Winter golf in Mississippi means the Gulf Coast, where normal highs run about 60-63F from December to February. It is the cheapest season for both golf and casino rooms outside holiday weeks and Mardi Gras weekends. The trade-off is dormant, tan bermuda on courses that do not overseed.
This guide covers what a winter trip to Biloxi, Gulfport and the rest of the coast looks like: the weather from NOAA normals, which courses lower their rates and by how much, how the turf plays, snowbird memberships and cards, and the winter events that move hotel prices. Rates were seen in October 2026 and change, so check before you book.

Winter weather on the Mississippi Gulf Coast
| Month | High (F) | Low (F) | Rain days | Wind (mph) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| December | 62.2 | 45.9 | 9.2 | 6.5 |
| January | 59.8 | 43.6 | 9.5 | 7.3 |
| February | 63.2 | 47.3 | 8.9 | 7.6 |
Figures are NOAA normals for the Biloxi beachfront and the 2016-2025 average wind at Gulfport-Biloxi airport. Expect cool starts, comfortable afternoons and a breeze, with rain on about two days a week. Mid-morning and mid-day tee times are the sweet spot. Inland at Fallen Oak and Grand Bear, January lows average about 41F, so early times there can bring frost delays. Our Biloxi weather by month guide has the full year.
Winter golf in Mississippi: green fees by course
| Course | Winter rate (seen Oct 2026) | Dates | Rest of year |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Preserve | $175, $150 after 3 PM | Nov 16, 2026-Feb 14, 2027 | $250 spring mornings |
| Windance | $90 | Dec-Feb | $110 peak |
| The Bridges | $89 weekday / $99 weekend | Dec 1-Feb 13 | $119 / $129 from Feb 14 |
| The Oaks | $89 weekday morning | Dec 2026-Feb 2027 | $99 / $109 spring and fall |
| Sunkist | $79 / $89 (no seasonal tiers) | All year | Same |
| Diamondhead Cardinal | $115 rack (no seasonal tiers) | All year | Same |
| Bayou Vista | $28 with cart (flat rate) | All year | Same |
The biggest winter saving is at The Preserve, where the morning rate falls by $75 from its spring peak. Windance saves $20 on its peak rate, and The Bridges saves $10 to $30 depending on the season you compare. Sunkist, Diamondhead and Bayou Vista charge the same all year, so their twilight rates are the way to save. The Bridges' seasonal dates come from the Hollywood Casino golf page as recorded in our hotel research. Our The Preserve course guide and The Bridges course guide have the full rate cards.
How the courses play in winter
Coast courses are mostly bermudagrass, with some zoysia fairways. Overseeding is optional: some courses overseed tees and fairways with ryegrass in October and November, but many leave the bermuda to go dormant, tan but playable, from about December to March. No coast-wide schedule exists, and most courses do not publish their practice, so ask the pro shop before you book if green grass matters to you.
Short days matter too. Diamondhead's afternoon rate tiers and its walking rule (walking only after 2:30 PM) are listed for daylight saving time, so ask the shop when the cheaper times start in winter. In winter, take a late-morning time rather than gambling on a 2 PM twilight start finishing 18.
Snowbird golf: cards, memberships and monthly options
For golfers staying a month or more, a card or membership beats paying daily rates:
- Bayou Vista sells unlimited golf for $55 a month single, $85 a month for a couple or $600 a year, plus a $10 cart fee. It is Gulfport's flat-rate city course, so this is the cheapest steady golf on the coast.
- Windance sells monthly associate memberships from $105 to $225 a month, depending on age bracket.
- The Oaks Card (the 2027 card is on sale) cuts green fees 30-50%, moves twilight to 1 PM and includes a free first round worth up to $99.
- The Sunkist 2026 Loyalty Card cuts green fees by $30 a round, to $49 Monday to Thursday and $59 Friday to Sunday, and includes a free round and a free replay.
- Snowbird offers: Sunkist has a Snowbird booking class on its tee sheet and Diamondhead posted a 2026 Snowbirds offer. Neither set of terms was published in our research, so ask the shops.
Winter hotels and prices
Winter is the cheapest season for casino hotels outside the holidays. The usual pattern still holds: Friday and Saturday nights cost far more than Sunday to Thursday. When checked in October 2026, Hollywood Casino Gulf Coast midweek nights in December and January were mostly $63.98 including its resort fee, next to The Bridges. Hotel Legends showed a Saturday in early December at $199 for a queen suite, against $259 for a Saturday in late November. Gulf Hills Hotel in Ocean Springs had a MIDWEEK15 promo for 15% off Sunday to Thursday stays through December 31, 2026.
One caveat for non-casino stays: the White House Hotel closes its pool from November to February. Our weekday vs weekend Biloxi hotels guide has the full rate spreads.
Winter events that move prices
- Christmas on the Water, the first weekend of December in Biloxi: a lighted boat parade and fireworks with local crowds and little hotel effect.
- Christmas to New Year: casino hotels price up for New Year's Eve and holiday weekends.
- Mardi Gras: Carnival opens January 6, 2027, parades run in every coast town from late January, and Fat Tuesday is February 9, 2027. Parades close US 90 and downtown streets, and hotels fill on the final parade weekend. See Mardi Gras Biloxi golf.
One winter loss: the Ship Island ferry does not run from November to February.
Who winter golf suits
Winter on the Mississippi coast suits golfers who want lower green fees, cheap midweek rooms and quiet tee sheets, and who do not mind tan fairways. It suits snowbirds staying a month or more, who can use Bayou Vista's monthly unlimited golf or a Windance associate membership. It suits less well a group that wants lush, green conditions; for that, April or October is better.
A sample winter week
Arrive Sunday and stay through Thursday to keep rooms cheap. Play The Oaks and Windance at their winter rates, add The Bridges any day but Tuesday when it is closed, and fill the gaps with twilight at Sunkist or a cheap round at Bayou Vista. Book Beau Rivage if Fallen Oak is on the list; it is open only to Beau Rivage guests.
