The tee ratings come from third-party cards, not the USGA database. Older GolfPass data lists a 6,761-yard back tee on the Pines at 72.5 / 123, so a longer set likely exists. Chronogolf shows a 6,162-yard longest tee on the Oaks at 70.3 / 117, so cards differ. Prices are third-party snapshots seen in 2026. Rates change.

The Pines course

The Pines is the longer of the two and runs through upland pine forest north of downtown Fort Walton Beach. It opened in 1962. GolfLink and GolfPass credit Bill Amick, while some listings name Jim Hughes, who designed the Oaks.

The big news is the 2025 renovation. It cost $613,710, paid from the Okaloosa County Tourist Development Tax, and replaced all 18 greens with TifEagle bermuda. The club site calls the Pines newly updated with a reimagined layout. Exact start and reopening dates were not published.

Our take: the city's longer course, with new greens and dynamic rates that often sit in the $40s to $60s. It is a sound value round for a group staying on Okaloosa Island or in Fort Walton Beach. See the FWB Pines course guide.

The Oaks course

The Oaks is the second 18, opened in 1975 to a Jim Hughes design. It is shorter and tighter, with narrow oak-lined fairways and more water than the Pines. From the 6,358-yard Blue tees the slope is only 116, so accuracy matters more than length.

The club record calls the Oaks the easier course and a good pick for higher handicaps, or for a second round the same day as the Pines. Fees seen are slightly lower: one local guide puts morning public rates around $58 with cart. More in the FWB Oaks course guide.

What a round costs at Fort Walton Beach Golf Club

There is no rate card. The club's rates page says prices are dynamic and change by demand and weather, often hourly, and it shows no dollar amounts. What we found:

  • Pines, August 2026: GolfNow prepaid deals $36.99 to $42.28 with cart.
  • Pines, July 2026 Monday: about $54 to $67 with cart (third-party summary).
  • Pines, peak: The Golfing Insider estimates $72 to $82 with cart; Golf Digest and GolfLink list $72.
  • Oaks, August 2026 Sunday: $36.90 to $43.31 with cart.
  • Members: 50% of the dynamic rate. Public juniors 50% off; junior members 75% off.

The cart fee was $20 in August 2026. At the August 25, 2026 council meeting the golf director proposed raising it to $32 alongside a new GPS cart fleet. Whether that rise has taken effect was not confirmed, so check when you book.

Fort Walton Beach Golf Club is one of the cheaper ways to play 18 near Destin. Shalimar Pointe and Bluewater Bay also show deals in the $30s to $50s. Our guide to cheap golf in Destin ranks the low-cost rounds, and Destin golf rates lists fees course by course.

Booking and the rules that matter

Book on the club's Teesnap page. The club says rates lock when you book, and a no-show or a cancellation within 24 hours costs 50% of the booking. The public booking window is not published, so check the tee sheet for how far out it opens. GolfNow also lists Pines times.

Other practical notes:

  • Hours: 6 AM to 7 PM daily, per the club site.
  • Loyalty: The Turn program runs in the FWB app.
  • Phone: 850-833-9664 (the club site). Chronogolf and GolfPass also list 850-833-9528.
  • Dress code, overseed and aerification dates: not published.

For how the other courses book, see Destin tee times.

Practice facilities

A lighted TrackMan driving range opened on September 26, 2025, shared by both courses. The Performance Center, five TrackMan iO simulator bays in the former Edwin Watts space, was due to open in winter 2026-27. That makes the city club one of the better places near Fort Walton Beach to practise in the evening. Our driving range guide for Destin covers the other ranges.

Winter at the city club

The club home page advertises a Snowbird Membership Special, but the terms were not published there in October 2026. Call the pro shop for the price and dates. Members pay 50% of the dynamic rate, which is the main saving for long stays.

Winter Spark 9-hole social leagues run on Thursdays from November 5, 2026 and Sundays from November 8, 2026. They are free to join and you pay per round, a simple way for snowbirds to find a regular game.

Overseed policy is not published for either course. Many local bermuda courses on this coast go dormant and tan from about December to March but stay playable. See Destin golf winter conditions and the Destin winter golf guide for how a snowbird season fits together.

If you are comparing winter memberships, Shalimar Pointe, about 20 minutes from Okaloosa Island, publishes a snowbird membership from $450 a month or $1,150 for three months for a single golfer (October 1 to March 31, tax extra). See the Shalimar Pointe course guide.

After Hurricane Isaias

Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Destin on October 9, 2026 as a Category 2, and Okaloosa Island and Fort Walton Beach had wind damage. The club site listed both courses as open when read on October 26, 2026, but its latest news posts were from before the storm. Call ahead for current conditions.

Where to stay

Okaloosa Island is the natural base, across the Brooks Bridge.

Gator Lakes at Hurlburt Field is also close, but civilians need a one-time base pass first. Our Fort Walton Beach golf guide covers the whole west end, and where to stay in Destin for golf compares every base.
