Direction and drive time from downtown: SilverRock golf: La Quinta's city course, rates, residents and what is planned

SilverRock golf is La Quinta's city-owned public course, the Arnold Palmer Classic Course, 7,239 yards below the Santa Rosa Mountains. Anyone can book on TeeItUp, residents use their own tee sheet, and pricing is dynamic. It reopened from overseed on October 30, 2026 after a summer back-nine turf renovation.

It sits next to a resort site that has been planned for years and is now under a new owner. This guide covers how booking works, what is known about price, the 2026 work on the course, what is planned next door and how SilverRock fits against PGA West. Details were read on the course site on November 2, 2026.

Quick facts

  • Owner: City of La Quinta; public.
  • Course: SilverRock Resort, Arnold Palmer Classic Course, par 72, 7,239 yards from the back.
  • Book: visitors on TeeItUp; La Quinta Resident Card holders on a separate resident tee sheet; prepayment required.
  • Pricing: dynamic all year; no rate card published.
  • 2026: back nine renovated May 18 to Aug 28; overseed Oct 12 to Oct 30; cart path only to Nov 24.
  • Clubhouse: temporary, with a permanent one planned.
  • Phone: 760-777-8884.
  • From downtown Palm Springs: about 38 minutes, 23.1 miles.

Booking SilverRock golf

SilverRock is open to anyone. There are two tee sheets:

  • Visitors: book on TeeItUp. Prepayment is required.
  • La Quinta residents: Resident Card holders book on a separate resident tee sheet (ezlinks), at resident rates that are not published.

The booking window is not published. GolfNow also showed October 2026 tee times. For how windows work across the valley, see Palm Springs tee times.

What SilverRock golf costs

SilverRock golf uses dynamic pricing all year, and its rates page publishes no rate card. Resident rate amounts are not published either. So there is no number to give, only the shape: as across the valley, expect January to April to cost the most and summer the least. SilverRock is generally the middle-priced alternative to PGA WEST.

For a frame of reference in La Quinta, a user-contributed tracker (seen April 2026) put the PGA West Stadium at about $235 in peak season, the Nicklaus Tournament at about $195 and the Greg Norman at about $155. GolfPass listed the Pete Dye Dunes from $56 (seen November 2026); rates change. Check SilverRock's tee sheet for your date and compare. See Palm Springs golf rates.

The 2026 renovation and overseed

SilverRock had a busy 2026.

Work Dates What it means
Back-nine turf renovationMay 18 to Aug 28, 2026fresh back-nine turf this season
Fall overseed closureOct 12 to Oct 30, 2026reopened Oct 30
Cart path onlyOct 30 to Nov 24, 2026a walking-heavy round until late November

The fairways are overseeded with rye. After November 24, carts return to the fairways and the rye should be settled. For a group that hates cart-path rounds, late November onward is the time. Read Palm Springs golf overseed.

The round

SilverRock is a desert course set below the Santa Rosa Mountains, with lakes and native rock, and it is long: 7,239 yards from the back. Per-tee ratings and slopes are not published, so they are not listed here. The course is named the Arnold Palmer Classic Course. Google reviewers rate it 4.2 from 671 reviews.

One honest caution from the course site: construction on the adjacent resort land may interrupt views on some holes.

What is planned at SilverRock

The resort land next to the course has a long history.

  • The original plan: a dual Montage and Pendry hotel project. It stalled.
  • December 2025: the site came out of bankruptcy and was sold to a new owner, Turnbridge (KESQ reported the sale December 16, 2025).
  • The plan now: a new partner plans a hotel, spa, conference centre, permanent clubhouse and residences. La Quinta's 2026 State of the City describes one hotel of about 154 rooms that still needs financing and approvals, with demolition of unfinished structures the current activity.

What that means for SilverRock golf this season: there is no hotel at SilverRock and none will open for 2026-27, the clubhouse is temporary, and there may be construction next to some holes. The golf course itself is open and city-owned throughout.

SilverRock is the city course of the La Quinta group and plays nearly as long as the Stadium. It reopened from overseed earlier than the Stadium and the Mountain, which makes it useful for a late October or early November trip, as long as you accept cart path only. SilverRock during tournament week

The American Express is scheduled for January 21 to 24, 2027 on the PGA West Stadium, the Nicklaus Tournament Course and La Quinta Country Club. SilverRock is not a host course, so it stays a public option in La Quinta that week, but expect heavy traffic on Hwy 111, Washington St and PGA Blvd and full hotels and rentals at this end of the valley. Allow extra time to reach the first tee. See Palm Springs events.

Weather at the La Quinta end

The east valley has the same afternoon warmth as Palm Springs but colder dawns. The 1991-2020 normal January low at Thermal, the nearest station, is 39.0F, against 47.6F at Palm Springs airport, and December's is 37.7F. So La Quinta dawns are colder, and a later morning tee time is warmer than first light. The east valley is also drier, about 3 inches of rain a year against 4.6 in Palm Springs.

Avoid April festival weekends near Indio if you are not going: Coachella is scheduled for April 9 to 11 and 16 to 18, 2027 and Stagecoach for April 23 to 25, and one travel guide says valley hotel rates often run 3 to 4 times normal on those weekends. Old Town La Quinta, a small walkable village of shops and restaurants, is a quiet dinner option nearby. See where to stay in Palm Springs for golf.

Is SilverRock golf worth playing?

For a group based in La Quinta that wants a long, public, city-owned round without PGA West prices, yes, with two caveats for this season: the temporary clubhouse and possible construction next door. Freshly renovated back-nine turf is a plus. Because rates are not published, get a quote on TeeItUp and compare it against the PGA West tee sheet for the same day.

Plan it on the map
