Green-fee ranges: Tucson golf resorts compared: Ventana Canyon, Starr Pass, La Paloma, Omni, Dove Mountain and Tubac

Tucson golf resorts split into two kinds. Starr Pass, Omni Tucson National and Tubac sell public tee times, so staying there is about convenience. Loews Ventana Canyon and the Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain are the way onto courses you otherwise cannot book. The Westin La Paloma sits beside a private club.

That difference matters more than thread counts. Below, the six main Tucson golf resorts are compared on the golf each one unlocks, who else is on the course, and the fees seen in 2026. Room rates were not captured, so treat the fee figures as add-ons to whatever rate you find.

Quick facts

  • Golf you can only get by staying: Ventana Canyon (Loews, the Lodge) and Dove Mountain (Ritz-Carlton).
  • Most holes at the door: Omni Tucson National, 36.
  • Closest to downtown: Starr Pass, 11 minutes to the course.
  • Priciest add-ons seen: Ritz-Carlton, about $68.73 resort charge plus $42 valet.
  • Quietest and farthest: Tubac, about 60 minutes south.
  • Private next door: La Paloma, Westin guest golf not confirmed for 2026.

Loews Ventana Canyon: the key to the Fazio courses

The Ventana Canyon Mountain and Canyon courses belong to the member-owned Ventana Canyon Golf & Racquet Club. The two courses alternate daily between member play and resort play, and staying at Loews (or the Lodge at Ventana Canyon) is how visitors get tee times. Mountain has the famous 107-yard 3rd over a ravine; Canyon finishes with a par 5 to a partial island green below the hotel.

Watch out for: the daily resort charge, and the guest tee-time allocation on your dates. Club rentals include six balls. More in our Ventana Canyon golf guide.

JW Marriott Starr Pass: the best course you could book anyway

The Club at Starr Pass is 27 desert holes in the Tucson Mountains with all-new TifEagle greens, bunkers rebuilt in 2024 and a clubhouse that reopened on November 1, 2025. The course sells public tee times, so the resort is about walking to the first tee, not access. Resort-guest priority is not published.

Watch out for: the $49 resort fee, paid parking and renovation work that was listed through April-July 2026; check it is finished. See the Starr Pass golf guide.

Westin La Paloma: next to a private club

La Paloma Country Club is a private, Troon-managed club with 27 Jack Nicklaus holes (Canyon, Ridge and Hill). Older sources, including a 2021 Troon magazine piece and hotel listings, say Westin guests could play. The current 2026 guest policy was not confirmed, so ask before you book the room for golf.

Watch out for: paid parking each night, and the Cologuard Classic week in March, when the club hosts the PGA Tour Champions. Our La Paloma golf guide has the status.

Omni Tucson National: 36 holes and the tour history

Omni Tucson National has two 18s on site. Catalina is the 1962 tree-lined course whose 18th was the PGA Tour and Champions Tour finishing hole; tour events were played here through 2023. Sonoran is a 2005 Tom Lehman par 70 with 69 bunkers. Both take public play, with carts included.

Watch out for: northwest Tucson is a fair drive from the foothills and the airport. Crooked Tree is 8 minutes away for a cheaper extra round. See the Omni Tucson National golf guide and the Catalina course guide.

The Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain: the splurge

The Golf Club at Dove Mountain is a 27-hole Nicklaus Signature course that hosted the WGC-Accenture Match Play from 2009 to 2014. Tee times are for members and Ritz-Carlton guests, booked through Guest Relations or the club. Peak rates were listed at $250 to $360 in 2024.

Watch out for: the highest add-ons of any Tucson golf resort, and the drive: more than 40 minutes to the airport and central Tucson. The neighbouring Gallery club is private. See the Dove Mountain course guide.

Tubac Golf Resort: ranch-style and quiet

Tubac Golf Resort has 27 holes on the old Otero Ranch, mesquite-lined with mountain views; Rancho #4 is the Tin Cup lay-up hole from the 1996 film. It sells public times, and the resort offers stay-and-play packages (check rates for your dates). The resort changed hands in 2026.

Watch out for: the Anza nine is closed for new bentgrass greens until about January 2027, and Tubac is about an hour from downtown Tucson.

Timing a resort stay

Tucson golf resorts run their highest rates from January to April, when courses are overseeded and in their best condition. A few weeks deserve extra care:

  • Gem and mineral shows, about January 27 to February 14, 2027: the biggest hotel crunch of the year in Tucson, especially along I-10 and downtown.
  • Cologuard Classic week in March: La Paloma hosts it, so the Westin and other Foothills hotels are busier. Resale listings show March 18-21, 2027, not confirmed by the tour.
  • Festival of Books, March 13-14, 2027, and Easter on March 28, 2027.
  • October: overseed closures are common from mid-September into October. Multi-course resorts usually stagger their courses so one stays open, but check your dates.

Summer is the opposite: the lowest course rates of the year and highs over 100F in June and July, with dawn tee times and afternoon monsoon storms from July to September.

What we could not confirm

Dated room rates for November 2026 and February-March 2027 could not be read on October 26, 2026, because the brand booking engines blocked fetching. The 2026 guest-golf policy at La Paloma, the Omni and Westin resort fees, guest priority at Starr Pass and the booking window at Dove Mountain were also unpublished. Ask each resort directly, and get guest golf access in writing when it is the reason for the stay.

Which one is for you

If you want golf you cannot otherwise play, choose Loews or the Ritz-Carlton. If you want the best public resort golf and a central base, choose Starr Pass. If you want the most holes without driving, Omni Tucson National. For a quiet stay far from the city, Tubac. Our best golf resort in Tucson guide matches each to a type of golfer, and where to stay in Tucson for golf covers non-resort bases. The Tucson golf trip cost guide shows how the add-ons stack up.

The Westin La Paloma sits beside the private La Paloma club, and Casino Del Sol has Sewailo on its grounds.

Which Tucson resort courses can non-guests play?

Starr Pass, Omni Tucson National, Sewailo and Tubac all sell public tee times. Ventana Canyon is for members and guests of Loews and the Lodge at Ventana Canyon, and Dove Mountain is for members and Ritz-Carlton guests. La Paloma is private.

What are the resort fees at Tucson golf resorts?

Fees seen in 2026: Loews Ventana Canyon $39 plus tax (from a 2026 group page), the JW Marriott Starr Pass $49 a night (Marriott.com), the Ritz-Carlton about $68.73 (online travel agents) and Tubac about $31.98 including parking. Omni's was shown at $32.49 by one agent and not confirmed. Fees change, so check when booking.

What do Tucson golf resorts cost per night?

We could not capture dated room rates: the brand booking engines blocked fetching on October 26, 2026. The only Tubac prices seen were private group rates, not public rates, so ask each resort for your dates.

Is the Cologuard Classic at a Tucson golf resort?

It moved in 2024 from Omni Tucson National's Catalina course, where it was played from 2015 to 2023, to La Paloma Country Club, next to the Westin La Paloma. La Paloma is private, so it is spectators only. Resale listings show March 18-21, 2027, not confirmed by the tour.

Which Tucson golf resort is closest to the airport?

Casino Del Sol is about 15 minutes from Tucson International. Among the classic golf resorts, Starr Pass is closest to downtown, 11 minutes to the course. The Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain is 40-plus minutes from the airport.

Is Tubac Golf Resort fully open this winter?

Not all 27 holes. The Anza nine is closed for new greens from October 2026 to about January 2027, so everyone plays Rancho and Otero until then. Expect busier tee sheets this fall.
