees, with forced carries over water and marsh, so play the White tees (5,965 yards, slope 136) unless you are a low handicap. GolfNow prices ran $90.99 to $189.99 in late October 2026.

If your flight is early, swap in Regatta Bay's late-afternoon 9-hole option on Saturday instead, which recent reviewers liked; its price is not published. See the Regatta Bay course guide.

Two alternative weekends

A Sandestin weekend. Base at the Hyatt Place Sandestin on Grand Boulevard, with free breakfast and parking per listings and Baytowne 3 minutes away. Play Baytowne Friday, the Links Saturday and the Raven Sunday. Public rates in fall 2026 were $99, $119 and $159. Staying in Sandestin resort lodging instead would cut those to $75, $95 and $130, which pays back on three rounds. See the Baytowne course guide and our Sandestin golf guide.

A Niceville weekend. Stay at the Hampton Inn Niceville, close to VPS. Rocky Bayou is 9 minutes away at $109 with cart and a bucket of range balls, and the best-kept course on that side. Bluewater Bay is also 9 minutes and cheap, but October 2026 reviewers described bare fairways and patchy greens. Add Kelly Plantation over the bridge, 20 minutes from the hotel. Our Niceville golf guide covers that side.

Weekend pricing and booking

Destin and 30A price lodging by season more than by day of week, but weekend rates still run higher than midweek outside summer. On the golf side:

  • Dynamic-priced courses cost more on weekend mornings. Indian Bayou ran from $74.99 on a weekday afternoon to $160.99 on Sunday, November 1, 2026 at 7:18 a.m.
  • Sandestin publishes one rate per season, with no weekday or weekend split.
  • Public booking windows are short at Sandestin: 14 days for non-staying golfers, against six months for resort guests.
  • Prepaid GolfNow deals are usually refundable only with 24 or more hours' notice.

Our Destin tee times guide covers windows and booking systems course by course.

The Saturday traffic trap

US 98 through Destin and Miramar Beach is a six-lane road with heavy signals, badly congested on spring-break and summer Saturdays, the usual condo changeover day, and around Destin Commons and the Silver Sands outlets. Add 20 to 60 minutes or more to free-flow times on those Saturdays. That is the reason to base close to your courses and play the Saturday round on the same side of the bay.

When to go

Spring (March to May) and October are peak golf. Spring break fills March and early April, so mid-April to mid-May is the better spring window, apart from the Sandestin Wine Festival weekend in mid-April. October is the driest month, with normal highs near 81F. Winter weekends are cheap and quiet, with highs in the low to mid 60s. See the best time to golf in Destin.

Questions golfers ask

Can you fit three rounds into a Destin golf weekend?

Yes, if you fly into VPS on Friday morning and base in east Destin. VPS is about 33 minutes from Destin harbour, and from the Holiday Inn Express in east Destin, Regatta Bay is 5 minutes, Kelly Plantation 7 and Indian Bayou 8. That allows a Friday afternoon round, Saturday and a Sunday morning round before a late flight.

Which courses are best for a Destin golf weekend?

Kelly Plantation for the full Destin experience, Regatta Bay for the hardest test and Indian Bayou for a quick, cheaper round. All three take public tee times and sit within 8 minutes of an east Destin base. Sandestin's Baytowne and the Links suit a weekend based at Sandestin.

Is golf more expensive on weekends in Destin?

Often, at courses with dynamic pricing. At Indian Bayou in late October 2026, GolfNow showed $74.99 for a weekday afternoon and $160.99 for a Sunday morning. Sandestin's published rates do not split weekday and weekend. Hotels also run higher at weekends outside summer.

What is the best weekend for golf in Destin?

A weekend from mid-April to mid-May or in October, when the weather is at its best. Avoid spring-break Saturdays and summer Saturdays, the condo changeover day, when US 98 and the 331 bridge back up. The Sandestin Wine Festival weekend in mid-April fills Sandestin.

Where should I stay for a Destin golf weekend?

East Destin near Destin Commons keeps every drive short. The Holiday Inn Express there has free breakfast and parking; the Henderson Beach Resort is the beach option, 6 to 7 minutes from Regatta Bay and Kelly Plantation, but adds a $49 daily resort fee and parking. For a Sandestin weekend, the Hyatt Place on Grand Boulevard is minutes from Baytowne.

Can I play golf the day I fly into Destin?

Usually, if you land by late morning. From VPS, the Niceville courses are on the same side of the bay: Rocky Bayou and Bluewater Bay are both 9 minutes from the Hampton Inn Niceville. Destin's courses are across the Mid-Bay Bridge, a toll road. Leave margin for a delayed flight before booking an early afternoon time.

Do I need a minimum stay for a Destin weekend?

Hotels generally take short stays, but beach condos and houses often require week-long, Saturday-to-Saturday minimums in summer and spring-break weeks. Fall and winter bring short-stay availability and lower nightly rates. For a weekend, book a hotel rather than a condo.
