Scorecard: Flights to Myrtle Beach for a golf trip: MYR, Wilmington, Charleston or drive

Flights to Myrtle Beach mostly mean Myrtle Beach International (MYR), about 9 minutes from the SkyWheel and served by ten airlines, many of them low-cost and seasonal. Wilmington and Charleston are two to two and a half hours away and rarely worth it unless fares or a base at one end of the Strand say otherwise. Many golfers simply drive.

This guide covers who flies to MYR, when another airport makes sense, the options from Canada, and drive times for groups coming by car.

Quick facts

  • Main airport: MYR, 9 minutes and 3.7 miles from the SkyWheel (free-flow estimate).
  • Airlines at MYR: Allegiant, American, Avelo, Breeze, Contour, Delta, Frontier, Southwest, Sun Country, United (Wikipedia, November 1, 2026).
  • Passengers: 3.53 million in 2025 (3.84 million in 2024); busiest routes Charlotte, Atlanta and Baltimore.
  • From Canada: no nonstops listed for 2026-27.
  • Time zone: Eastern; no change from Charlotte, Pittsburgh, Columbus or Toronto.
  • Car: essential.

The other airports, and when they make sense

Airport Drive to SkyWheel When to use it
MYR, Myrtle Beach9 min, 3.7 miAlmost always
CRE, Grand Strand Airport (North Myrtle Beach)34 min, 14.2 miGeneral aviation and private jets only; close to Barefoot and the North Strand
FLO, Florence94 min, 66.3 miRarely worth it over MYR
ILM, Wilmington117 min, 80.0 miFares, or a north-end base near Little River and the Brunswick Islands
CHS, Charleston151 min, 107.2 miA South Strand base at Pawleys Island or Litchfield, or a Charleston-plus-Myrtle trip

Drive times are free-flow estimates from the OSRM router and do not include traffic. Airline lists for ILM, CHS and FLO were not gathered for this guide.

Wilmington is the airport to price if your group is staying at the north end: it is closer to the Brunswick Islands courses such as Thistle and Tiger's Eye than MYR is. See our Brunswick Islands golf guide and the Thistle course guide.

Charleston makes sense for a South Strand trip built around Caledonia and True Blue, reached via US 17 through Georgetown. Our Pawleys Island golf guide covers that base, and the Caledonia course guide the course most groups go there for.

Grand Strand Airport in North Myrtle Beach takes charters only, but it sits close to the Barefoot Resort courses, which helps a charter group.

Drive times from MYR to North Myrtle Beach, Murrells Inlet or Pawleys Island were not router-checked for this guide. They are further than the 9 minutes to central Myrtle Beach, and the map shows each base's drive to every course.

Flying from Canada

No nonstop flights from Canada to MYR were listed on November 1, 2026. Porter flew seasonal winter-spring nonstops from Toronto Billy Bishop in past years (confirmed for 2022), and WestJet flew Toronto Pearson to MYR until 2020; no 2026-27 schedule was found for either, though a Porter return cannot be ruled out.

The options:

  • One stop via Charlotte (American), Atlanta or Detroit (Delta).
  • Cross the border to fly: Allegiant's seasonal Niagara Falls and Plattsburgh routes, or Breeze from Buffalo starting in July 2027.
  • Drive: about 18 hours from Toronto, free-flow, plus the border. Many Ontario and Quebec snowbirds do.

Can-Am Days in mid-March, timed to Ontario's March Break, brings a large influx of Canadian visitors; see our Myrtle Beach golf in spring guide.

Driving in

Myrtle Beach is a drive-in destination. Times are free-flow estimates from each city centre to the SkyWheel.

From Drive Distance Typical route
Charlotte, NC3 h 45 min170.5 miUS 74 east, then US 501 or SC 9
Raleigh, NC3 h 47 min186.7 miI-40 / I-95 to Lumberton, then US 74/76 and US 501 or SC 9
Richmond, VA6 h 28 min331.9 miI-95 to Dillon or Lumberton, then US 501 or SC 9
Washington, DC8 h 32 min444.3 miI-95 to Dillon, then US 501 or SC 9
Columbus, OH11 h 46 min586.0 miI-70 / I-77 via Charleston WV and Charlotte
Pittsburgh, PA12 h 4 min610.0 miI-79 / I-77 via Charleston WV and Charlotte
Toronto, ON18 h917.9 miQEW to Buffalo, then I-90 / I-79 / I-77 (plus border time)

The last leg matters. I-95 traffic leaves at Dillon or Florence. US 501 into Myrtle Beach is the main and most congested entry road, especially through Carolina Forest and on summer Saturdays; SC 22 is the faster freeway to the North Strand, and SC 9 runs into North Myrtle Beach. The planned I-73 has no construction start or opening date.

Getting around once you land

A car is essential. The Grand Strand runs about 60 miles from Little River to Pawleys Island, and many courses sit inland along SC 31, SC 22, SC 707, SC 9 and US 501. MYR has on-site rental counters. SC 31, the Carolina Bays Parkway, is the fastest way between the South Strand, central Myrtle Beach and the North Strand, avoiding Kings Highway.

Uber and Lyft work for dinners in central Myrtle Beach or at Barefoot Landing, not for daily golf with clubs. Golf package operators and some resorts arrange airport transfers or group vans; no public shuttle schedule was verified.

An arrival-day round near the airport

With a morning flight, you can play the same day. Whispering Pines, the city's own course on the former air force base by the airport, is a plain warm-up round. Pine Lakes, Myrtle Beach's first course, is about 10 minutes from the SkyWheel. Our Myrtle Beach golf weekend guide builds a short trip around flight times, and where to stay in Myrtle Beach for golf helps you pick a base.

Questions golfers ask

Which airport is best for a Myrtle Beach golf trip?

Myrtle Beach International (MYR) for almost every trip. It is about 9 minutes and 3.7 miles from the SkyWheel on free-flow estimates, and its low-cost network reaches much of the Northeast, Ohio Valley and upstate New York. Wilmington and Charleston are about two and two and a half hours away.

Which airlines fly to Myrtle Beach?

As read from Wikipedia on November 1, 2026: Allegiant, American, Avelo, Breeze, Contour, Delta, Frontier, Southwest, Sun Country and United, many of them seasonally. Breeze is adding a long list of routes in 2027. Seasonal routes change often, so check with the airline.

Are there nonstop flights from Canada to Myrtle Beach?

None were listed as of November 1, 2026. Porter has flown seasonal Toronto nonstops in past years and WestJet flew Toronto Pearson until 2020, but no 2026-27 schedule was found. Should I fly into Wilmington or Charleston instead?

Only for a reason. Wilmington (ILM) is about 117 minutes from the SkyWheel and sits closer to Little River and the Brunswick Islands courses. Charleston (CHS) is about 151 minutes away via US 17 and suits a South Strand base at Pawleys Island or a Charleston-plus-Myrtle trip.

Yes. The Grand Strand runs about 60 miles from Little River to Pawleys Island and many courses are inland along SC 31, SC 22, SC 707, SC 9 and US 501. Uber and Lyft work for dinners, not for daily golf with clubs.

Is there a time change flying to Myrtle Beach?
