The tees are named for turtles. The drop in slope from Leatherback (129) to Hawksbill (119) is the biggest on the card, so a mid-handicap group that finds water stressful can move up one set and play a much friendlier course. Only strong players need the Snapping tees.
Conditions
The research found no published overseed or aerification schedule for Shell Landing. Most Mississippi coast courses are bermudagrass, and many let it go dormant (tan but playable) from about December to March and aerify greens in summer. Ask the shop about recent aerification if you are booking from June to August.

Two east-side events matter for a Shell Landing Golf Club trip. Cruisin' the Coast, the first full week of October, is the hardest hotel week of the year along the whole coast. The Peter Anderson Arts & Crafts Festival in Ocean Springs (November 7-8 in 2026) draws about 100,000 visitors and fills east-end hotels. For a budget group: the Hampton Inn at I-10 exit 50 has free breakfast and free parking, and sits right on the interstate for Shell Landing and The Preserve. Its two-bed rooms have doubles, not queens.
For couples: The Roost puts you in walkable downtown Ocean Springs, with kitchenette suites and a cocktail bar, but most suites sleep two.
For a casino night: the Palace and Golden Nugget are at Point Cadet, the closest casinos to Gautier. Harrah's has a big casino resort and Caesars Rewards discounts at Grand Bear.

Shell Landing and The Preserve are the two full-length public courses east of Biloxi. A typical east-side plan is The Preserve on a Tuesday or Wednesday in fall, when it is $175 rather than $225, and Shell Landing the next day. Ocean Springs is the place to eat between them. Gulf Hills in Ocean Springs closed its 18 on October 31, 2019; whether a nine-hole course is open there now is unconfirmed. St. Andrews in Ocean Springs is closed.
