Flights to Destin usually mean Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport (VPS), about 33 minutes from Destin harbour and 43 from Sandestin, with Allegiant, American, Delta, Southwest and seasonal JetBlue and Sun Country. Northwest Florida Beaches (ECP) suits the east end of 30A. Pensacola (PNS) is 91 minutes away but can be cheaper.

Avelo left VPS in 2026. For Midwest snowbirds, Allegiant's seasonal network makes VPS the best airport, and Sun Country and Delta both serve Minneapolis.
VPS sits on Eglin Air Force Base, north of Choctawhatchee Bay. To reach Destin or Sandestin you either take the Mid-Bay Bridge (a toll road, fastest to Sandestin and east Destin) or go round through Niceville and Shalimar to the Brooks Bridge at Fort Walton Beach.
Flying into Panama City (ECP)
ECP is the better airport if you are staying at the east end of 30A or in Panama City Beach. Our season research puts Rosemary Beach, Alys Beach, Inlet Beach and Watersound at roughly 35 to 45 minutes from ECP (not router-checked).

- Southwest: Austin, Dallas Love, Denver, Houston Hobby, Nashville, St. Louis; seasonal Baltimore, Chicago-Midway, Columbus, Indianapolis, Kansas City; Milwaukee from March 11, 2027 and Pittsburgh from June 5, 2027.
- Delta: Atlanta; Delta Connection to Austin and New York-LaGuardia.
- American: Charlotte, Dallas/Fort Worth, Washington-National; seasonal Chicago-O'Hare and Philadelphia.
- United: Houston-Intercontinental; seasonal Chicago-O'Hare and Denver.
That matters for golf because the private Watersound Club courses are at the east end. From Camp Creek Inn, Camp Creek is a minute away and Origins about 9 minutes, while Legacy Golf Club in Panama City Beach is 28 minutes. Flying into Pensacola (PNS)
PNS has the widest airline mix of the three: American, Delta, United and Southwest, plus Breeze (Fayetteville/Bentonville, Fort Lauderdale, Memphis, Orlando, Raleigh/Durham, Tampa, seasonal San Antonio), Frontier (Denver, Orlando) and seasonal Contour. It is about 1.5 hours to Destin and close to two to Sandestin, and US 98 through Navarre and Fort Walton Beach is slow in season. PNS also saw some damage in the area during Hurricane Isaias in October 2026; airport operations were not checked.
Pensacola makes most sense for a group based in Fort Walton Beach or on Okaloosa Island, where the city's Fort Walton Beach Golf Club Pines course and its Oaks sister are the nearest public golf. It is also the airport for Gulf Shores; our Gulf Shores flying guide covers that side.
From VPS to the golf
VPS is closest to the Niceville side of the bay. These are routed drive times from the Hampton Inn Niceville, on Rocky Bayou about seven miles from Eglin's East Gate, and from the Holiday Inn Express Destin East near the south end of the Mid-Bay Bridge:

So a VPS arrival suits a first-afternoon round on the Niceville side at Rocky Bayou, the best-kept course there at $109 with cart (club site, October 2026), or a quick hop over the Mid-Bay Bridge to Kelly Plantation or Regatta Bay. The Mid-Bay Bridge toll
The Mid-Bay Bridge (SR 293) is the quickest road from VPS and Niceville to Destin and Sandestin. The last published toll schedule we found (FDOT, fiscal 2023, two-axle) was $4.00 cash, $3.00 SunPass infrequent and $2.00 SunPass frequent. Tolls are indexed every year and cash acceptance in 2026 was not confirmed. Rental cars usually pay by plate, so check your rental company's toll program before you leave the counter.

Most Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee traffic comes down US 331 to Freeport and the Clyde B. Wells Bridge into Santa Rosa Beach, or down SR 85 from Crestview to Niceville and Fort Walton Beach. No nonstop flights from Canada to VPS, ECP or PNS were found as of October 2026. Options are one stop to VPS via Atlanta or Minneapolis on Delta, or Charlotte, Chicago or Dallas on American; or to ECP via Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston or Southwest's Midwest network. Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport (VPS), the airline airport on Eglin Air Force Base. It is about 33 minutes and 16.8 miles from Destin harbour and 43 minutes and 23.6 miles from Sandestin, on free-flow router estimates. Destin Executive Airport on US 98 handles private jets and general aviation only.
Which airlines fly to Destin (VPS)?
Per the airport's Wikipedia route list read in October 2026: Allegiant, American, Delta, JetBlue (seasonal), Southwest and Sun Country (seasonal). Allegiant has the biggest network, with about 22 seasonal cities on top of its year-round routes. Avelo left VPS in 2026. Verify routes with the airlines, because seasonal service changes often.
Is it better to fly into Panama City (ECP) for 30A?
For the east end of 30A, often yes. ECP is roughly 35 to 45 minutes from Rosemary Beach, Alys Beach, Inlet Beach and Watersound (not router-checked), against about 65 minutes to Sandestin and 82 to Destin. Southwest is its largest carrier.
How far is Pensacola airport from Destin?
About 91 minutes and 51 miles to Destin harbour and 109 minutes and 61.4 miles to Sandestin, free-flow, before US 98 traffic through Navarre and Fort Walton Beach. It is worth it for a cheaper fare or a Breeze or Frontier nonstop, or for a group based in Fort Walton Beach.
Are there direct flights from Canada to Destin?
No nonstop flights from Canada to VPS, ECP or PNS were found as of October 2026. Canadians connect through Atlanta or Minneapolis on Delta, Charlotte, Chicago or Dallas on American, or through Southwest's network to ECP. Ontario snowbirds often drive for monthly stays.
Do I need a rental car for a Destin golf trip?
Yes. The courses run about 40 miles from Fort Walton Beach to Inlet Beach and north across the bay to Niceville and Freeport. VPS, ECP and PNS all have on-site rental counters. Uber and Lyft operate in Okaloosa and Walton counties, but rideshare cannot go onto Eglin beyond the VPS terminal area.
What time zone is Destin in?
Central Time, like Panama City Beach and the ECP airport. Florida switches to Eastern Time just east of Bay County, so Tallahassee is an hour ahead. Flyers from Atlanta gain an hour on arrival.
