Courses west to east: Driving to a Biloxi golf trip: drive times, routes and first rounds

A drive to Biloxi golf trip is easy from most of the South. New Orleans is about 2 hours, Jackson about 3 hours 20 minutes, Birmingham about 5 hours 45 minutes, and Atlanta, Memphis and Houston each about 7 to 7.5 hours. Dallas is about 10 hours 20 minutes. Which way you come in decides which courses are on your way.

This guide lists drive times from the main drive-in cities, the route for each, and a first round to play on arrival. Times are free-flow router estimates to Beau Rivage in Biloxi, with no traffic; Gulfport is within about 10 minutes either way. Prices were seen in October 2026 and change.

Coming from the north: US 49 and the Saucier courses

Drivers from Jackson, Memphis and Dallas finish on US 49 south through Hattiesburg. The route passes the Saucier courses before you reach the coast, so you can play on the way in.

  • Grand Bear is a public Jack Nicklaus course in the national forest, 7,204 yards and slope 143 from the back, with no houses on it. No dated rate card was found in October 2026; GolfLink estimated about $170 with cart, and other directories quote $65 to $150 by day and season. Our Grand Bear course guide has the detail.
  • Fallen Oak is the Tom Fazio course nearby, open only to guests of Beau Rivage. You cannot stop and play it on the drive unless your Beau Rivage stay includes it; see Fallen Oak tee time.

Inland Saucier runs about 3F colder at night than the beach, so winter morning tee times can see frost delays.

Coming from the east: I-10 through Mobile

Atlanta, Birmingham and Nashville drivers take I-65 south to Mobile, then I-10 west into Mississippi. The east-end courses are the first ones you reach.

  • Shell Landing in Gautier, a Davis Love III course, is about 25 minutes from downtown Biloxi off I-10. Rates are not posted online, so call. See our Shell Landing course guide.
  • The Preserve in Vancleave, Jerry Pate's course just north of I-10, is about 28 minutes from downtown Biloxi. Fall 2026 rates were $175 Tuesday-Wednesday and $225 Thursday-Sunday, or $150 after 3 PM, with cart, range balls and tax included.

The research flags I-10 through Mobile at rush hour and the Mobile I-10 tunnel as places to add time. Our Mobile to Biloxi guide covers that end, including Alabama rounds on the way.

Coming from the west: I-10 from Houston, Baton Rouge and New Orleans

Houston, Baton Rouge and New Orleans drivers come east on I-10 and hit the west-end cluster first.

Course Where Price seen (Oct 2026)
The BridgesBay St. Louis$99 Mon/Wed/Thu, $109 Fri-Sun; closed Tuesdays
Diamondhead CardinalDiamondhead, I-10 exit 16$115 rack; online about $70-$107 all-in
The OaksPass Christian, I-10 exit 24$99 weekday / $109 weekend; $39-$49 late

The Oaks is about 20 minutes from Gulfport and about an hour from New Orleans by its own description. The Bridges sits on the grounds of Hollywood Casino Gulf Coast, whose hotel Golf Package starts at $119 for a night with unlimited golf. See New Orleans to Biloxi and our The Bridges course guide.

Timing the drive

  • Leave early on travel day and book a twilight round. Twilight rates seen for October-November 2026 included The Oaks at $59-$69 from about 2 PM and $39-$49 from about 4 PM, Windance at $85 from 2 PM and The Bridges at $65-$75 from 2 PM.
  • Avoid rush hours in New Orleans and Mobile, and the Mobile tunnel at busy times.
  • Avoid event weeks if you can. US 90 is slow all week during Cruisin' the Coast in early October and closed for parades on Mardi Gras weekends; the Coliseum and Peter Anderson weekends also back it up. Low coastal roads can close for storm surge in tropical storms, as they did for Hurricane Isaias in October 2026.
  • Arrive Sunday, leave Thursday. Casino hotels charge noticeably more on Friday and Saturday nights, so a drive-in group can shape the trip around the cheap nights. See Biloxi golf weekend if you only have a weekend.

Once you arrive: getting around

Driving in has one clear advantage: you have your own car. The coast courses spread about 60 miles from Bay St. Louis to Pascagoula and sit 20 to 35 minutes inland at Saucier and Vancleave. I-10 runs 5 to 8 miles inland and is the fast way between courses. US 90 runs along the beach past every casino and is slow with lights. I-110 links I-10 to the Biloxi casino strip, and US 49 runs from Gulfport north to Saucier.

Parking at hotels

Parking terms vary. Harrah's Gulf Coast lists free self-parking on travel sites, and the Courtyard Gulfport Beachfront charged $5 a day as of October 2026. For a drive-in base by the interstate, the Hampton Inn & Suites D'Iberville sits at the I-10 / I-110 junction (exit 46). Compare bases in where to stay in Biloxi for golf.

Drive-in groups

The research calls the coast a classic drive-in golf market: Baton Rouge, New Orleans and Jackson are 2 to 3.5 hours away, and Birmingham, Atlanta and Memphis about 6 to 7. Car-pooling keeps costs down, and every car can carry the clubs. Our Biloxi buddies golf trip guide covers group tee times and rooms, and Biloxi golf trip cost puts numbers on a four-day trip.
