Fact box: Closed golf courses in Orlando: what closed or changed, and what to play instead

Closed golf courses in Orlando include Hunter's Creek (up for auction in November 2026), EastWood (closed for housing around 2020), Kissimmee Golf Club (2018), the Errol Estate course in Apopka (land sold in 2025), and older losses such as Meadow Woods, Winter Springs, Deer Run and Sabal Point. Others changed rather than closed: Grand Cypress's 27 holes became one 18, and Osprey Ridge became Tranquilo.

Old maps, directories and stale booking pages still show many of these as open. This guide sets out what the research files say about each, which courses have an unclear status, and what to play instead. Facts were checked in November 2026. Closed and unclear courses are not on our map, so they are not linked.

Hunter's Creek

A Marcus & Millichap listing, read on November 4, 2026, describes the former Hunter's Creek Golf Course as currently closed: 187 acres with a par-72 layout and 13 lakes, offered at a reserve auction with a starting bid of $1.25 million and bidding from November 2 to 4, 2026. The land is zoned Planned Development, and residential redevelopment is subject to approvals. GolfLink shows no tee times. The exact closure date and the auction result were not found.

Instead, play Shingle Creek, the public resort course near International Drive, or the east-side public courses below.

EastWood

EastWood, a 1989 Lloyd Clifton par 72 in east Orlando, was announced for closure in August 2020, when Benge Development took 72.5 acres for a 304-lot subdivision (GrowthSpotter, March 2, 2020). GolfPass lists it closed for business, its website does not load, and only a stale GolfNow facility page remains.

Instead: Eagle Creek, a long Garl and Swan par 73 near the airport, from $40 on GolfNow for November 5, 2026, or Stoneybrook East, from $39.99. More in Lake Nona golf.

Kissimmee Golf Club

Kissimmee Golf Club opened in 1962 (per TeeOff) on Florida Coach Drive. GolfPass and Foretee list it as closed in 2018, its last reviews date from May 2018, and the website no longer resolves. GolfNow keeps a stale details page with no tee times.

Instead: Falcon's Fire near Disney's main gate, or Kissimmee Bay on the St. Cloud side. See Kissimmee golf courses.

Errol Estate, Apopka

The old 27-hole Errol Estate course in Apopka has been shut for years. The Apopka Chief reported on July 30, 2025 that the defunct course, clubhouse and tennis had closed, the clubhouse had been demolished, and the land was sold on July 24-25, 2025 to Driven Apopka LLC. The buyer's plans are unknown, and an earlier "New Errol" plan for a new course, lodge and homes stalled in legal disputes.

Instead: Sweetwater in Apopka, a former private club now selling public tee times from $25, or Forest Lake in Ocoee.

The older closures

  • Deer Run (Casselberry): listed by Foretee as closed in 2019; local news reported residents' fears of redevelopment.
  • Sabal Point (near Longwood): Fox 35 said in February 2016 that it had been closed for about a decade.
  • Winter Springs Golf Club: listed closed by GolfPass and GolfAdvisor; Foretee gives 2006.
  • Meadow Woods (south-east Orlando): listed closed by GolfAdvisor; Foretee gives 2007.

Instead, in Seminole County: Casselberry Golf Club, with its $399 monthly pass, or Wekiva in Longwood. See Lake Mary golf courses.

Grand Cypress: the North, South and East nines, which hosted the 2010 LPGA Tour Championship, closed in November 2019 along with the Villas. Jack Nicklaus redesigned them into one 18, which re-emerged in 2024 as the Cypress Course: par 72, about 7,000 yards. The Links Course, Nicklaus's tribute to the Old Course at St Andrews and formerly the New Course, stayed open. Both are now Grand Cypress Golf at Evermore, open to the public 60 days ahead, with preferred rates and earlier booking for Evermore and Conrad guests. The Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress next door is no longer a golf resort in its own right. See the Cypress Course guide and Grand Cypress golf.

Osprey Ridge: Tom Fazio designed it for Disney in 1992, renovated it, and it reopened in October 2014 as Tranquilo, the Four Seasons Resort Orlando's course. Four Seasons says play is for resort guests and club members only. See the Tranquilo course guide and Disney World golf courses.

Two clubs moved the other way. The Legacy Club at Alaqua Lakes used to sell public tee times and is now part of Heathrow Country Club's 36-hole membership. Sweetwater in Apopka was a private community club and now sells public tee times.

Temporary closures in 2026

Status unclear: call first

These courses still appear in directories, but the research could not confirm they are open. None is on our map.

  • Grenelefe East and South (near Haines City): the resort site returned an error, and a report on Lennar redevelopment of the former resort surfaced without a confirmed date. Likely closed.
  • Rock Springs Ridge (Apopka): a 1997 course; its domain does not resolve and it was missing from GolfNow's Apopka search, but no closure report was found.
  • Mount Plymouth Golf Club: not confirmed.
  • The Plantation Golf Club, Leesburg (Otter Creek and Cranes Roost): domain not working.
  • Bishops Gate (Howey-in-the-Hills): website shows a web-host placeholder.
  • Orange Lake Resort's Crane's Bend and Legends Walk nines: no public inventory found.
  • Golden Bear Club at Keene's Pointe and Windermere Country Club: private clubs whose sites could not be reached.

Off the course, Drive Shack Orlando, a driving-range venue near International Drive, is listed as permanently closed by Tripadvisor; treat it as closed unless confirmed.
