Drive lines from downtown Orlando: Summer golf in Orlando: heat, storms, early tee times and the lowest rates

Summer golf in Orlando means the year's lowest green fees, with Disney advertising about 40% off from June to September, but also highs around 91F to 92F, steamy humidity and thunderstorms most afternoons. The answer is to tee off at first light, finish before the storms, and spend the afternoon in a pool or a park.

This guide covers June to September (with May and October either side): the heat and storm pattern, what courses charge, which ones close for summer work, and how to plan around lightning and hurricane season. Rates were seen in 2026 and are labelled by date; they change.

Quick facts

  • Summer highs: about 90.8F (June) to 92.0F (July) at Orlando International.
  • Rain: 6.4 to 8.1 inches a month on 14 to 17 days, June to September.
  • Pattern: dry mornings, afternoon thunderstorms with lightning most days.
  • Lowest rates: Disney about 40% off June 1-September 30, 2027.
  • Summer closures: aerification and renovations cluster June to September.
  • Hurricane season: June 1 to November 30; riskiest August to October.

September89.6 / 72.46.37 / 14.27.0

NOAA 1991-2020 normals at Orlando International. About 29.6 of the area's 51.4 inches of rain a year falls from June to September. Sanford, north of town, is about 1F warmer at night in midsummer. The air is also at its calmest: July averages 6.1 mph, so there is little breeze to cool a round. The full year is in Orlando weather by month.

Summer golf in Orlando: tee off at first light

Orlando's summer is humid heat with a daily thunderstorm cycle. The usual pattern is a dry, steamy morning, then storms building in the afternoon, with lightning most days. Central Florida has a reputation for very frequent lightning, and Florida courses commonly sound horns from lightning-detection systems and clear the course when strikes come within a set radius.

The practical rules:

  • Book the first tee times from June to September and treat afternoon times as a gamble.
  • Expect at least one stoppage on an afternoon round.
  • Never shelter under trees or in an open cart.
  • Ask about rain checks when you book; Twin Rivers' super twilight after 4 pm, for example, comes with no rain checks.

For families mixing parks and golf, the summer rhythm is golf at dawn and parks, water parks or pools in the afternoon heat.

Disney's twilight starts at 3:00 pm and super twilight at 4:30 pm from March 14 to September 30, about 45% and 60% off the morning rate, but summer storms make those late times risky. Summer closures and aerification

The catch with summer golf in Orlando is maintenance. Greens aerification and renovations cluster from June to September, and after an aerification expect sanded, bumpy greens for one to two weeks. Known dates and patterns from the course records:

  • Streamsong: greens aerification on Red July 11-22, Black July 27-August 5 and Blue August 15-26, 2027; Bone Valley June 28-July 8. From June to September, Red is closed all day on Tuesdays, Blue on Mondays and Black on Wednesdays. See the Streamsong Black course guide.
  • ChampionsGate National: the Omni's page showed summer closures in late May-mid June and late July-mid August in 2025; 2026-27 dates could not be read.
  • Casselberry: greens aerification on September 28-29, 2026, with a discounted rate through October 9.
  • Winter Park's city courses: one maintenance day a month, plus some Tuesday mornings in summer on the 2026 calendar.
  • Disney's Lake Buena Vista: closed May 4 to November 9, 2026 for a full rebuild, a reminder that summer is when big projects happen.

Check a course's page before booking any summer date.

Hurricane season

Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, with August to October the riskiest core. Orlando is inland, so storm surge is not a risk, but wind, flooding, power cuts and park closures are: Hurricane Ian crossed central Florida in late September 2022 with widespread flooding in the Orlando area, and Disney and Universal closed for Milton on October 9-10, 2024. Trip insurance that covers named storms is worth having for any summer booking.

Summer for families and groups

Summer golf in Orlando fits a family trip well. The parks are busy from Memorial Day (May 31, 2027) to early or mid August, with June and July the busiest family months, but golf is at its cheapest and quietest. Park crowds ease once Florida schools restart in August, and September is the quietest month of the year for parks and hotels.

A good summer day looks like this: a first-light round, then Universal's Volcano Bay or Disney's Typhoon Lagoon for the afternoon, or an indoor plan when the storms arrive.
