Chaparral Golf Course in Bullhead City is a 9-hole course played as an 18-hole, par-60 executive loop, and since early 2026 it is owned and run by the city. The city takeover at Chaparral Golf Course
Chaparral opened in 1966, according to the city (one directory says 1968), and GolfPass credits the design to Ted Robinson Sr. For most of its life it was Chaparral Golf and Country Club. Bullhead City council minutes trace the change:
| Date | What happened |
|---|---|
| October 21, 2025 | Council renamed it Chaparral Golf Course and Restaurant |
| November 4, 2025 | City manager reported the city had taken over; play to reopen that week |
| January 5, 2026 | Deeds recorded |
| January 6, 2026 | City manager said the city officially owns and operates the course |
| October 2026 | Club site: closed for reseeding through November 10, 2026 |
The city cleaned up the course after the takeover, and the restaurant and bar have been city-run since November 2025. The club also offers social memberships with pool access. Membership prices were not published.
The reseed: closed until November 10, 2026
The club site, read on October 27, 2026, says: "We are closed for reseeding through November 10, 2026." So anyone arriving in early November cannot play it. From November 11 it should be back on the sheet, but confirm with the club first.
Outside that fall closure, Chaparral is open year-round. Most river courses close for two to three weeks between mid-September and mid-October to overseed; Chaparral's 2026 closure ends later than most. The Laughlin golf overseed guide lists every course's dates.
The nine: how the par-60 loop works
Chaparral has nine holes. You play them twice as an 18-hole executive loop of par 60, using alternate tees: the front nine from the blue tees and the back nine from the red.
| Tee (18-hole loop) | Yards | Par | Rating / slope |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blue | 3,914 | 60 | 58.3 / 98 |
| White | 3,644 | 60 | 57.1 / 96 |
| Gold | 3,281 | 60 | 55.3 / 88 |
| Red | 3,069 | 60 | 57.0 / 90 (women) |
These are GolfPass's 18-hole loop figures, and the men's and women's split is inferred. At under 4,000 yards for 18 holes, it is a fraction of the length of a regulation course.
Who Chaparral suits
- Beginners and juniors: a slope of 98 from the longest tees is gentle.
- A short day: a loop on an arrival afternoon, or a second round after a morning at a full-length course.
- Winter visitors: the course is close to Bullhead City's RV resorts and chain hotels, and social memberships come with the pool.
- Groups who want lunch: the city-run restaurant and bar sit on site.
If you want a full-length test, go to Laughlin Ranch, about 10 minutes from the Holiday Inn Express, at 7,155 yards and a 143 slope. For an even shorter round, the Riverview RV Resort par-3 nine (1,160 yards) sells public tee times.
Chaparral golf course Bullhead City rates and booking
Chaparral does not publish a rate card. The club says to call 928-758-3939. An undated Arizona Golfer listing showed $65 for two players for 18 holes with a cart, which was not verified.
Book through the club site (chaparralgolfbhc.com) or by phone. No booking window is published. For rates at other courses, see Laughlin golf rates and cheap golf in Laughlin.
When to play Chaparral
Once the reseed is done, November is one of the best golf months on the river: Laughlin's normal high is 74.1F, with new turf and rates usually below the January to March peak. December and January bring mid-60s afternoons and cold mornings, about 44F, and frost delays are possible on early tee times. January to March is the winter-visitor peak, when morning times go first.
From May to September, highs run from about 95F to 110F at Laughlin. Chaparral is open dawn to dusk year-round, so a short loop at first light is the summer option. Ride a cart and carry plenty of water.
The Arizona clock
Chaparral Golf Course in Bullhead City runs on Arizona time, with no daylight saving. From November 1, 2026 to March 14, 2027, Arizona is one hour ahead of Laughlin: 9:00 AM at Chaparral is 8:00 AM on Casino Drive. If you are staying in a Laughlin casino, leave an hour earlier by the hotel clock. From March 14, 2027 both sides show the same time. The Laughlin time zone guide explains it.

Chaparral in a Bullhead City golf week
Chaparral works as the short course in a mix. A Bullhead-based week might pair it with Laughlin Ranch for the big round, Huukan Golf Club in Fort Mohave for a gentler 18, and Riverview's par 3s for a quick nine. The Bullhead City golf guide covers the whole group, and the Riverview golf course guide explains who can play the RV resort nine.
