Fact box: Private golf clubs in Naples: what is private, the guest routes that exist, and public alternatives

Private golf clubs in Naples make up most of the map: of the 152 open courses from Naples to Fort Myers in our files, 108 are private and only 18 are fully public. Most private clubs admit visitors only as a member's guest. The real exceptions are resort stays, some seasonal rentals inside golf communities, and summer guest play at one club.

That is the most important fact about golf in Southwest Florida. This guide explains what kinds of private clubs there are, every guest route the research files name, and the public and semi-private courses to play instead. Facts were checked November 3, 2026. Club policies change and are often unpublished, so confirm any access in writing.

Quick facts

  • Courses on the map: 152 open; 108 private, 21 semi-private, 18 public, 5 guests-only.
  • Main route in: a member's invitation.
  • Resort routes: Tiburon (two Ritz-Carltons), LaPlaya Golf Club (LaPlaya resort), the Rookery and Hammock Bay (JW Marriott Marco Island).

  • Initiations published: $100,000 (Classics at Lely), $150,000 (Cavu), about $250,000 (Lantern Club).

The private clubs fall into a few types in the files:

The guest routes that exist

1. Be a member's guest

At nearly every private club, this is the only way in. Some clubs require the member to play with you. If you know a member, ask about their club's guest rules and fees before you travel.

2. Stay at a resort with golf

Three resort routes are confirmed in the files:

Tiburon is a membership club wrapped around the Ritz-Carlton, and GolfPass lists a resort stay as required. LaPlaya resort guests do not need a membership. At the Rookery and Hammock Bay, one report says the two courses alternate between members-only and members-plus-guests days, so ask which course is open to guests on your dates. Green fees at all of them are unpublished or dynamic. Read our guides to Tiburon Golf Club, LaPlaya Golf Club and the Rookery at Marco, or open the Tiburon Gold course guide and the Rookery course guide.

One route has closed. The former Naples Grande Golf Club is becoming Cavu Golf Club, a fully private club, and Naples Grande Beach Resort guests are no longer eligible to play. See closed golf courses in Naples.

3. Rent in a golf community

This is the snowbird route, and the terms vary. The examples in the files:

Community Renter golf, per listings Lease terms seen
Heritage Bay$600 member transfer fee in 2026-27 (others quoted $450-500) gives golf access; cart and green fees extra; some units do not include golf30-day minimum; 2-bed condo $4,525/month Nov-Dec 2026, $6,175 Jan-Mar 2027, plus 11% tax
Glen Eagleone listed home transfers its membership to the renter; round costs not stated30 nights, 60 nights Jan-Mar on that home; $325-415/night
Kelly Greensgolf serves members, renters and their guests; tee times by lotterynot listed
Heritage Palms, Olde Hickoryrenters per club rulesnot listed
Esplanaderenter golf access unclear6-month minimum on the listed home

Many other bundled clubs say seasonal renters may get golf privileges under club rules, but the research could not confirm it. Before you sign, get the owner to state in writing whether golf is included, what the transfer fee is, and what each round costs. HOA approval can take a month. Our Naples golf community rentals and Naples snowbird rentals guides go deeper, and the map has the Heritage Bay and Glen Eagle rental listings.

4. Play in summer

River Hall Country Club in Alva says it is private and member-exclusive for most of the year, with outside guests welcome during the summer months. It is about 71 minutes from downtown Naples. Its members also get reciprocal access at more than 400 clubs, and The Golf Lodge at the Quarry lists reciprocal arrangements too, though that page was not read. If your home club has reciprocal agreements, ask your pro.

Questions to ask before a golf-community rental

  • Does this unit include golf? At Heritage Bay some units do not.
  • What is the transfer or amenity fee? $600 on one Heritage Bay listing for 2026-27; $250 amenity transfer on one Esplanade listing.
  • What does each round cost? Transfer fees often cover access only; cart and green fees are extra.
  • How are tee times allocated? Kelly Greens uses a lottery.
  • How long is HOA approval? Heritage Bay listings ask for approval a month ahead; a Glen Eagle home charged a $500 HOA application.
  • What is the minimum stay? 30 days is common; one Glen Eagle home needs 60 nights from January to March, and the Esplanade listing six months.

What joining costs

Few clubs publish prices. The ones in the files:

Club Golf initiation Annual dues
The Classics at Lely Resort$100,000$22,200
Cavu Golf Club$150,000$21,000
The Lantern Club (Hibiscus rebuild, targeted late 2028)from about $250,000$20,000-25,000

Those numbers explain why so few courses here take public tee times.

Semi-private clubs that sell tee times

Between private and public sit the semi-private clubs, member clubs that sell some public times. Examples in the files: Spanish Wells in Bonita Springs, Palmetto-Pine and Cape Royal in Cape Coral (public times a week out at Palmetto-Pine), and Lakewood Country Club in East Naples, which appears to take outside play, but call first. These are often the easiest way onto a members' course without knowing a member.

How to plan around private golf

  1. Decide whether you want a guest route. If Tiburon, LaPlaya or the Rookery is the point of the trip, book the hotel first and the tee times with it.
  2. For a winter stay, choose the rental for its golf. Ask about renter golf before price.
  3. Build the rest on public courses. Book early in January to April; windows range from one week to 90 days.

Our Naples golf courses guide shows every course side by side with private clubs marked.
