The Classic Club in Palm Desert is a public Arnold Palmer design that anyone can book, run by Troon on the valley floor north of I-10. It plays 7,322 yards from the back, reopens from its 2026 overseed on November 11, and showed $135 for a June 2026 morning. The land is being marketed for development, but no closure date is set.
This guide covers how to book it, what it costs, the tees, the overseed calendar and what the redevelopment news actually says. Prices were seen between June and early November 2026 and change by season and time of day.
Quick facts
- Access: public daily-fee, managed by Troon.
- Book: the club's EZLinks "Best Available" site, Troon Access+, or the golf shop for three or more tee times.

Classic Club Palm Desert tees
| Tee | Yards | Men rating/slope | Women rating/slope |
|---|---|---|---|
| Black | 7,322 | 75.4/142 | not rated |
| Blue | 6,711 | 72.6/134 | not rated |
| White | 6,229 | 70.4/127 | 76.7/139 |
| Gold | 5,782 | 68.2/122 | 74.1/132 |
| Purple | 5,279 | 65.9/115 | 71.3/126 |
| Orange | 4,219 | 60.9/103 | 65.1/112 |
Six tee sets give the course a wide range. The Black tees are for low handicaps only. Most visiting groups belong on the White or Gold, and the Orange tees at 4,219 yards make it a fair option for beginners and shorter hitters in a mixed group.
The round at the Classic Club
The Classic Club is a big desert course on the flat valley floor off Cook Street, long from the tips. It is Troon-run, so expect a full service operation: a driving range, chipping area and putting green, rental clubs (Callaway, $90 on the club's booking page) and a food and drink voucher of $25 with most bookings.
House rules matter here. Carts are mandatory, two per foursome, so there is no walking and no single riders. The club's pace target is 4 hours 20 minutes. Outside alcohol is prohibited, and the booking page says it can get a group removed without a refund. Cancel at least 72 hours out to avoid penalties. If you want more golf after your round, the shop sells same-day replay rounds.
Google reviewers rate it 4.7 from 407 reviews.
What the Classic Club costs
| Figure | Price | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| Summer morning | $135 | 7:30 am on June 20, 2026, La Quinta Golf Tour listing |
| Winter and spring | not published | no rate card found |
| Resident rate | not published | sold through the Resident Portal |
| Included | $25 food and drink voucher | most bookings, club booking page |
| Rental clubs | $90 | Callaway, club booking page |
That is thin data. The $135 summer figure is high for June, when many valley courses drop well below $100. Peak rates from January to April were not found, so check the tee sheet for your dates.
For comparison, the city-owned Desert Willow Firecliff course publishes estimated January to mid-April bands of $125 to $210 prime, and $115 to $180 prime for October to December. More detail is in Palm Springs golf rates.
Booking windows and policies
To book a Classic Club Palm Desert tee time, use the club's own EZLinks site or Troon Access+. The booking page conflicts with itself: its policy text says tee times open 60 days out, while its FAQ says 90 days. Plan on 60 to be safe. Groups needing three or more tee times must book through the golf shop rather than online. Read Palm Springs tee times for how the other valley courses handle booking windows.
Overseed and summer closures
The Classic Club, like nearly every course in the valley, overseeds its bermuda with rye each fall. Its 2019 practice was to overseed tees, fairways and greens and leave the rough dormant.
- 2026 overseed: closed October 12, reopening November 11, per a Golf Zoo listing and a Greenskeeper alert (one gives November 10, the other November 11).
- After reopening: about three weeks of cart-path-only play.
- Summer 2026 aerification: July 1 to August 31.
The timing fits neatly around Desert Willow. In 2026 Firecliff closes for overseed from November 9 to December 25, just as the Classic Club reopens, while Desert Willow Mountain View reopened October 23. A Palm Desert group in mid-November to December can pair the Classic Club with Mountain View. See Palm Springs golf overseed for every course's dates.
The redevelopment news
Here is what is known and nothing more:
- A commercial real estate listing (Crexi) markets about 158 acres at Cook Street and Varner Road.
- An architect's master plan prepared for the Berger Foundation shows 1,050 homes and 925 hotel keys.
- No closure date has been announced.
- The course was open and Troon-run for winter 2026-27, with a Thanksgiving Day shotgun on its booking page.
So the Classic Club Palm Desert course is a safe booking for this season, but its long-term future is uncertain. If you are a snowbird planning several winters, do not build a rotation around it as a permanent fixture.
Classic Club Palm Desert vs the nearby courses
| Course | Back tees (yds, rating/slope) | Fee seen | Drive from downtown |
|---|---|---|---|
| Classic Club | 7,322 (75.4/142) | $135 (June 20, 2026 morning) | 23 min |
| Desert Willow Firecliff | 7,056 (74.1/141) | $125-$210 prime est. (Jan to mid-April) | 23 min |
| Desert Willow Mountain View | 6,913 (73.0/132) | $115-$180 prime est. (Oct-Dec) | 23 min |
| Marriott's Shadow Ridge | 7,006 (73.7/135) | not published | 20 min |
| Desert Falls | 7,093 (74.0/131) | $150 with cart (GolfLink estimate, undated) | 24 min |
| Mountain Vista Santa Rosa | 6,720 (72.1/127) | $63.48-$115.49 (Nov 3, 2026) | 27 min |
The Classic Club is the longest of the group from the back tees and the only one here with a slope over 141. Desert Willow is the better-known pair and city-owned with resident deals. Mountain Vista, at the Sun City Palm Desert community, is the gentler and cheaper option. Shadow Ridge is Nick Faldo's first US design and suits Marriott villa stays.
Is the Classic Club worth it?
For a group that wants a long, well-run public test in the middle of the valley, yes, especially in November and December 2026 when Firecliff is closed. The trade-offs are a mandatory cart, a summer price that was not cheap, no published winter rates and an uncertain future for the land. Players who want a value round nearby are better served at Mountain Vista.
