Red-rock poster: Orlando weather by month: what it means for your golf

Orlando weather by month runs from about 72F highs and 50F lows in January to about 92F and 73F in July. November to May is mostly dry, with 6 to 8 rain days a month; June to September brings 14 to 17 rain days and afternoon thunderstorms. For golf, that means winter rounds any time of day, and summer rounds at dawn.

This guide to Orlando weather by month turns the NOAA 1991-2020 climate normals into plain golf advice, comparing Orlando International Airport (MCO), south-east of downtown, with Orlando Sanford (SFB) at the north end of the area. Both were queried on November 4, 2026. The figures are long-term averages, so any given week can be warmer, cooler or wetter.

Quick facts

  • Coolest month: January, about 71.8F / 49.5F at MCO.
  • Hottest month: July, about 92.0F / 73.2F.
  • Driest month: November, 1.79 inches on 6 days.
  • Wettest month: June, 8.05 inches on about 16 days.
  • Annual rain: about 51.4 inches, 29.6 of it from June to September.
  • Wind: breeziest in March (8.8 mph average), calmest in July (6.1 mph).

One climate for the whole area

The Orlando area is flat, inland and shares one climate, so Orlando weather by month barely changes from one side of town to the other. Sanford and MCO are within about 1F of each other every month; Sanford has slightly more rain days in winter (about 8 a month against 6 to 7) and is about 1F warmer at night in midsummer. A January afternoon feels the same at Mayfair near Sanford as at Disney's Magnolia.

The only real relief is the Lake Wales Ridge hills near Clermont, and a few courses on the edges of the area have rolling ground unusual for Florida, such as El Campeon at Mission Resort + Club in Howey-in-the-Hills and the sand hills of Southern Dunes at Haines City. The hills change the golf more than the weather.

Winter: mild days, chilly dawns

From December to February, highs run about 72F to 75F and lows about 50F to 53F, with 6 to 7 rain days a month. That makes winter good golf weather all day, but early starts can be cold. After a strong cold front, dawns can drop near freezing and frost can delay first tee times (no frost-day count was read for this guide). Dormant bermuda also turns tan after frosts, which is why some Orlando resort and high-end courses overseed with ryegrass in the fall.

Short days matter too. Sunset is about 5:30 pm in early December, which limits twilight rounds, and Winter Park Golf Course keeps winter hours of 6:30 am to 5 pm from early November to mid-March. Disney's twilight start times reflect the light: 1:00 pm from November 1 to January 7, moving to 3:00 pm from March 14. For the season itself, read Orlando golf in December and January.

Spring: the best weather, the busiest courses

March runs about 79F by day and April about 84F, and April is one of the drier months (about 2.6 inches on 6 days). It is very good golf weather, especially in the second half of April. March is also the breeziest month, at 8.8 mph on average, so expect the open, links-style courses to play harder: Crooked Cat at Orange County National is wider than Panther Lake, but the wind matters more there. See Orlando golf in March for the crowds.

Summer: heat, humidity and lightning

Orlando's summer is humid heat with a daily thunderstorm cycle rather than extreme temperatures. Highs run about 88F in May, 91F in June, 92F in July and August and 90F in September, with nights of 72F to 74F. June to September bring 6.4 to 8.1 inches of rain a month on 14 to 17 days.

The usual pattern is a dry, steamy morning and storms building in the afternoon. Central Florida has a reputation for very frequent lightning, and Florida courses commonly sound horns from lightning-detection systems and clear the course when strikes come within a set radius (individual Orlando course policies were not read). The practical rules:

  • Book the first tee times of the day from June to September.
  • Expect at least one stoppage on an afternoon round.
  • Never shelter under trees or in an open cart.
  • For families, golf at dawn and parks or pools in the afternoon.

Summer brings the cheapest rates of the year; Providence charges $69 before 2 pm from April to September. More in summer golf in Orlando.

Fall: the rains ease

October drops to about 85F and 3.5 inches of rain on 8 days, and humidity breaks later in the month. November is the driest month of the year at 1.79 inches. That makes October and November a good window, with two caveats: hurricane season runs to November 30, and some courses close for overseeding from late October to mid-December. See Orlando golf in November.

Hurricane season

Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, with August to October the riskiest core. Orlando is inland, so storm surge is not a risk, but wind, flooding, power cuts and park closures are. Hurricane Ian crossed central Florida in late September 2022 with widespread flooding in the Orlando area, and Hurricane Milton crossed the state on October 9-10, 2024, when Walt Disney World and Universal closed. Trip insurance that covers named storms is worth having for any June-November booking.

Orlando weather by month and your tee time

  • November to April: play any time; take a layer for early starts in December-February.
  • May: morning tee times beat the humidity.
  • June to September: first light only, and plan the afternoon indoors or in the pool.
  • Any month: I-4 traffic near the parks can add 15-45 minutes, so leave margin before an early time.
