This guide says who can play each and gives you public courses to book instead.
A note on the files: the list below uses what our research found, not what clubs may tell you privately. "No public tee times found" means we found none, not that a guest invitation is impossible. Ask a member, or call the club, before you assume anything. Information was read in November 2026.

Bear Creek Golf Club, Murrieta
Bear Creek is a private, member-owned, invitation-only club inside a gated community at 22640 Bear Creek Dr N. It is a Jack Nicklaus signature design that opened in 1982, and from the West tips it is rated 74.2 with a slope of 140. Google reviewers give it 4.7 stars from 224 reviews.
There is no public, resort or tee-time-by-the-day access. Only members and their accompanied guests play, and you contact the club about membership. It is about 18 minutes and 12 miles from Old Town Temecula. The practical advice: if you know a member, ask. Otherwise a public Murrieta alternative is the Golf Club at Rancho California, covered in our guide to that course.
Canyon Lake Golf & Country Club
Canyon Lake is a member club run by the Canyon Lake property owners' association, at 32001 Railroad Canyon Rd, and it opened in 1969. The association's golf page says annual memberships are open to both residents and non-residents, and members can buy rounds for guests. The same page limits non-residents to three guests a day. Directories call the club private or invitation only, and GolfPass labels it semi-private.
No public tee times were found, so the route is membership or a member's guest. The golf shop phone is 951-246-1782. Google reviewers give it 4.4 stars from 366 reviews, and it is about 32 minutes and 21 miles from Old Town. For more on the area, read the Lake Elsinore and Canyon Lake golf guide.
Pauma Valley Country Club
Pauma Valley is listed as private, for members and their guests only, in several directories. No public tee times were found, and there is no 2026 source in our files beyond the listings, so we cannot say more about the course. The club phone is 760-742-3721. Google reviewers give it 4.7 stars from 199 reviews. It is about 34 minutes and 19 miles from Old Town, and the nearest hotel in our data is the Pala Casino Spa & Resort, about 17 minutes away. More in our Pauma Valley Country Club guide.
Rancho Monserate Country Club
Rancho Monserate is a nine-hole, par-27 course inside a 55-plus resident-owned community on Dulin Rd in Fallbrook. It was designed by Robert Trent Jones and opened in 1973. It is for members, residents and their guests only, and no public play was found. An aggregator lists the phone as 760-728-2316, and the evidence is from listings only, with no 2026 source. It is about 18 minutes from Old Town and 3 minutes from the Quality Inn Fallbrook I-15. For public golf in the same town, see the Fallbrook golf guide.
de Anza Country Club, Borrego Springs
De Anza is a private club in Borrego Springs, an off-board desert trip of about 1.5 hours from Temecula, with a map estimate of 106 minutes. It is the one club here where the files point to a possible route: a 2018 Borrego Sun report said outside play continues, and trial memberships are listed. Visitor access and fees are not published, so call 760-767-5105. The championship tees play 6,778 yards at 72.1/127. The club hosted the Borrego Springs Golf Classic on February 20, 2026. See the Borrego Springs golf guide from Temecula, and the Palm Springs side of the story in the private golf clubs in Palm Springs guide.
Small private community courses in Hemet and Homeland
Several nine-hole community courses in the Hemet area are listed as private, for residents and their guests, with no public booking found. They are the Lakes at Hemet West, Panorama Village, Colonial Country Club, Highland Palms Senior Estates & Country Club and Golden Era Golf Course. Their status is unclear because no operator page was read, so call first. They are not on the map. The Hemet and San Jacinto golf guide covers the public alternatives there.
What to play instead
